Re: Thoughts on these Turnigy Lipos (60v 20ah pack)

RE flat tires statement, I got the crappy cheap bms sucks statement proved to me real good. P2110070.JPG I did not trust my lipo, though, and being a human bms has worked flawlessly for me for 10 years with my lipo. However, anything human is prone to fail. The difference is I did not trust my human...

Re: E-BikeKit.com Front Hub Motor Bearing Replacement?

You don't pull the cover off. You push the whole core of the motor out, including the cover on the other side. That removes one cover. undo all the cover bolts both sides, then hook the arms on the spoke flange. this will then push the core out the other side. Then with the core and the other cover ...

Re: Motor Choice Advice for Motorcycle Class eBike

If you got money and time, do it just for the fun of the project. But if you just want to get to town, buy a 250 or larger motorcycle for now, and put the e moto on the back burner till you have a ton of cash. You'll spend 5 thou on the battery alone bro. Sell that frame to somebody who will restore...

Re: 1 big battery or 2 small ones?????

Based on my own experience with 72v, you intend to haul ass a lot. So the solution with 8p cells beats the one with 6p. And even 8p may still whack those cells with a lot more discharge rate than they like. Also, just carrying the damn thing. Two motorcycle saddlebags slung as low as you can may be ...

Re: Motor Choice Advice for Motorcycle Class eBike

Couldn't agree more, for highway ride, you want a real motorcycle. If the cost is a problem, look into scooters. Yeah, I know, you look gay. But they ride great, and are way more comfortable than a crotch rocket or a v twin type bike. I priced an e motorcycle, and a good car came up cheaper. Easy to...

Re: lipos 3s

Actually, there might be a difference, 3s vs 4s. I have run a few of 2s packs, making a 14s pack with two 6s and one 2s. Twice in a row, the 2s packs hold less real world capacity than the cells in the 6s packs. They really seem to me, to put a bit better testing cells into the popular 6s packs. I'd...

Re: Best geared hub motor for slow climbing

Best geared hub motor for slow climbing would be one in a 10 inch wheel. supposing you can find one in a mag wheel that small. Overload a geared motor, of ANY wind, ( 300 total pounds weight or more) and ride it slow up 7% grade, and you will smoke that motor down in about 3 miles. It CAN do short c...

Re: Looking for guidance building a bike for commuting

You are on the right track in general. E bike commute can be a money saver, but if you are still licensed, a smaller motorcycle can be much cheaper per mile. I personally made e bike commuting pay, getting rid of $20,000 in charge card debt, by avoiding replacing the car for four years. Barely drivi...

Re: small front hub motor with disc brakes can I use rear motor?

As AW said, measure that front fork. Many fat tire bikes have the same front fork width as a regular bike rear. 135 mm Yours might be that size, or it could be 100mm standard front, or it could be something non standard. If its not 135 or 100 mm, you will be limited to changing the front fork. ( to ...

Re: what do i need ? a better controller ?

Buy a controller if it makes you happy, but I still think your battery is squealing like a pig. Find out how much sag you have before you buy a controller. You can parallel another same voltage battery to stiffen it up, if sag is your problem now. If you are buying more battery first, then you buy t...

Well, you never said you wanted super plush ride. Just not too harsh. IMO, not too harsh you get with a zoom pogo stick from a dumpster bike. For sure, the air shock is easier to experiment with, finding the perfect ride. I just said spring, since you can still adjust rebound on them easy, and they ...

Re: Modifying a DD hub motor.

To melt one, just overload it with weight. 300 pound dude, or a trailer, and ride up a steep hill. But a 200 pound guy + bike motor battery that weighs 100 pounds or less, will make it up long hills up to 10% grades without overheating. Most highway and state roads are 8% or less. City streets, and ...

Re: what do i need ? a better controller ?

My best guess is your battery is getting killed by your controller already. A slow death, but its squealing like a pig I bet. Get a real voltmeter display of some kind. If your battery voltage sags 8 volts or more when you take off from the stop sign, your motor and controller are killing the batter...

Re: E-BikeKit.com Front Hub Motor Bearing Replacement?

A good mechanics machine shop would be able to pull out the old bearing and press in the new in ten min. Worth the cost, if one is nearby. A local bearing shop, or the internet, can also supply the right bearing to replace on your other motor. Odd your new bearings are failing, Ive put many many tho...

Re: volting up and gearing down

It would help a LOT, to know what motor you are talking about. But assuming you mean a typical cheap hubmotor with 28 mm stator, then go ahead and run it in 20" wheel. It helps, but its not really all that much less gear. Not enough to make it turn too fast with your adult weight loading it down. It...

Re: Modifying a DD hub motor.

Most likely you have a 27 or 28 mm stator. If you don't have 35 mm or more from spoke flange to spoke flange, then its the typical, 500w rated dd motor commonly called 9 continent type, but cheaper laminations as said above. Still, the cheapo motor is not a terrible, inefficient motor at all. They r...

Re: See a lot of inexpensive brushless hub motors nowadays (hallomotor etc) are these any good?

Ok hardest problem first. Matching a controller to the motor. Get the right controller and it will save you a lot of trouble. The right controller will have self learning, or self study wires. Often these controllers will have one color of big power wires. When you hook up the controller, match up c...

My most famous person encounter was Tanya Tucker. In a very crowded bar, I had to rub against her ass to get another beer. But though I touched her ass, I never met her dammit. Re: Old Ebike, New Hub wont fit

unfortunately, your e bike frame is not standard bike width, 135 mm. But your new motor is. It needs a special d shape hole spacer washer to get the cogs to clear, or maybe a narrower freewheel. single speed might be the easier option to find. In any case, you might have to spread that frame too far...

Re: Motor controller and battery output

First off, you may be confusing amps, and amp hours. But for sure, the bigger your battery in amp hours, the less amps each cell has to put out, to supply your controller with 20 amps of current flowing. In addition, your pack may have a bms which limits amps to 40, or 60, or whatever, in case you h...

Air for the win, when riding up a rock staircase on a desert singletrack. But for the road, the coil will be a lot longer lasting, imo. No need to get into shock pumps to keep riding for one. In fact, for road you might not need much more than the cheapo pogo stick fork, unless you are loading up, c...

Yeah, many possibilities. The first and most likely, is you bought a controller locked to 30 amps. One way to fix it if it is that, is a tiny blob on the shunt. look u...

Sounds to me like you need two hub motors, if you do go that way.

Sand plus weight, sounds like a 30 min meltdown to me.
