Re: How many of you really use the wiki?

Recreating the wiki as a new subforum of threads seems like a plausible idea. Think also a wordpress site might also work, but forum posts are most likely among the most efficient manifestations of the data. And users can add addendums in further posts, unlike in a wordpress post or article, where u...

Re: Why we had big downtime 04/22/18 and intermittent downtime since the upgrade

Yep, the proper response to a memory leaking program is fixing the memory leak. As you found out, throwing more memory at it just simply prolongs the time till memory exhaustion. So if it's the database... think a latest stable "working" version would work? Pretty sure the best database systems are ...

Can't live without a credit card when traveling.
Oh, I've had to live without one when traveling because Citibank won't honor mine even when I've used that very card in that part of the country many times.
Debit cards work fine. But, you do have to have savings.

Think I'm going to make it a standard policy all flammable goods get put in the detached steel shed when I get things fully set up. To make the shed waterproof, I put a tarp over it. Still need to stake it down, it blows off, lol.

Think it was Ben Franklin who said "a penny saved is a penny earned". When I was a kid I never understood what the heck he meant. Somewhere along the line I figured it out. When you're running a business, you VERY QUICKLY figure out what ben meant, lol. income = revenue - expenses The more you mini...

Bread and water is made out to be 'dungeon food' but I'd take a bet that good quality bread and water would be all needed for healthy sustenance. . . . Post-meal blood pressure testing will tell you quickly if your assertion is likely true. I see possible issues with bread alone, but if you are sep...

Hint: it's not meat, it's not vegetables, it's the kind of fats you eat and their balance. A vegan, vegetarian, omnivore, and pure carnivore can all fall into this imbalance. Re: (Was) Honda Civic Hybrid goes 100,000 miles with no prob

120,000miles over 8 years -> 15,000 miles a year. That's not too bad, I thought a really long commute would rack up at least 30,000 miles a year. Did you start using the BART? (For me, hypothetically, the commute would be 35 miles one way, so 70 miles/day * 5 days a week * 50 weeks / year = 17,500 m...

estranged people more sharply from each other. That's what I don't like about cars. They tend to keep people from socializing with random people, both by removing the possibility of walking across them in real life, and also by tending to produce great distances between people. It's interesting the...

This happened once to me, rejecting an order after it was made. At UW seattle downtown, a subway didn't make it clear they didn't accept credit/debit, and so I found out after my order was made, and not only was my order $9 as opposed to $5 across the road because it was a special "convenient" subwa...

Okay, time to interject here. There's a minimum amount of energy needed to climb a hill. Then there's the minimum amount of energy to push away air molecules at a given speed. Energy to climb hill = The sum of both of those. So, yes, speed matters, but there's going to be a minimum amount of energy ...

I thought guys like acceleration because it's fun. The fact that girls also like acceleration (Many girls like roller coasters, right?), tells me it has little to do with gonads. Now, I'm sure some might think of Teslas as status symbols. But, I get the sense the average status symbol seeker isn't e...

Develop some skills in diagnosing cars is a pretty good one. It's how I scored my used vehicles, which has been running almost perfectly since I bought it (I did have to replace the fuel filter and a tire, but definitely not a major engine issue.). In particular, you might want to develop some skill...

No problem with plants eating CO2, the problem is that when there is too much CO2 in the air, the oceans are eating it too. Acidification of the oceans is the major environment threat. I think that depends a lot on the local road infrastructure. In my area, it's 70 mph roads in all directions, so there isn't much applicability for e-bikes other than quick jaunts to this tiny town. And, in that regard, people use all sorts of vehicles to accomplish that, from dirtbikes to ATVs to g...
