Let's see, the drone carries five pounds, 10 miles in 30 minutes?

Re: R.I.P. le Béte

Yeah, it's still worth every penny for love of the biking. The real reason I ebike, I get to bike like when I was young and strong again. It's really all just about love of the bike. . . . Rejoice in Pedal There's something about riding a bike that connects us to our environment, in real time, the ...

Re: R.I.P. le Béte

Also the added exercise should make you live longer too. Repeat, it's Popular I think that's our favourite canard. For a devout automobilist an ebike may provide some additional exercise but for a cyclist it's a step toward the dark side. Personally, it has led to deterioration of my former fitness...

Re: R.I.P. le Béte

Added up and broken down like that, it's shocking. My batteries too seem to be getting near the end of their useful life. There's likely to be new batteries in the new year. And soon a new controller. It was assumed the halls were faulty. The quickest cure was a sensorless controller. Deeper investi...

Re: R.I.P. le Béte

Receipts in Piles Along with cleaning and reassembling the bike this week, I've pulled out receipts dating back to Sept 2008 and totaled up some of this e-bike stuff. It's hard to recall regular bike maintenance ever costing this much. Justin's shop has gotten the lion's share of the local retailers...

Revealing Incipient Problems Turd polishing is always more fun than expected! A different fork might soon be necessary. Part of this refurbishment is getting the bike to track straight again. Took the forks in to correct the tip alignment. Noticed cracked paint on the braze. Marked it with a Sharpie...

Re: R.I.P. le Béte

Good going! I think you will be happier with the 3540 than you would have been with the 3548 on your big bike. It's easier to overheat the 3548 and they both have the same low speed torque. Remedied Inane Plan You're right. I realised my mistake about five in the morning and changed my order ASAP. ...

Bummer zoot katz.... new bearings, welded dropouts, better spoke config etc sounds like a good plan, cheapest also.was a great welding shop on the 3500 block of mcdonald but that was in 92?mark. The bullet has been bitten. Today ordered a new Crystalyte HS3540, laced to a 26" rim, for bolting into a n...

Re: New project with a special bike

Put it in a museum. I'm pretty sure there's not a lot of them. Shaft drives fell out of favour when the roller chain got invented. They've resurfaced from time to time, kinda like the row-bike or step-bike but without the giggle factor. Steal something steel and keep it real. Starting with a more ma...

A manly hack would just scrap those pussy nooks, weld in Doc's Luke Proof torque plates and turn up the amps.

Rebuild It Perfect Really, it's preferred. by taking the cracked dropout to real welder and see if he can repair it for you. i bet most welders could make it twice as strong as original for half the money it cost new. that was a nice rig. you need a front suspension fork anyway. this is a good excu...

it's always easier to retire a bike that served faithfully... RIP .. if 50v and 40 amps on paved roads serve you well, consider an eZee / BMC / MAC at similar power levels, it will weigh 20 lbs less and be just as peppy... and fit regular dropouts without so much fuss. i bet you can cut the spokes ...

I believe you let me test ride this bike out front at the Vancouver art museum at an Ebike show Justin hosted. Shame to see it cracked, but WOW! What an amazing success story to get 21,000miles! 21,377 kilometers . The poor little monster motor has never tasted more than 54 volts or 40 amps. It's a...

Re: R.I.P. le Béte

Thats a real shame about Le Béte. That's been an inspiring bike. Ever thought about going with one of Justin's Stokemonkey designed longbikes? The Stokemonkey is a good system but not for me. IMO, aesthetically it's always been a clusterfuk. The Edgerunner design caught my attention a few years ago...

Re: R.I.P. le Béte

I'd try welding it back together with an oxy/acetylene torch and maybe steel plates sandwiching either side of the break. Lace up a new rear wheel and keep on going. I don't think there's enough room to fit any extra metal in there. Perhaps a new proprietary drop out could be obtained or a facsimil...

Thanks for your vote of confidence, dogman. Getting smacked is a daily possibility and these idiots are always coming up with new ways to get us. Yes, the Free Radial is cromo. http://endless-sphere.com/forums/download/file.php?id=123374 Just guessing those are 13ga or even 12ga spokes. Because this failure is due to too much tension for the rim. Yep The eyeleted stock rim was crudely drilled for the 12 ga. spokes. It was poorly tensioned and the 5300 Crystalite hubs are ...

Vancouver's city fleet has been testing some that I've seen on the street. Just the other day a saw a new Cars2Go Smart Car advertising that it's an electric vehicle.
