Bafang BBSHD luna charger and 52v battery $600

This kit works great. Unfortunately it’s time to thin the herd. This kit was sold before the current batch of bbshd’s and their firmware issues. PAS mode works, and throttle mode works. PAS haS four settings, but I only noticed the assist on 1-3. Luna display has a broken mount. I used a zip tie. Lu...

Re: Help me turn my touring bike into a car replacement

Just my $.02, but don’t give up on the dd front hub too soon. I am having a great time with mine, and I’ve never had an issue with traction (yet). Front wheel motor has a few advantages and I’m super glad I chose it. It is a 1500w 9C kit from Grin. It is simple, reliable, silent, and easy to remove ...

Re: Who here has/uses a Spoke Tension Meter?

I have built probably a few hundred wheels using the park tool. Totally agree with everything -dg posted, its limitation is that it needs quite a bit of exposed spoke. The “pinging” for tune/sound of each spoke is not a viable technique, imo. I am often using a super thin gauge butted spoke like a D...

Re: New "Lingbei MM28.250 torque sensor mid drive"

Sounds like a cool feature. Personally I’m only interested in the torque assist, but I can see how the TA could be nicely dialed in using the sliding scale you described.

Really looking forward to hearing about Lingbei’s responses and the next firmware batch.

Re: XC rim or DH rim for 1500w hub motor?

My vote would be DH all the way. You won’t really get the weight benefit of the lighter rim on your ebike, and xc rims usually have a narrower width as well. For my hub motor, I wanted as fat a tire as possible because of all the beneifits of more air volume. Sun rhyno lite xl is a great and cheap r...

Re: Bike prices..... WTF?

MadRhino, if the bike shops are making more profit on a sale than a car dealer does, then they're thieves as much as the manufacturers. 81forest, I never said that higher quality and R&D don't justify higher prices, but that has little to do with the price of bikes in the upper half of the price ra...

Re: Bike prices..... WTF?

It is difficult to argue that rims brakes are generally better than discs. They may be better suited to some specific scenarios but the reason why they are taking over is that they perform better in most situations. This seems to be based on a view often promoted in classical free market economics....

Re: Bike prices..... WTF?

If course, all the components are reponsible for the high cost of bikes. The manufacturers are pushing the development very far and the newest tech is always expansive.... That's not why they're so expensive. They're only so expensive because enough suckers are willing to pay that much since they h...

I know I could set up a rim braked bike to pass that Mount Washington test.
I don’t doubt that you could. Cheers Chalo, you are a tenacious fellow. :P

Re: Bike prices..... WTF?

Dude. 2003??? I don't think today's bicycle discs would hold up to the "Mount Washington test" described in the article better than any of the 2003 brakes did. Physics haven't changed, the brakes are about the same size and mass, and their materials are also the same. E-bikers have a comparable sit...

Why don't we agree to disagree since nobody has produced quantitative data? Quoting which length of skirt the manufacturers are selling this year or what professional downhill racers use isn't necessarily a reflection of what's best for most individuals. http://www.sudibe.de/articles/billondiscbrak...

Ever read Don Quixote? Because your arguments bear a striking resemblance. Hey, you're the one repeating the same assertion based on the fact that you believe it to be true, and for no other reason. I'm the one with a sample size of thousands and thousands of bikes whose brakes I have tuned persona...

Lever effort means nothing, it's basically arbitrary. Want less effort? Use a longer lever. There just isn’t a big enough “face—>palm” emoji for some of these comments. He has a point, though. With my rim brakes, I can keep pulling the lever harder and they keep braking harder. But when discs get h...

Re: Bike prices..... WTF?

Back to Chalo's original wide sweeping statement. "But I will say this-- the strongest rim brakes are stronger than the strongest disc brakes." But then you go on to say it's about cost. It would cost a normal human being without access to a fabrication shop the price of a whole set of XT discs (or...
