Re: Courier ebike project advice

In the 50's and 60's the streets of New York had hundreds of push cart bikes, very big box up front could fit a couple of bodies at least.

I wonder why that traditional design hasn't been adapted for electric?

Re: Contactor question

The FET based units at such high power use cases are just not as reliable robust, long-lived

cheap Chinese versions even more unrealistically rated.

I would love to be proven wrong.

Re: Contactor question

Going much higher in DC voltage capacity rating cannot hurt. Certainly make sure to ignore the AC rating completely. But the ampacity maximum stated is what is particularly suspect. Testing a few hundred cycles to destruction would give the real answer but then many cheap-Chinese can't be relied upo...

Re: KONNWei 208 lead acid battery tester

A shunt based coulomb counting wattmeter does a decent job so long as you have a load you can adjust to keep Current Constant over the 20-hours test or whatever you choose as your standard. But a Dummy Load that does so automatically is much more precise. However, I would advise converting over from...

Re: Contactor question

Are you trying to go cheap, say too far under $100? Cheap Chinese need to be very deeply de-rated by half or more. I assume you want it to work under load more than just a few dozen cycles? Mechanical better than SS TE, Tyco, Potter & Brumfield, Gigavac, Kilovac, Schneider, ABB, Crydom, Crouzet ...

Re: What can a Grin controller + cycle analyst do that KT controllers + KT display can't do?

Perhaps since the educational value of the "Grin vs KT display" has pretty much run its course, of good reference value for others

Maybe worth opening a new thread on KT specific topics like these data comms protocols

Re: DIY Mini ebike battery configuration system

C-rate is always proportional to Ah So C-rate stays the same as you add more packs, paralleling or in serial. The wiring harness is fine long as you know what you're doing. Make sure packs you parallel are the same S-count **and** very close to same voltage before connecting. IMO the rig is dangerou...

Ah so I missed that.

100A battery maximum

120A phase maximum

Is that correct? At this point definitive as the vendor rating?

Re: FLIPSKY new 20s 100A tiny controller (vesc based)

OP states the unit can handle 7000W? My point is not that Flipsky "should not" give us at least a ballpark phase amps spec. But so far they haven't,and that is the reality we need to deal with. I am sure over time some range will be revealed by the tech-savvy early adopters along with all ...

Re: FLIPSKY new 20s 100A tiny controller (vesc based)

John Im not saying they gave Fake specs or so, they have been 100% transparent to all asking them. But for a newbie Reading 100amp max DC amp can lead to understand motor amps Can be set near 250amps. That is not of concern to me personally. It would be great for the actual phase amps limit to be s...

Re: What can a Grin controller + cycle analyst do that KT controllers + KT display can't do?

It might work with other controllers, but it does not appear that it will program controllers, since say KT uses a proprietary protocol. Yes, if there is a display used to program a given controller, it is proprietary, that is true for all controller brands. The CAv3 is not such a device. It has no...

Re: FLIPSKY new 20s 100A tiny controller (vesc based)

Just because that is the user imposed limit in a video, does not mean their power claim of 100 battery amps is any more "false" than other vendor ratings. We all know such ratings should not be approached IRL unless testing to destruction 80% is the closest IMO when reliability & longe...

Re: APL's Pressure Contact Battery box

I found pure copper swaging stops - like a little donut cylinder easily goes to a parallel smooth sided disc shape with a big pair of Knipex parallel jaw pliers, 16" version I think it was. Inserting fine stranded tinned copper boat cable first, say 10 AWG or down to 14 if that's all that's nee...

Re: What can a Grin controller + cycle analyst do that KT controllers + KT display can't do?

The CAv3 adds temperature protection throttle rollback.

It is a "meta" controller does not try to communicate with the "dumb" controller

justs adjust the throttle input.

Which of these are stonger carrying a big load up a long steep hill

IOW will shed heat the longest, assume a CAv3 will prevent damage

How about, Don't.

Get the charger for the volts and amps you need. Save up if you need to.

futzing around with converters is not a good use of time, unreliable, too frail a solution

Discharge the pack down to say 50-60% if you want to get much regen.

What is your reason for wanting regen?

Re: Greentime Controller 15 Fet Regen Stops working at top of charge

The whole point of regen is you need a depleted battery.

Otherwise it cannot accept high-current charge without getting damaged.

An alternative is to burn the energy off to braking resistance
