Re: Critique my Build/Plan

It will be fun, I won't deny that!

I wasn't talking fun budget, I was talking transportation budget. Fun budget can afford a six pack of 9 speed chains.

Re: Stealth & quick-ish e-bike for short commute, opinions

Rear hub on a 7 speed beach cruiser with a built in rear rack. hide the motor under pannier bags. Throw oil on it and ride it on the dirt, and then don't wash it. Or paint it with a brush. It won't look worth cutting the lock on it. 48v 1000w kit will go 25 mph cruise the whole ride. One battery of ...

Because the charger trickles, no. Unless it does have a reliable bms.

Good excuse to buy a 50w RC charger IMO, like a b6

Re: Heavy duty wheels for 26" MTB with BBSHD

Might look at some wheels intended for cargo bikes. Not the lightest racing wheel you find in the mtbs stuff, but not steel heavy. Generally the nipples will have the eyelets. Something similar to the alex, if you cant find them.

Re: Pain in the neck and back, wrong frame size?

True enough, a back sweeping bar will be a lot better than a bmx bar. But I find riding with them tilted far enough up to clear my knees uncomfortable too. This tilt will be needed if hes on a kid size bike, like a Walmart mtb. Once he gets a frame the size he needs, then cruiser bars would be even ...

Re the corner gone bad, No way you could have seen that car,, but obviously you need to stay in your lane. Just part of the learning curve, if you never rode motorcycles before. Your e bike is not the same as when you pedaled. You will find yourself cornering faster than you used to, as if you were ...

The photo was fine, good clear pic.

I, and the others here just needed it pointed out where you soldered. It could be different on other controllers of course. I just had a hard time spotting it at first.

Re: cell imbalance in new hobby king lipo pack

It is a bad sign, which is why you want to check it out with a cycle or two to get it fully full and balanced, then see how the cell behaves. There will be inbalance of some degree, that shows when the pack is fully empty, at 3.5v or lower. At 3/6v and above, it should do better. BTW,, I call anythi...

Re: "Hot rod" ebike on the cheap

You wanna win a race, you need a light battery that does not sag. Hobby king for those, and get the higher discharge rate stuff, not the cheap 20c. And yeah, couple outings, and they will be practice battery, if you want the win. You also need to up the voltage, which makes the motor spin faster. I ...

Re: 48 Volt Rear Hub Build

Bolt to the existing hole should be fine. At 1000w, just one should be enough. Two better of course. Get that hole made just slightly small, then file out by hand to a nice tight fit. If your axle is 10mm flat by 14 mm round, deepen the dropout notch 2 mm. so the axle center is still in the center w...

Re: Pain in the neck and back, wrong frame size?

BMX type handlebars is what you need. This means you also will have to lengthen all your cables in most cases. To fit them, you will need a shim on the stem. This can be cut from a tin can. It won't hurt steering. It will also help with numb hands, if you are getting any of that. Worth it, as an urb...

Re: "Hot rod" ebike on the cheap

Cheap hot rod bike does exist. Cheap 500w rated hub motor, the kind in the 48v 1000w kit. Then RC lipo for batteries. 72v 40 amps controller, and viola, a 40 mph bike. can cost about a thou, depending on what you spend on chargers. Your plan sounds cheap, and fun to build. But the lead will make it ...

Re: Melting wires

I like to bet both problems existed. a bad crimp caused the nut to heat, loosening it. Go with the big fat bullet connectors IMO. Because you likely are not an expert crimper. If you were, I'd suggest something like a 45 amps Anderson, but with 6 sets of connectors. Each crimp then carrying half the...

Nice work. I find the easiest way to make battery boxes is a combination of wood and aluminum panel. I was making external boxes though, so for me it was a simple wood box, made from a strong poplar wood half inch thick. then the aluminum plate sides just screw on. other materials work for sides too...

Re: 6 or 7 or 8 gear, maximun

FWIW, I have a street bike that when run on the right voltage battery has similar power to Markz. Most of the time, I prefer to run 48v, and limit wattage to around 1500w. 90% of the time I ride it slow, at least relative to its top speed of 32 mph. I like to ride 18mph, because with the bikes geari...

Re: 2 Controlles one motor

FWIW, doesn't the controller heat a lot less at WOT, because it runs most efficient when the fets are not switching? Its true, accelerating with the big motor on a smaller controller will heat it, but it should stand it if you run more or less wide open all the time. 8) At the very least, give it fu...

Re: cell imbalance in new hobby king lipo pack

I'd have replied the same if I was HK. You are asking for a refund way premature IMO. Charge them, and see if they are balanced then. Only if one shows severe symptoms will you get relief. Puffed all to hell, demonstrated severe low capacity, or self discharging itself. If you run them, and one is h...

Re: 7P20S- 3 cells not charging to max

At 4.16v, you don't have any bad cells in the battery. 3 of your groups are only showing the normal wear early, at worst. They might just be out of balance too, so try balancing more, manually, or just the ride around the block and charge again method. Charge full, wait 30 min, then try to recharge ...

Ok, I think maybe I misunderstood the actual problem. runs smooth, but not at one speed. It runs fast, then slows, then runs fast. I thought you meant it just pulls crazy high amps. What else do you have on it? A CA? Is it a speed limiter, or amps limiter kicking in? Or is your battery tired, and it...

I live in the desert too, and run controllers hard when climbing hills. ( southern rockies) Just mount it where it gets good cooling, and if really worried, add some more heat sink to it.

If really thrashing it, carry a spray bottle to cool both controller and motor.

7 on most generic hub motors, ( not the big motors, the common size ones) unless you install a special freewheel. If the bike is an 8 speed, just use a 7 speed gear, and adjust the derailleur to hit the 7 gears with the stops. ( 8 speed will be too wide) If your bike is 9 speed, you can get the 9 sp...
