Re: Any advice on how to install the BBSHD with the shifting cable running along the bottom of the BB and the chainstay?

Having built around 10 BBS02 and BBSHD bikes, I agree that the biggest danger is the motor getting loose and banging against the down tube. One of my bikes came back with the shifter cable totally munched between the tube and the motor. I've added a spacer on a couple of builds, and always wire tied...

Re: Fast long-range cheap tourer[emoji2]

Thanks for the compliment, Dogman. I lurked here for 15 years and read all your posts before I built that bike. The top bar battery actually hides between my knees when I'm riding. When I ride on rail trails nobody hardly knows it's an ebike. If I'm going less than 40 miles I just snap it off and us...

Re: Fast long-range cheap tourer[emoji2]

My bike approximates what you're looking for- Range of 110km at 40 kph on a level with pedaling. It has a total of 31.4Ah at 52V in the two batteries, 17Ah in the bag and 14 in the SuperShark. 30A controller in the bbshd mid-drive. Cost about $1600 total, with the original bike bought second-hand. N...

Re: Newbie needs advice on ebike kit please.

BBSHD with a 52V battery is a great combination. It puts out around 1600 watts. I've got about 3000 miles on the one I ride. It was bought from EM3EV two years ago, and I get about 35-40 miles from a 17Ah triangle battery. The donor bike was a Giant Cypress hybrid with 700c wheels. Maximum speed on ...

Re: What type of plastic XT60 and EC5?

Just tested an XT90 I had lying around. It's definitely nylon. (My day job is Plastics Engineering) Melting point is around 475°F. ABS melts around 360°F. But you can still melt nylon with a soldering iron, which normally runs around 700.

Re: first electric bike build, lots of questions

I wouldn't categorically say that a mid-drive install is more difficult for a first build (provided you have the right tools to remove the crank). My first Bafang BBS02 install took 3 hours and my second one took 2 hours, as did my tenth one. All the electrics are plug-and-play so there's no crimpin...

Re: Best internal gear hub?

I've built several bikes with Nexus 3-speed and 8-speed IGHs using BBS02 (1450w) and BBSHD (1750w) mid-motors. I haven't had a hub fail yet in thousands of miles. Don't shift under load and they work fine. You can use single-speed chain and 1/8" sprockets which eliminates most drivetrain wear issues...

Re: First E-Bike - Doing DIY BBSHD - Critique my plan

The other thing common to scooters and mopeds is small diameter wheels. Large wheels on bicycles not only smooth out the ride by decreasing the contact angle of road imperfections, but they also contribute to stability. One of my motorcycles was a cruiser-style with 19" front rim and I could steer w...

Re: First E-Bike - Doing DIY BBSHD - Critique my plan

Note that the OP was only talking about going 24mph. But even with 1000 watts he's going to be going 10mph up hills so he'll have to make it up on the downhills. Non-powered road bikes are routinely doing 40 or even 50 on hills when the road is good. I'm talking about roads like this which I was on ...

Re: First E-Bike - Doing DIY BBSHD - Critique my plan

Some real-world experience with a very similar set-up to OP's proposal-- I'm very happy with a BBSHD on a hardtail name-brand alloy frame. I carry 1500 watt-hours and take weekly 50-70 mile rides on hilly rural roads with lots of potholes. I average about 18mph and peak at 45mph on downhills. The fr...

Re: EM3EV Bluetooth BMS App

I took my em3ev BMS out after it failed. There is a sticker on it that says: Power core BMS Possibly this is the manufacturer's website -- http://en.d-powercore.com/eproduct/list-47.html This information is also printed on the BMS: DXB30-1440BU-1002 50.4V/17.7AH BARCODE with this number below 182840...

Re: New em3ev battery not working.

I recently had the BMS fail in a brand new 52v em3ev battery. They sent a new one and it also failed within a week. The second replacement appears to work. So maybe they got a batch of faulty BMS boards? They will definitely replace it under warranty, and it's much cheaper and faster to air freight ...

Battery BMS failed for second time

I'm posting this to find out if anybody has had a similar experience, or any advice. I'm not in any way trying to disparage the reputable vendor (em3ev) who provided my kit and I'm sure will stand by their product and get my bike running again. This is the fairly generic kit I bought - my fourth bui...

Re: [Solved] BBS02, C965 without wattmeter ?! PAS max 3 ?

I recently got a C965 from Em3ev. It also doesn't show the wattmeter, but if I push the ON switch 3 times while riding it will show the instantaneous watts at the bottom of the screen for about 3 seconds.
