Anyone familiar with the ryobi ry48ztr electric ztr?

Or any electric zero turn mower in general? I think this is a fascinating machine, and I'm interested in building something similar. I have an older ztr with worn out drive system and it would be awesome to rebuild it with electric drive and deck motors powered by a lithum pack (Chevy volt maybe). T...

Re: Sevcon gen4 with motenergy motor for a sawmill. Solid green no spin

Awesome project 👍. I can't offer much help with the sevcon, except maybe to contact frodus if he's still able to help out hobbyists on a non commercial basis. Otherwise, something like a golf cart controller might be a better match? Please update as you go, I think a battery powered sawmill is a rea...

Re: Cruiser Motorcycle conversation components

The problem with that for me was the max RPM that those ME motors would be running. I would need about a 1.4 gear ratio to achieve my desired highway speeds which is too low of a ratio for my tastes. Running them at 128v would give me an RPM of roughly 4400 which would allow for a gear ratio of abo...

Re: Cruiser Motorcycle conversation components

I've been thinking along the same lines you have. If you're committed to using the LG Chem modules then the Sevcon is out. 1 module is too low voltage, and 2s is too high. I sent a message to SamD to ask if the Mobipus 600a will work with a single 60v module. I'd like to use 3 of the LG chem blocks ...

Re: YZF600R Thundercat EV

Hi, awesome project! I was just wondering if the Mobipus controller is still in the pipeline? I'm debating between their 600A model or a Sevcon gen4 and wondering if you might have experience with both? Batteries are still a question mark for me too. I'm considering Chevy volt cells, or possibly a 3...

Re: Cruiser Motorcycle conversation components

Hub motors lock you into the one gear ratio too. I want to be able to change gearing with different sprockets. Just in case my calculations are wrong, or I decide I want a little more top speed at the expense of acceleration at some point down the line.

Re: LTO Lithium Titanium Oxide (Titanate) Battery 30S (now 32S)- Seeking the Ultimate Commuter Battery

Understandable. The positive aspects of LTO are very positive. I'm really tempted by those Yinlong 40ah cylindrical cells. They're about the size of a coke can, with threaded terminals, so building a custom pack will be relatively simple. You still get the massive C-rate and the incredibly long cycl...

Re: spiralling environmental cost, lithium batteries

There will have to be batteries other than lithium. And probably no dominant chemistry unless we can grow it. Any ideas for a corn battery? Isn't that essentially what the human metabolism system is? Why can't we copy that to power our machines? An elephant is a gigantic machine, and it runs on hay...

Re: LTO Lithium Titanium Oxide (Titanate) Battery 30S (now 32S)- Seeking the Ultimate Commuter Battery

I looked at those same bricks, but for a motorcycle conversion I don't feel like their energy-density is good enough considering their size/weight. I could fit at most 3 of them in my frame and that's only 3.3kwh. Volt / Leaf cells give you almost double that capacity in a similar size package.

Re: Leaked : New 26 and 65Ah LG cell datasheets for EV - LG E63 (Renault Zoe) and C1.5S

Why wouldn't LG want to offer new cells to hobbyists? They could sell them at twice the market price (per the post above) and we would pay it gladly. Probably even 3x ... Unfortunately, it's still unlikely to be worth their time. Hobbyists can also be a real PITA (and time consuming) to deal with i...

Beautiful work, I'm looking forward to the finished product. If you don't already have the Leaf cell modules, it's my understanding that the newer ones have a much higher C-rate.
Do you happen to have a source? I've been looking for 2017/2018 modules for a few weeks with no luck.

Thanks for bumping this one, I hadn't seen it before. Wow! That may be the most challenging donor bike candidate I've ever seen, lol. I didn't know the swingarm was hung from the engine on the XB, that's interesting. You made some unbelievable lemonade here though. That trellis frame is a work of ar...

I wonder why Farasis, LG, A123 are so loathe to sell directly to the public? Are you really expecting an answer? expecting? Probably not, but I'm genuinely curious. The going rate for used EV cells is something like $150 /kwH on ebay, with no guarantees of condition or capacity. Why would...

Re: Leaked : New 26 and 65Ah LG cell datasheets for EV - LG E63 (Renault Zoe) and C1.5S

Someone needs to start a group buy. Who do we know at LG? :D It's frustrating that we (hobbyists/enthusiasts) don't have access to a direct, reliable source of top quality pouch cells. I wonder why Farasis, LG, A123 are so loathe to sell directly to the public? Why do we have to scrimp and scavenge ...

Re: Welcome to Arc Vector electric motorcycles

I like the design, but I doubt they'll sell 10 of them much less 355. There have been several boutique electric motorcycle builders over the years and they're mostly (all?) out of business now. In a world where Zero sells similar performance at the $15-20k mark, pricing at $100k+ is not a viable str...

Sweet, I'm glad they worked well for you. Do you have a link to your EV? I'd like to see how much space these really take up. I agree, $25 is too much for the chopped wiring harness especially since we still won't know which wire is which. I'll do some digging on the Chrysler forums to see if anyone...

Great info here, thanks yewsuck. I'm about to pull the trigger on 4 of these bricks from TechDirect. Does anyone else have any feedback? Do we know the pinout on the BMS socket? I'd like to use the existing connections for cell-level monitoring.
