Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

Are you saying it's impossible to get a motor from one car to run off the battery from another? It isn't. It's been done many times. Grr...obviously not. No I'm saying it's much more analogous to switching to another fuel in an ICE as it pertains to performance. In one car yes, it can be a simple s...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

I've been saving this for last, but while we've been going back and forth for about a week(?) or so now, guess what Steinbauer just announced today? https://www.steinbauer.cc/media/slides/Tesla_EV_Slide_3_4BH1tnc.jpg https://cdn.motor1.com/images/mgl/vE4BQ/s1/steinbauer-develops-the-first-power-enh...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

The stock Sur-Ron electric dirt motorcycle was selling well as soon as it came out. Luna Cycles found a controller that would provide more amps to help acceleration, and they sold it as the Sur-Ron "X" as an upgrade. It's possible that the motor might run hotter, and run hotter more often, but...th...

Re: AVOID EUNORAU on Aliexpress

Who was it? Bruce? Kevin? Or? Thanks! I didn't ask at the time because I didn't think it could be confirmed anyways. His English seemed different from Kevin's so I'm pretty sure it wasn't him. The picture on Whatsapp is of a younger gentleman in his early 20's. I've texted him back about his name s...

Re: AVOID EUNORAU on Aliexpress

More follow up. I received a text message from Eunorau yesterday. The sender claims to be the aftersales manager for the company. He inquired about the dispute I had filed in February. I told him it was resolved. He asked if they could do anything to make up for the inconvenience and I told him it w...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

The reason being that the components that allow a Tesla to do 0-60 in under 3 seconds cost a lot of money. Just as the engine in a Lamborgini Huracan costs way more than the engine in a Nissan Altima. High performance parts cost a lot of money. So cost is a factor. So what performance part costs a ...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

So do people do it or do they not? The answer is yes, they do. It's not often, because again, they're expensive, but it still happens. You can look this up yourself. Type in "modified (x supercar)" into Google and you will get pictures, videos, parts for sale, etc. It's a niche market, but it exist...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

You're taking things too literally. Okay, let's reword that then. Tuners will always try to improve the performance of their cars. Better? No, because I said it's likely EV's will come tuned, and you said but people will push it further because that's what tuners do. But they don't actually do that...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

Who was talking about NOS? You said tuners would do anything to run faster. That's just the movies. If it were true everyone would be running NOS. Tuners don't want to kill their cars. The factory can offer performance tuning on an ap and the idea that this won't be enough because tuners will do an...

Re: Bafang BBHD 48v 1000w: Controller dead?

Hello I connected the sensor and no LED lights on now. Could I be doing something wrong? Just to clarify, you mean the LED light on the sensor, or the display? I have a feeling you mean the sensor because that's surely the problem you've described. If the display powers on and the red sensor LED on...

"The Lakeview Generating Station supplied power to the province of Ontario from 1962 to 2005. It generated more than 215 billion kWh of electricity in its 43 years of operation." . Keep in mind that they have demolished 4.000 MW of generating capacity. And in it's place now stands 44MW name plate c...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

Actually I do. You don't seem to understand that the difference between the two is what reduces the incidence of premature failure of the part. You seem to think the difference is untapped performance potential that can be unlocked in software settings that will have no negative consequences. *sigh...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

You obviously don't understand the "tuning game", then. If it can be made faster people will do it. Nope. You watch too many movies. Hardly anyone runs NOS. You're nitpicking now. The Chiron is obviously an extremely expensive limited production car. But there is an aftermarket for the Ferrari 458,...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

And I am talking about the engineering that happens BEFORE the car gets assembled. That doesn't happen in an assembly plant. Despite what happens in movies, the car isn't engineered as it's going through assembly. True, it tends to be pretty rare to have in house design at an assembly plant. Featur...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

What do you not get about the fact that product managers optimize things other than performance, like price point, reliability, style, warranty service risks and crashworthiness? You seem to think that design involves a bunch of engineers sitting around with no other goals than "make this thing go ...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

The only EVs that do 0-60 in under 3 seconds are all ridiculously expensive. And once again, not all EVs will be able to 0-60 in under 3 seconds in the future . Then people won't tune them. You don't seem to understand the tuning game. Not every car gets tuned for a reason. And even if they did, th...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

Well the vast majority of cars people modify aren't $60,000. Most of the cars people modify are a few thousand bucks and are at least a few years old. Think 350zs and Civics. Yes, some people will buy the new cars and instantly get the tuned, but most don't. In 15 years it's not going to cost someo...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

This explains why you seemed to struggle to understand why tuning a vehicle may be acceptable to an individual user but not to a manufacturer responsible for thousands or millions of vehicles. You seem to think that if a shaft is designed to withstand 1000Nm without breaking then no matter how many...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

How so? I've said this numerous times. If you blow up a $6000 ATV screwing around it doesn't mean anything. You blow up a $60 000 car on the road and the consequences could easily cost you millions of dollars in terms of liability, lost wages, insurance etc. I also put forth that the simplicity or ...

Re: Rear hub or Mid-drive (should I just flip a coin?)

The other thing I'll say about the Island is this: you are in the land of extremely high quality, extremely cheap full suspension bikes. Don't put the effort into a dead end chassis. +1 Lot of plans to hit Whistler never manifest. There's a good variety of downhill/fs bikes that would make great eb...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

The point of a FoS is to ensure reliability. Nope. SAFETY, it's in the name. Your reasoning seems to go like this: 1) This hoist is rated to lift a maximum of 10 tonnes 2) But it has a Factor of Safety of 5:1 3) So I should occasionally be able to lift 15 tonnes 4) But if it can do it once i...

Re: Rear hub or Mid-drive (should I just flip a coin?)

If I was still living in Victoria I think I'd prefer a mid drive. Some of the hills are a little steep, and it can be wet at times. It seems to be easier to waterproof a mid drive. I had to redo all the gaskets on my Bafang to get it properly sealed but every since I haven't had a problem. Either wa...

Re: How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

This is the crux of the disagreement and I'm sorry but you're wrong. Coping with the stress of ludicrous mode will have been baked into the fundamental design. Well you don't know automotive engineering. Most engine components are designed with a factor of safety between 5 and 8. The only exception...
