Re: suitable controller for Hub 3000W

Regarding the "CONTINUOUS" power you are in the wrong ballpark altogether. typically the rule is p(cont)=p(max)/2 So if you set it up 72V @ 40A you will have 2880W maximum, 1440W continuous. Someone with more knowledge should be able to elaborate on that. ESCs and VESCs are often rated for 200A cont...

Re: dynamo on a bike

You are both thinking of a nuclear reactor. There is actually something called a nuclear battery, where you catch the beta-rays and use them. I think they did it on the Voyagers?

You definitely should not brake the laws of the universe. The Imperator and his Apprentice will not be happy about this…

Not understanding or not being able to understand is not a crime. It doesn't make you less acceptable as a human being. There are a lot of things I am unable to comprehend. How can there be people who learn more than one foreign language? How can stainless steel not be magnetic when it is mainly iro...

Re: under down tube battery mount

I think we had this some time back :es: There were two main concerns: - ground clearance and clearance of the front wheel. - water. These cases are designed the other way around. So using them upside down could (not "will"!!!) make them flooding in rain or other fluids. I will try to find the infos ...

Wait, No, Don't!

If she only wants a little help for a few hundreds of meters uphill basically any motor shall do. She doesn't look heavy and she won't brake speed records. Why not just stay legal? A q100 or any other hub in an adequate winding shall get her up there.

Re: Is it ok to charge a hot battery after a long ride at 5 amps?

Yes I know, it is middle of winter. basically a February of the northern hemisphere. We get anything between -20°C and +20°C in February. Even simultaneously in Germany. When I was in NZ as a teenager they were warning because of the hole in the Ozon layer.

But whatever. Not the point here. Sorry…

Re: Hub motor industry dying?

That never stopped us (humans) of using inefficient technology. I think there was a G5 PowerMac with liquid cooling, because the processor were highly inefficient. Heatsinks, Active Cooling, … there will be a way. Ever heard of heatpipes? Should be doable for geared hubs. DDs are said to have less t...

I'm sorry but you still didn't get the point. No-one gets pulled over for riding an illegal vehicle. You can ride as fast as you want - No-one cares. If you get yourself in a collision and you are on an illegal vehicle you can be financially ruined for the rest of your life and you can even go to ja...

Re: Hub motor industry dying?

Let's assume the figures are correct and we have a typical middrive: 3 stages, 3% loss each: 97% x 97% x 97% = 91.2% Say you can have your motor operating at at least 80% due to gearing. You have 73% of overall efficiency. This is a very conservative calculation, I guess in reality you lose less. Un...

I don't believe neither Hubs nor Middrives are going anywhere in the near future. BionX and goswissdrive died of too high a price tag. Neodrives will follow very, very shortly. Hello E-S, after I abandoned my "250W Tow Truck" for the moment ( https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=99529 ) I am going to build a heavy but reliable commuter. Look at SQ Lab. They have saddles with a step between the seat and the nose. So you have the nose for control but your most private parts have a little more wriggly freedom.

Re: Is it realistic to expect using y DIY ebike all year round in Switzerland?

The ebike kit is not the problem registering a high power ebike, but everything else. You need a technical test and proof for the frame, the brakes, the handlebars, the pedals, … It is easy to use ebike approved "everything" - but not the frame. To get your frame approved can be hideously difficult ...

The DM24 is not a 24" rim. it is available in 26" (559mm) and I think in 28" (622mm), too. The 24 refers to the inner width of 24mm.

I would like to add the Andra rims by Ryde to the list of robust rims. The Andra40 is rated for 180kg.
