Re: Electric Century - 100 mile ride on an Electric Bike

LOL, I still have some roadie left in me I guess. Being diplomatic, maybe there should be distinction between "tank range": distance you can go on a full charge or full tank of gas, and "daily range":the max distance you can cover a day of travel. Lots of people look at the tank range on electric ve...

Re: Electric Century - 100 mile ride on an Electric Bike

Thanks guys, I am glad you get it. One of the objections people have to the idea of using an eBike is limited range. Now that I think if it, that is true of electric cars and motorcycles, too. So I figured the best way to work on overcoming those objections is to do it, showing it can be done, showi...

Re: Electric Century - 100 mile ride on an Electric Bike

So I turned around and headed back to Balboa and the usually trusty outdoor quad outlet on a Gazebo there. The pet fair was still going and the police motorcycle was gone. But now the Gazebo was being used for presentations and a sound board was plugged into one of the outlets. That left 3 more outl...

Re: Electric Century - 100 miles ride on an Electric Bike

I use my Cycle Analyst and Garmin GPS to keep and eye on things as I ride. I don't have the speedo set up on the Cycle Analyst, by the way. Electric Century - 100 mile ride on an Electric Bike

Since putting together my Electric Ute http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=13834 I have been toying with the idea of a reaaally big one day ride. 100 miles, or a century ride as roadies call it. I don't know if anyone has done it and posted on it yet. I mean, Dr. Bass goes fast,...

Re: Kona Ute Conversion...in progress

Well, "beast" may not have been the best choice of words. I took a Mundo for a test ride at Interbike 2008. They had it set up with 2 coolers of beer on the back. It was quite inspiring, really. Once you were underway the bike was amazingly nimble in spite of the big, awkward, heavy load. If hauling...

Re: Kona Ute Conversion...in progress

I have ridden the Ute for a while now. This whole Ute vs Mundo comparison is natural, but the bikes are fairly different, given that they are longbikes to start with. The Mundo is a hauling beast. I have to agree with the manufacturer that you should stick with the 48 spoke rear wheel if you use the...

Re: Kona Ute Conversion...in progress

Thanks. The ride sounds great. Let me know when you schedule it. The stock BMC controller has a clever jumper for 36/48V. It should be good for the low 30mph range with 48V. Next week my 12g spokes arrive and I am building a 700c wheel with Big Apple 2.35 tires. Then I expect a boost in top speed of...

Re: Kona Ute Conversion...in progress

You can get the Mundo with a rear derailleur, but they don't offer it with a front derailleur for a wider range of gearing. You might be able to add that, but I am not sure about that, you should contact them. I am curious to hear what they say, let me know if you find out.

Re: Kona Ute Conversion...in progress

I did ride the Mundo at Interbike a year ago. It was fun, all of these cargo bikes are fun and you can't go wrong with any of them. These are differences I see. I an not calling them pros/cons. Whether or not you like any given difference is up to you. The Mundo has a low shelf on the rear racks and...

Kona Ute Conversion...in progress

I have wanted to make a longbike for a while. So now that I have access the the Kona Ute, I decided to go for it. The Ute is a long wheelbase cargo type bike. For 2010 it comes with front and rear disc brakes. It comes as a 700c bike, but my only motor sitting around was a 26" model. I am working on...

Re: 1000W BMC testing

Good point. The BMC controllers have 12 4110 fets, they should be able to do 50A. BMC will provide a resistor to put in line with the shunts to allow 35A peak. A little solder mod could bump the amp limit higher. BMC made it clear that even at 35A the controller is not warrantied, so at 50A you woul...

Re: 1000W BMC testing

One more data point. I had the V3 wired up to the big 18 FET infineon and batts capable of 72V 65A peak. The motor charged to 40mph strong at just partial throttle with a lot of head room left. But the big infineon kept throwing its thermal protection at that point, and I felt I was pushing the batt...

Re: 1000W BMC testing

I had similar results with the Kelly/V3 at high voltage. The Infineon 72V gave better results than the Kelly. My V2S with the 72V 65A infineon was good for a little over 40mph. I did a shootout with it vs the Clyte 5304 with the same controller. The Clyte edged it out slightly every which way, but o...

Changes to 18 FET Infineon Controllers

The next round of 18 FET Infineon controllers we are getting will have some changes to them, based on our requests and the requests of others using this big controller. We made some of the features of the controller easier to access at the expense of programmability. We got our sample in today, I th...

Re: Interbike 2009 Electric Bike stuff

Yes, my time capsule is most excellent. However, 2010 did look a lot like 2009, looks like it needs some fine tuning. Topic title updated, thanks. Complete bikes must conform to legal limits, in most states that is 20mph. If you want more than that, you gotta mod it or make it yourself as most do on...

Re: Interbike 2010 Electric Bike stuff

According the their website, those are 20 x 3.0 Kenda Kraze, they are listed in Kenda's discontinued section. In 20" diameter, they look even beefier the a 24 or 26" 3.0 tire, I think. A quick search shows other tires in that size, though, like Innova

Interbike 2009 Electric Bike stuff

While at Interbike this year I focused a little on the complete electric bike makers at the show. These are complete turnkey electric bikes. Re: JD's BMC V3 Build - in progress

I have found that with BMCs V2 and V3, 72V just does not get you much more than 48V which seems to be its sweet spot.

I will have to try the speed mode in the next week or two.
