Re: Series Connected FLA's not Charging Uniformally
Sorry for the late update - way too much on my plate now:( . Amber, Batteries are connected and charged serially with only a single 50v connection off the end batteries. I would much prefer a li-ion bank, but that purchase needs to wait until next summer. Battery & controller temperature is 75f. SG ...

Series Connected FLA's not Charging Uniformally
I have 10 100w PV's charging four, series connected 12v, 114Ah batteries. I'm using a Victron 150/35 controller set at 48v. The batteries are less than 4 months old and ALL purchased NEW at the same time (two even have sequential serial #'s). Problem is.... the center two batteries (#2 and #3) are c...

Re: Cute Q100H Autopsy & Modify 2017
I'm not using ATF. And second,... I installed axle seals. As expected, I don't have leakage. Maybe I missed it up thread, but what are you using instead of ATF? And are the axle seals really neccesary? If so, can you show a picture or a part number? I'm really interested in your approach and result...

Re: Cute Q100H Autopsy & Modify 2017
I wouldn't do that. I added ATF to a Q100 several years ago and without dedicated axle seals, it came right out and rendered my disc brake useless. I had to take the whole thing apart to clean out the mess. First... I'm not using ATF. And second,... I installed axle seals. As expected, I don't have...

Re: Cute Q100H Autopsy & Modify 2017
Uploaded image #7 - LH housing mod. Please explain this a bit more. Are the holes intended for air circulation, or do you plan an oil fill? Is the stator not accessible to the oil without the holes? Thanks. Oil (partial) fill. The stator windings are mostly enclosed, so the holes provide reasonably...

Re: Xiongda YTW-06 mini hub motor
How long was the prototype in beta? And how much distructive testiing was done before public release? It definitely has appeal, but I'm not one to eagerly reach for the plastic,.. absent of many miles of end-user data. I patienty waited over 8 years before I opted for a Q100H - and considering it's ...

BTW... Idaho bill HB 508 (ebike related) failed to clear the transportation committee. So we're 'off-the-hook' for another year.

Re: Steel no longer a steal.
Problem here, is the salvage yards have been restricting access to scrap because of liability issues. I'm disappointed but understand, given the potential of machinery (cranes specifically) loading and unloading, or sorting piles.

Steel no longer a steal.
As my primary go-to metal for fast and cost effective builds (when completed weight isn't a major concern), I was stunned to see a 25% increase on todays steel purchase. "Yup... Everything but some flat stock", he told me. Adding, "US mills are lagging demand". I had antisipated a mild ripple effect...

Re: portable air compressors for tires
This thread has lingered with me since its inception - I genuinely needed a DC portable compressor, and managed to score a decent one at a local pawn. He had several, but I chose a vintage Coleman "Inflate-all 150". The pump dims are 4.8" x 5" x 3". Unlike the eBay example, mine is NOS and I departe...

Re: Electric chopper trike build journal
With a trike, you want just about as little trail as you can get away with-- Yup. The pedicabs I design and build have relatively steep head angle with unusually long fork offset. This minimizes trail, downhill steering bias, and wheel flop. I commonly refer to this as "neutral" steer. Because all ...

Re: Electric chopper trike build journal
Basically keep the weight (batteries, controller, seat/rider) low and between the two rear wheels. To avoid unnecessary surprises at speed, the trike's laden weight distribution should be in the neighborhood of 33f/66r (placing equal weight on all tire contact patches). So if mounting the batteries...

Re: Electric chopper trike build journal
Some ES members here seem convinced that the 3-wheeled (non tilting) vehicles are inherently unsafe. Fact is, when the 'trike' builder employs a few basic design principles, the end results can be, and often is,... just as safe and dynamically effective as a 4-wheeler. But if you ignore the well est...

Re: Electric chopper trike build journal
Have you determined CoM yet? A common issue when duplicating a bike's steering geometry, is that it typically places the CoM too far forward, and too high.

While I give'em kodos... there's a catch (isn't there always)... The $90 is in the form of a gift card. Oh well... it makes a decent discount on that black, semi-compact Makita impact i was drooling over.

Re: Home Depot Solar Panels $1/watt (approx) Free Shipping
Went to retrive my 600W's PV order and HD informed me they sadly hadn't arrived yet (1 day past expected delivery date) claimed lost somewhere. To make it right, they offered me 15% off on a replacement re-order. Let's see... That's $90, so $15 off per panel - or $0.85/Watt. Cool!... I can wait 'not...

Re: Cute Q100H Autopsy & Modify 2017
While my Q100H/328 is still in pieces, I'm tempted to carefully isolate a single stator pole and measure its resistance. Since I know the winding wire gauge (24 AWG), this should give me a point of reference. Unfortunately, to be useful, the same needs to be performed on different ratio hubs - which...

Re: Cute Q100H Autopsy & Modify 2017
Perhaps another clue...
Both of my recently purchased Q100H/328 hubs are etched "AAD3616A". I assume the numbers to indicate 36 Volts, and 16 Amps. But zro-1's hub indicates BBD3620A. If my interpretation is correct, why the different amperage markings/ratings?

Re: Cute Q100H Autopsy & Modify 2017
... Here's where things get really strange. What this tells me is that either: The wheel RPM (201 vs 260 vs 328) is determined by the motor winding and not by the gear ratio, or I received a 328 RPM motor, even though I ordered a 260 RPM There's convincing evidence of gear changes - but little-to-n...

Re: Cute Q100H Autopsy & Modify 2017
Yeah, that's the Q100 not the Q100H. Which is what I was getting at before where the rear-drive Q100 H is only 201 or 260 RPM, and the rear-drive Q100 is only 201 or 328 RPM. After examining many images and comparing them to my Q100H, I likely wouldn't purchase ANY Q100... 328 or otherwise. I don't...
