Re: 52V battery now 20V - dead?

For a typical "48v" (58v full, so sometiems called 52v) LFP pack, there should be 16 total cells, so 16 monitored wires from the cells to the BMS, one for the positive end of each cell group. That's what I count on that connector, in total. If the red wire goes to a cell, yes - but I don'...

Re: 52V battery now 20V - dead?

Ha, I imagined there'd be A123 cells in there, or something of that nature. 20220516_162631.jpg The BMS has a row of wires out to the cells, and testing those I get a sequence from the 0 to ca. 48V, incrementing by ca 3V each connecting point. Starting from the pin that's towards the bottom here. 20...

Re: 52V battery now 20V - dead?

If the problem is so intermittent that it cant' be found by the typical "wire wiggle" tests, then best is to disconnect and examine every plug, one at a time, that could cause the symptoms you see. And those would be relatively few, I think? The problem initially, anyway, was system wide ...

52V battery now 20V - dead?

My LiFePO4 battery abruptly lost charge, on the road yesterday. When I got back it was 20V or so, and the charger won't light up and start charging. Dead? The long story: I've recently had connection problems, such that everything drops - CA3, throttle etc. Sometimes comes back by itself, or I may n...

Re: Terrain Control alternate to PAS/Torque control

There was a saying back in the day ... "I had this problem, and I used threads to solve it. Now I have two problems!" Python is still not able to run threads in parallel, I think? There's sort of an advantage to this limitation, that the potential for race conditions etc. is at least signi...

Re: Fully 3D Printed DIY electric car

I thought your load testing looked rather gentle. Maybe good enough - you don't need to pass EU motor vehicle collision standards - and it isn't like I really know anything about materials strength and static vs. dynamic loads.

Re: Fully 3D Printed DIY electric car

As you mention, that stuff is really unhealthful. I have some, for a plastic repair, but I used it outside only. I ordered it from a laboratory supply place. What kind of brush do you use there, I mean what are the bristles made of?

Re: Using regenerative breaking as home electric generator

Other questions that arise are, is regenerative breaking a simple 'on/off/ matter, or does regenerative breaking increase as you squeeze the break more? (Excuse me if this was already answered and I missed it.) I believe regeneration is more a function of the controller, than the motor. There are c...

Re: Helmet for glasses wearer

For more focused advice, you might add some explicit examples of what you want. This is a bicycle forum, so most readers know about bicycle helmets and there is such a thing as a full face bicycle helmet - that's what you want? In addition to defining "helmet", we may also miss the mark be...

Re: Terrain Control alternate to PAS/Torque control

It's what I was talking about, about 18 posts back, as a way to filter out incline noise. The incline event you care about, is one that's accompanied by a perceptible decrease in speed. The tricky part might be correlating with pedal input to tell the difference between an intentional reduction in s...

Re: Do you use an fairing or partial fairing on your ebike, emoped or BSM?

Well, this is a good point, but I think your bike is a bit of an overkill. Recumbents most certainly do have a considerable problem with low speed-stability, starting from a stop and climbing *in general*, at least those worthy of the name - but you do not need a moped-like power to overcome them. ...

I understand that among young people it's becoming cool now again to smoke cigarettes. It isn't a good idea to take the things people do as a guide for oneself, on the theory that they're based on sound reasoning and experience.

Re: Do you use an fairing or partial fairing on your ebike, emoped or BSM?

It is not a secret that the UCI banned Recumbent bikes in 1934 because they were too fast. I generally agree with the rest of what you had to say there, naturally, but whether the actual cause behind that was that they were too fast, or for other reasons (I wouldn't want to be responsible for putti...

Re: How do you feel about your state's moped laws?

We can see as plain as day that we can't expect every ebike rider to be considerate and responsible, but it's kind of the nature of bicycling that we have to adapt to conditions, and crippling the bike to constrain the fools will lose you some of the flexibility to adapt like that. Yet we have over...

Re: How do you feel about your state's moped laws?

Why would you think it would be a good idea for any 28 mph or 30 mph vehicle to be in a bike lane? I wouldn't likely want to be in a "protected" lane going 30mph - and in fact I don't ride 30 mph, anyway. But I guess I have a "30 mph vehicle", given that that I've seen it run up...

4. Reduced sightlines for viewing cross-traffic. I'm with you on every point, but just to add to this one, the cross traffic also has this problem. So drivers who want to turn onto your protected-bike-lane-equipped arterial, need to roll out into the bicycle lane, to see who's coming. The drivers o...

My favorite seat is less office chair and more lawn chair - the seat on my Ryan Vanguard, a sling between side rails and a front pivot. I don't recall any discomfort from it ever, where the office chair style on my Burley is not awful but a little harder to get along with. I don't expect it would wo...

Re: Do you use an fairing or partial fairing on your ebike, emoped or BSM?

It isn't in the same class as an LWB recumbent, at all. Whatever the exact angle of recumbency, a recumbent provides a seat back to lay back on. That's going to affect posture at least a little (as well as supporting pedaling leg force that's no longer offset by body weight as it would be on an upri...

Re: 2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

I place my bet on the H700 gears: they're for the human powered drive. Because of the consistent emphasis on how the motor shifts gears to suit cadence , and because of the single external gear cog provided. (Assume that's what "look at how it looks" refers to.) I see the "bicycle new...

If there's other data that could be factored in, for example that would show the drive slowing - the terrain handler could respond to that situation, and ignore inclines that are essentially spurious for one reason or another, i.e. have no effect.

Re: Do you use an fairing or partial fairing on your ebike, emoped or BSM?

I think the typical recumbent rider is older and likely suffering from some health problem that steers them towards a design which takes pressure off their back. Haven't we sort of looked at the demographics of recumbent riders as old white guys? Young people love the thrills and chills of sport an...

Re: Do you use an fairing or partial fairing on your ebike, emoped or BSM?

It is true that USS does not provide a convenient place to mount a simple Poly carbonate fairing, but for those willing to engineer a tilt-away fairing mounting solution, USS does make getting on and off of the bike far easier and less of a contortionists act. I've given some thought to it, but onl...
