The modified Open firmware will allow you to have any voltage battery. Its all in the setup menus. You can control max power, current, top speed, battery size(voltage and cells). The higher voltage, the less current to achieve the same power. Current creates heat, which can destroy the motor if not controlled Id suggest that you get the modified firmware pre installed from one of the listed merchants on the GitHub. Ive limited my wife's bike to 10 Amps max current. Which equates to 500W peak. She never gets anywhere that .
