Re: How to improve my friction drive situation?

It's definitely not the optimal solution yet, but I wanted to see how a 13mm smaller motor would work out. Without creating a new mount system, I wanted to to see my limitations. Right now, the CB seat post mount is almost as far back as it can go without hitting the chainring. For whatever distance...

Re: How to improve my friction drive situation?

I scrapped the 3d print idea and went back to just bolting the commuter booster (CB) mount to the kickstand plate. To get clearance from an annoying lip on the plate, I used a destroyed 3d print as a spacer. The soft plastic is definitely not a forever solution. I didn't realize how much smaller the...

I went ahead and ordered Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 - 5045-500KV. $45 after shipping is not too bad.

50mm recommendations for friction drive?

I found a Dahon Boardwalk S1 for $40 and was hoping to put a "Commuter Booster" friction drive kit on it. Unfortunately, the used package I bought has a 63mm motor that will hit the chain. I'm thinking 50mm is my only choice. So, does anyone have any 50mm recommendations? This bike will just be for ...

Re: Mounting Commuter Booster suggestions

What gauge steel will not bend under the weight of a 2 pound motor? I am looking to buy a steel "angle", where one side would get bolted to the kickstand hole, and the bent portion is where one half of the CB mount would be mounted. I also need to figure out how to prevent it from bouncing. Maybe I ...

ran across a Kickstarter today, https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/83 ... ote-propul

He reached his goal, which didn't seem that high, so hopefully we'll see more from him.

Re: Puzzled by battery numbers

Today was my first ride since balancing the packs. Before I left, one side was 4.19V, and the other was 4.14V. Upon arriving, both sides are pretty much at 3.87V. I'll bring them both up to 4V before going home and test again.

Re: Puzzled by battery numbers

The cells that were at 4.18 have a range of mOhm: 014, 011, 09, 11, 11, 10. after sitting, these are all around 4.19
The other cells that were lower are: 09, 05, 07, 05, 06, 06. after sitting, these are all around 4.14, 4.15V

Re: Puzzled by battery numbers

since the blocks are definitely unbalanced, and I was only measuring the lower one, it's very likely that I did overcharge the other block. I've probably ridden like that for a while. I checked the "resistance" of the cells, and the values for the overcharged block are definitely higher, probably fr...

Puzzled by battery numbers

I have a pack of 18650cells, which is made up of 2 6s blocks with a fuse inbetween. Each block has balance lead that I hook up to a CellLog. One wire broke off, so that rendered one of the balance leads useless, but I didn't think it mattered for the most part. I bulk charge the 12s pack and stop wh...

Re: How to improve my friction drive situation?

Due to the chunkiness of the CB clamp mount, I'm limited in positions since I have to contend with the chainring. I don't want to mess around with how the shaft and everything is mounted in the righthand mount. I might, however, consider making a thinner left side mount since that doesn't involve me...

Re: How to improve my friction drive situation?

I started a thread earlier when I was looking for mounting advice, https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=89691. You'll see lots of photos there. I bought a nut/bolt and was thinking of just using a giant washer to span the size of the clamp's hole. I tabled that for a quickee test of...

Re: How to improve my friction drive situation?

fechter wrote:Can you flip the dowel clamp over so the pivot is in front of the dowel?
The clamp is pretty chunky. If I flipped it, it would hit the chainring on the other side, plus I don't think it'd clear the seat tube.

Re: How to improve my friction drive situation?

Thanks everyone for the responses so far. Using the CB clamp mount, I have had to get creative on this folding bike. My dowel is screwed in at an angle away from center since a vertical dowel didn't have enough space for installation. If I lower the clamp mount 1 cm will increase the pivot room a li...

How to improve my friction drive situation?

My used commuter booster is set up, but it's not working reliably. I’ve adjusted it so that the motor is 1mm from the wheel. The motor does engage the wheel, but it won’t stay engaged. I’m looking for advice to improving my situation. 1) I have the CB clamped on a dowel screwed into the kickstand pl...

OK, I was a dullard and had the thin brainbox to ESC connectors reversed, and apparently one of the throttle pins wires pulled out of the heatshrink.

Re: Commuter Booster - <1kg Friction Drive

I bought a used CB with BrainBox, and I just got around to installing it on my folding bike. Everything turned on the first time, and I could cycle thru all the BB settings. I was fiddling around with clicking the button, holding down the button, etc and at one point my motor started spinning. I'm n...

commuter booster + brainbox - no beeps

I just set up my Commuter Booster + Brainbox tonight. The first time I plugged everything in, I heard the friendly beeps that I was expecting. I fiddled with things on the box, and the motor eventually started spinning when I hit the tiny throttle button. It was sort of unexpected how fast the motor...

Re: molex mini-lock 5 wire?

awesome, it does look like jst-xh. with my eyesight and even with a magnifying glass 3rd hand thing, soldering the wire to the pin was rough. I think crimping with a new pin is the way to go.

Thanks!

Re: molex mini-lock 5 wire?

The plug isn't quite the same. I saw a video that had a demo with a plug with pins like yours. They were able to release the pins by pulling up on the small piece of plastic for each pin. I was able to get mine by pushing onto the pin which I think more or less helped release them. Since each pin is...
