Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Thanks for your answer. Waiting for Frey’s answer. Nothing that urgent anymore since I managed to make the connector on the battery end to protrude more with my 24 mil. wrench. The bike mainly works but the threads on frame’s connector are bust. If you need to make your connectors protrude more you...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

I assume the MDR-C rotor at half the price of the MDR-P is not worth trying. It does have more rigidity than the storm HC but you seem to think the issue with the noise has more to do with the inconsistent rotor coverage, correct? i could not test the MDR-C so far. but yes and yes: according to the...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Thanks again for the info, very helpful. BTW, I found this article very interesting regarding the brake pad performance: https://theloamwolf.com/2020/04/24/review-magura-mt5-disc-brakes/ Another overview of the rotors and discussion of pads (apparently there is a sport version but doesn't seem avai...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

my Frey EX has of course MDR-P 220mm  and the blue pads. a nice combination, the MDR-Ps have an enormous usable braking area After a few email exchanges with FREY I'm not sure they understand there is a problem with the Tektro PM adapters. As you pointed out my pads are biting to high on my fr...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Took the bike out for a quick test and made no difference. Still have drum roll. One thing I noticed when inserting the spacers is the lower plate almost looks like it had been ground down. Not sure. It was shiny and didn't seem completely flat. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Z942_8PCbJh3QTmhytd...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Thanks for highlighting problem areas but my front brakes are fine (at least they don't make the drum roll noise). My issue is the rear brakes making noise. Not that I don't think you are correct regarding what is causing the noise. no problem. it can occur at front and/or rear brakes. but hey it i...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Hi, me, I replaced the rotors that solved the fundamental problem caused by the smaller "bridges" (smaller than the disc pad ) of the Storm HC rotor. Giving me the ability to use black or blue disc pads - it does not matter anymore in that case. but if you wanna keep your Storm HC rotors and save so...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

It was raining today and figured I would take a video clip of the noise. It's not usually this loud, the wetness amplifies the sound. At speed I don't hear the noise, mostly noticable as I approach a stop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj_YnlTUNU8 I took a few pictures of the front and rear rotor...

Re: Bafang ultra upgrade to 2500watt

Hi all, yep, we have time for DIY those days. :thumb: the original bafang controller is not bad - having 85v/120amps mosfets (derived from printing on mosfets). so it will also take some more watts than 2000 :D … unfortunately it is not a FOC controller… here the Neptune 20 output (original control...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

i think it is vice versa for extrem cold environments. I was talking about **charging**, if too cold will destroy the cells, instant scrap. Especially at too high a rate. Cannot rely on harmful internally generated heat, need to warm the cells from the outside. Bringing inside to charge is also an ...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

i think it is vice versa for extrem cold environments. modern cells can withstand cold environments very good - especially the LG MJ1. each cell gets warmer based on the chemical discharging process after a while. if cell is very cold it is even more stressed because the motor pulls its amps and the...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

i made the battery teardown of my original 48 volts 13s6p battery (LG MJ1 cells). i am disappointed about the original built. several strips had a little rust: rust.JPG this means this strip is not pure nickel but nickel plated steel. nickel plated steel is a horrible conductor and for that reason ...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Just curious. How many miles or kilometers did you get out of the battery? hard to say because i changed my display. but i would say around 2500-3000km and timespan was 2.5-3 years. this sounds not much but i am the uphill/downhill guy - i like the short punch and power. i never used my AM1000 for ...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Maybe the 52v case has been redesigned to be taller instead of wider??? But if you look closely in the unboxing video just a few posts ago you can see the extra width of the battery extending outboard of the frame on the left side. If my understanding is correct, I think Grace is saying all the bat...

Personally I prefer the 17.5AH battery as the bike is already heavy and the range on the 17.5 is already plenty - also the 21 will protrude - I even removed the handle from mine as it was irritating my knee as it also protrudes).
