Re: la Nina rears her ugly head

Dry down here. Thinking about watering the yard. Promises of rain, sleet and a chance of snow. Has now been cold enought for all the vegetation to go into winter mode. The ground does need moisture in it.

Re: APL's Pressure Contact Battery box

From cars to ebikes most of the connections are pressure contacts. All connections are not welded or soldiered. Corrosion has and will be a problem. Don't need to rethink it all just need to look at what has been used and is being used. Autos after installing a battery then sprayed an inhibitor on t...

Sounds like you have enough power for now. Riding a trike never worry about lifting the front wheels. Worry about keeping the axel locked down. may some day make some clamping dropouts of some type. Would like to make a new rear fork that could be bolted on. Have rear suspension so a swap out is doa...

Don't know if you know? or have the CA3! The digital Digital Aux Input for CA 3.1 can be plugged into the same wiring allows it to work in parallel with an analog potentiometer or 3 position switch for independent adjustment of a 2nd limit setting or presets. Currently using the digital for PAS and ...

Don't remember now, thought the 6 speed was the same width as a 7 speed? Talking about a cassette not a freewheel. It's been years now, did get both of Grin's TQ arms on. Do remember filing down washers. Even grooved the washer where the cable comes out of the axel to gain a mm. Did not touch the nu...

Can get over 3 kw from my 40A Grinfineon @ 72V which is 84V hot off the charger. Most of my riding is between 74V to 82V. Keep it limited to 2 kw with plenty of torque.

Looks like my 26" with a leafmotor. Have not had any issues, just keep the spokes tight and stress relieve them. The small spokes (what I use) 13/14 spam strong will handle the bends.

Re: Phaserunner Vs. 40A Grinfineon (10T Gmac)

Don't remember where this was learned, (hope my mind did not make it up) phase amps is 120a. The Phaserunner is just a different class of controller. Have two 40a Grinfineon and have been happy with them. Still would consider a Phaserunner as an upgrade to them. You can get a little more take off to...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

From all the testing it's proven that the leafmotor can do 2000w continuous. For me this easily keeps my top speed and pulls the steepest hills in my area around 20 mph. For my trike could get by with 1200w max but would slow down more on the hills. Does anyone know what the leafmotor can do with FF...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Need to think about the wiring first. 2000w continuous is a lot for a bike/trike. Think of the speeds with low drag and how big a battery you will need to keep that up for long.

And when you say Grins for the front, you mean All-Axle? or? Sorry, yes that is what i'm referring to. The reasons, all axel motor is a front motor and can be ran on the left or right side with the single sided axel. A pair of them make crazy power. One is just below the leaf. Think they are 28mm v...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Everyone will tell you that you can get all the power you need from a single motor and that is true. The factors that make more than one motor something to think about; want to keep the motor width or weight limited. To me dual motors double the heat dissipation and you can more than double the tota...

Re: My first ebike build: custom-built KMX-based electric velomobile

The draw back is trikes don't handle well at these speeds. Luke and dogmandan raced bikes, i'm sure you and read up on lukes and ask dogmandan about it. Seems like fun but not for me i'm getting to old and don't heal as fast anymore.

A fast velo on a race track would be something to think about.

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Sorry, did not mean to over look the bikes. Toecutter and I ride trikes and was mostly replying to him. The issue with trikes is trying to keep the weight where it needs to be like 60% + on the front wheels and dual front motors are a good way to go. You can get higher power motors but lose the abil...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

The leafmotor starts doing worse below 20" wheel. Think the 18" is the limit then it all goes south.

To be able to peddle a dual motor setup on the front wheels is a great way to get power and speed or two grins and a rear leafmotor.

any controller and batter as long as it's 48-52V with a small wheel.
Yes, small wheel low turn count uses more power!

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

With most motors other than the leafmotor, windings are limited. This is why people try to limit the voltage or go to a small wheel. Now everyone wants a 20" wheel. Same with the big high amp controllers. This is why the leafmotor stands out and is popular. You can configure it from one extreme...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

If you study the charts close you will see that with the same setup the torque moves from upper rpm to lower rpm range as you increase the turn count. This does not make the motor more powerful or does it lose power you just move it in the rpm range where you want or need it. Have been looking to ke...

Looks like it has all been said again. Sorta of like the winding discussion. It rises up again now and again. People new to the idea need to embed the facts. Unless you are building a race bike then you need the find your average riding speed and keep the motor spinning at least 50% of its max speed...

If you have room to store it! one wheel build will pay for it. Don't build many wheels myself, just been using a bike frame.
