In my opinion, chain drive is the way to go. Its cheaper than a properly sized geared belt/HTD drive and the components are readily available if you need to replace sprockets and chain. I would try to design around standard shaft and bore sizes where possible so that you can easily replace component...

That's a beast..love it! What is the kw rating of the motor and how large of a swath does it clear and how deep have you cleared, if I may ask? Im working on a custom r/c vehicle for snow throwing, mowing, and just for fun and am in the concept/research phase of the power system that will be require...

Still looking for some help on motor/controller choices to power the mower deck and snowblower attachments as described in my initial post...maybe Ill ask in the motors area instead if I dont get any responses here. :P

It should be fun. The wheels are easily removed so that I can swap a track drive in if I decide to build one for more traction...or just cuz tracks are awesome. 8)

Hi thanks for the reply. I am using brushless trike motors with custom 2 stage roller chain reduction giving about 10:1 ratio. The brushless motors are low rpm high torque.
