Re: Nm Torque Comparison to BBSHD

I'm actually really looking forward to factory ebikes with bricked controllers/bms/etc becoming available for cheap but even though I live in a MTB hotbed it's just not happening. I may eventually just buy a 3-4 year old EMTB to compliment my "acoustic" bike even though my original intent ...

Re: Nm Torque Comparison to BBSHD

Having a the capability to gain momentum without pedaling is the biggest difference between motorcycling and mountain biking. I say that as someone who has done a lot of the former but only recently gotten heavily into the latter. That difference really impacts trail design and difficulty which also...

Re: Nm Torque Comparison to BBSHD

Modern wheel sizes run smaller chainrings so the torque is only reduced at the wheel on the higher side of the cassette. I spend most of my day on my non-ebike 29er in 1:1 or higher reduction part of the cassette. I disagree with looking at raw numbers, look first at weight then at how the motor and...

Re: Nm Torque Comparison to BBSHD

The thing is that a BBSHD will never be as well integrated with the bike which counts for a lot more than the raw power numbers.
Also most "250w" EMTBs peak around 1000w every pedal stroke.

Re: 3DE - 3D Printed Carbon Wrapped e-bike frame

I'm anxiously waiting for continuous carbon filament printing capabilities to come to DIY priced printers. They are currently able to produce parts with greater strength to weight than aluminum, but start at I believe $5k minimum. Certainly in my lifespan I can foresee printing an entire bicycle fra...

Re: 3DE - 3D Printed Carbon Wrapped e-bike frame

Molds for the intersections and inflatable sections for the connecting areas. Ok I get it, but I have no idea how to make an inflatable mold  Sections of inner tubes or similar. HOWEVER on second thought I think it would be easier to just use off the shelf rectangular carbon tubes and then do ...

Re: Best Mid-drive Motors in 2021

CYC X1 Pro has a torque-sensing and has more power then a bafang. It doesn't seem to have a gear box. Wonder how it would fare uphill. Also I notice a chain drive, these kinds are noisy and chain derailing can happen as well. I had a similar setup in the past it was very painful. And serious off-ro...

You could do inflatable molds for the straight sections and save a bunch of print time.

Re: BBSHD 29er or 26 or 27.5 FS Mountain / Off Road Opinions Needed

There are better add on drives than the BBSHD coming available which might be worth waiting for. Specifically X1 Stealth and Lightest. Both of which could be mounted inside the correctly chosen frame and offer maximum ground clearance.

Re: Putting together a starter e-handcycle, know nothing about bikes

I'd look for a Sport-on XCR instead, possibly used now that many people who want to do more hardcore off-road are buying Jeet-trikes (which I think are more bike than you need).

Re: GNG / CYC X1 Pro 3000w

You could remove the motor sprag clutch and lock it/replace with a normal bushing. YES you'd be spinning the motor when you pedal but my experience with a much bigger motor is that it's not a huge deal and if you lose all power you just remove the motor chain. In return you get much better response ...

This seems like a bike that would do well with a small geared front hub motor instead.

5mi commute and looking to improve fitness, what you want is a bicycle (not an ebike). And definitely not a lightweight electric motorcycle with pedals.

If only the rear suspension had a decent design, that one wasn't good in 1985.

Re: Observed trials bike designing

I've said time and again that what a lightweight Emoto needs is a 2-speed, preferably a deep reduction and a direct gear.
I think a clutch and flywheel would be an asset however.

How does the bicycle sourced air suspension hold up?

If electrathon was available where I am I'd definitely be interested in it, hits all the criteria. Although I'd probably have to cut down some bodyweight

120# is pretty darn light for something with full rollover protection.

Wish these companies would hire someone who can design suspension rather than focusing on advertising. That linkage-less rear hasn't been a good idea since the 80s.

Oh I wouldn't try to actually USE a 3D printed version, besides I have a machine shop. If I could do 4 planets with two chains then the whole thing could be thinner. Offset holes in the planets should be easy to do. Their white paper says that durability is best if the bearings are in the carriers r...
