Re: Why not comfort bikes?

I would go with suspension is not as needed depending on the rider and ability to navigate around potholes and ability to stand and flex both knees and elbows over potholes. The faster you go, the harder it is to play 'human suspension' and 'pothole/uneven surface watcher'. This really takes a lot ...

Re: Everything you need to know to buy an electric bike

*eyetwitch* I liked most of the article, but I did cringe a couple of times while reading it. They tell people to ignore manufacturer rated power levels and instead suggest that the best way to determine how much power you'll actually feel is to figure out battery watt hours to determine range. They...

Re: Dozens of Bicycles Recovered!

I picture a spring loaded dropper style seatpost that collapses when sat on and allows a 6" pointy spike to pass through the perineum cutout. Probably keyed so the spike could be removed and post locked before riding, but I'm just spitballing here... Might as well add a forward facing camera too, be...

Re: Dozens of Bicycles Recovered!

This was from my neck of the woods not long ago: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/stolen-bicycles-worth-100k-recovered-by-vancouver-police-1.5279584 That was just a storage locker ...and the cops weren't even looking for them. They stumbled upon them. The proverbial tip of the iceberg...

Re: Blown 2 KT controllers in a row

I'd go through the wiring with a fine tooth comb. Especially the phase and hall wires. Sounds like an intermittent short to me, so metering alone might not necessarily show it. Most common place is probably chaffing where the wires enter the motor but it could be anywhere, up to and including inside...

Re: Scooter fire at my nieces house last night.

Losing a loved one is a brutal experience as it is. Unexpectedly losing multiple loved ones and everything you own in one fell swoop is a trauma that pains me to even imagine. I can barely fathom trying to cope with that.

Scooter fire at my nieces house last night.

We missed a phone call from my niece at around 1:30 this am. I just now learned why she called. She had just returned from being away for the weekend to find the fire department at the house where she was renting a room. Apparently an electric scooter which was being stored and presumably charged in...

Re: Comfortable long range frame? EEB?

I'd strongly consider a recumbent trike, but if you're stuck on an upright then a well built eeb style bike should have a large enough battery box to handle the huge pack you're going to need to meet your goals. You'll probably spend as much on the battery as you will on the rest of the bike though,...

Re: High power ebike means none of the rules apply to me

Every time I read a an article about someone receiving a ticket on an ebike or scooter around here I find there is a growing consensus among commenters that we should be required to have licenses, registration, insurance, and be completely barred from multi use paths and bike lanes. In fact a surpri...

Re: Some tips on commuting to work by bicycle or E-bike

Also, fenders. Preferably full fenders if your bike can handle them.

Consider using lighting as well, even in the daytime, because every little bit helps. More time on the road means more opportunity for things to go badly, so anything that helps viability is probably a good idea.

6'4' and between 255 and 265 depending on the time of day, with a gut that makes me reminiscent of the late great Mustard Tiger Philip Collins. Re: Do you run across overly competitive/aggressive cyclists?

I run across them, but at 2-3 or more times their speed, so I wouldn't even know it. It's been a couple of years, but I did have a cyclist at an LBS ask if I the electric bike was mine. I replied yes, and he then asked "Isn't that cheating?". I said, no of course not. I race against cars and motorc...

Re: 43 mph unicycle...who's faster?

I've actually seen a number of people riding powered unicycles in my travels this year, but most are moving at a brisk walking pace at best. Can't say as I blame them. With no suspension and nothing to hang onto you'd better bring your A-game when it comes to staying on your feet, self balancing or ...

Vancouver and surrounding areas. Primarily Vancouver when it comes to this type of behaviour, but I've seen it in surrounding cities as well to some degree. Though cyclist density increases the closer to Van you get, so you're going to have more cyclist interaction there than surrounding areas. It's...

Re: Brazen attempt at thievery!

A good lock is expensive. I paid $70'ish cdn $ for my Kryptonite NYC off of Amazon, from Amazon as the seller. It was "slightly" used but was new, could call it open box. Abus sells good padlocks. Need one with a metal jacket around the shackle, and invest in a solid chain. Even the chains are expe...

Re: Brazen attempt at thievery!

After my housefire, I was sorting stuff in my backyard, when some dude walks into the yard and starts taking things, and when I told him to GTFO he actually tried to ask if I wanted help.... The police never did catch him, but they did know who he was by my description (I was too upset to deal with...

Do you run across overly competitive/aggressive cyclists?

There is a huge cycling community here in BC and I come across lots of other cyclists in my travels, not that usually we stop to chat or anything. Most of these interactions are unremarkable, though I usually find smiling faces looking back. There have however been a handful of times where I've cros...

Re: Pedals coring out mounts

Well, I guess it is standing on them that's killing them, though just not whilst pedaling.

Crank and pedal upgrade sound like money well spent. I'm sure you'll be able to get it to a place of comfort and reliability.

Re: Pedals coring out mounts

It may be your riding style or bike setup. AFAIK on most pedal bikes your weight should ideally be spread across the pedals, saddle and bars while riding, unless you're standing to pedal. I suspect that standing to pedal is when this is happening, unless you're just standing on the pedals at all tim...

Sorry, that statement was presuming they were the same motor, same wind, same voltage. With different winds, I couldn't say, but your results should be interesting. It does beg the question, to me at least, of how losing 170% of your torque will effect the performance. ie: Will you run out of road b...

He was probably either guessing or lying. It sounded fast to me, so I googled and it highlighted this snippet: "With 9c type 9x7 motor. Doing the math, 1500w from 72v 20 amps simply would not be enough watts to hit 40 mph. It gets harder and harder to get 5 mph more speed the faster you go. 0-25 mph...

Brazen attempt at thievery!

I live in a second story apartment with a sizable balcony in a garbage city. Spoke with my neighbor in the apartment next to mine earlier and apparently around 3AM he woke up and didn't really know why. A short time later he saw flashlights shining around at his windows. He goes to investigate and f...
