Re: Best Mid-drive Motors in 2021

So a couple of weeks turn into a couple of months. Is it "soon" yet? I'll keep you guys posted here for news, we're making quick progress with the film work (marketing), and other things that need to be checked off before product reveal... It's been a very exciting couple of weeks for the ...

Re: EV charging prices in Europe increase 500%

This is a little basic and brutal but I agree that is indeed where we are headed... maybe in a generation or two. Hard to tell which man-made "natural" disaster will get us first or if we will even more stupidly preempt even that with another real war or three, perhaps caused by the coming...

Re: EV charging prices in Europe increase 500%

It is a side effect of our imperfect under regulated capitalistic system. Works well in many ways but not for long term vision and progress and certainly not for a coherent energy plan. It has come, unfortunately, to mostly be about how to maximize profits in the moment. Is it any surprise that petr...

Re: real car companies are finally coming for Tesla

Hey, I am all aboard the future of EVs. If I was going to replace my mom's Mazda CX-5 it almost surely would be an EV. Never leaves town and only drives short distances. It would be ideal. I am not ready for one myself because there are still just too many limitations. And when I do buy one I will i...

Re: real car companies are finally coming for Tesla

I just visited family in FL and got into it again with my brother who is a walking talking Fox News sound bite machine. LOL. He also worships Elon Musk almost as much as he does a certain orange idiot. Of course my bro knows absolutely nothing about how EVs work... and besides he could never afford ...

Re: EV charging prices in Europe increase 500%

I don't understand. If power can't be pushed back to the grid how can you use the grid for storage? Are you saying they would somehow record the power you feed to the other 3 houses and credit you with that amount? Last time I talked to CPS our power provider, about a Solar hook up. I was told that ...

Re: Is there a "best" cheapo ebike build kit?

Not my original idea, but it works great. IIRC I read about similar in something called MTB Magazine... I sorta remember what those are but the memory is fading. One cheap solution for this is to take an old pair of MTB tires and drive 3/8" sheet metal screws through the tread blocks from the i...

Re: Is there a "best" cheapo ebike build kit?

One cheap solution for this is to take an old pair of MTB tires and drive 3/8" sheet metal screws through the tread blocks from the inside, alternating side to side. Then use duct tape to cover the heads. I did this to a set maybe 20 years ago (I still have them in my parts cabinet!) and rode t...

I saw the video. But it doesn't answer the question of why we need this or what benefits it offers over the old working freewheel??

Re: GNG / CYC X1 Pro 3000w

Anyone else get an email from CYC pitching their "freewheel 2.0"? Not sure what benefits it is supposed to confer. They linked an install video but no mention of why one would even want to spend $ on this?

Re: CYC X1 Stealth (NEW)

I have a problem with that delay on pickup... makes timing an effort over an obstacle tricky. Maybe I'll get used to it... or not. Yup, would say about a third of a turn, which doesn't bother me on the pick up, but the over run is a bit annoying and something we'd like to dial out. The brake lever s...

Re: CYC X1 Stealth (NEW)

Do you find that the Stealth has a slight lag on the torque sensor? My X1 Pro Gen 2 does and I find it to be annoying. Just about 1/3 of a second or so (estimating) both on and off as I add pressure or remove pressure from the pedals. Adding pedal pressure it takes that time for power to appear, and...

Re: CYC X1 Stealth (NEW)

That's where I have the shark pack mount on my Stumpy... held on with rivnuts. I also add some velcro straps to help secure it. But I still don't trust it for serious MTB trail use. Duct tape sure will hold it, though. As for pace, yes. On trails with my X1 Pro level 1 or 2 only. On the road the sky...

Re: CYC X1 Stealth (NEW)

Looks sweet! Where and how are you going to mount a battery on that frame?? I have similar problem on my old Stumpjumper. I tried it under the downtube with some rivnuts and wasn't totally happy with that. I also have another cable that I can switch to a battery in my backpack. My next plan is to us...

Not stupid, that will tell you if your cooling mods are effective or not. Although once you have confirmed that you don't really need it for much of anything IMO.

Re: TSDz2 (first time buyer)

I believe Bafang are somewhat better with heat, but they don't have torque sensor, only dumb PAS. Pick your poison. The cooling mods work very well to protect the TSDZ2 from overheating. Here in the US you can even buy them with the mods installed from one vendor. I understand, same problem with baf...

Re: TSDz2 (first time buyer)

With a stock motor there is no answer except that "it depends" on how long you ride and how hard you push the motor... and even a bit (but not much) on the ambient temperatures. Without cooling mods these motors just accumulate heat as you ride and won't really cool down significantly unti...

Re: TSDz2 (first time buyer)

18 amps definitely will overheat. Riding with any sustained significant power will really heat it up. Read this thread: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=102046 Thank you for your feedback ! I see that I need a 52v 13ah... nothing smaler... If I`m limit the output to 18amps ...

Re: TSDz2 (first time buyer)

The temp sensor is fine for what it is, but the power cutback is not adequate to keep temperatures low enough if you will be climbing long hills at 105kg. You will need hardware cooling. These motors are really bad at shedding heat without them. As for range... it literally can be anything depending...

Re: TSDz2 (first time buyer)

My TSDZ2 with 860 and OSF has been fine. If you intend to run it at high speeds on the flat and/or long climbs then hardware cooling mods are mandatory. There are some threads here on that. The throttle is pretty limited with this motor so ditching it for the temp sensor is the way to go and just ri...
