Re: Bafang Ultra Discussion

If you are comparing a 1600w Ultra to a Bosch/Brose/Shimano, the difference is HUGE. The major brand 250/500w motors are for helping your pedaling, while you can let 1600w do it for you & go 30+ mph without pedaling. It really depends on what type of riding & where you ride. If you like to commute a...

63 lbs is possible.
Yeah but probably not with a bike that's safe to "free ride" with 15kw.
They'll probably break as often as the <12lb. carbon-fiber road bikes that you hear about all the time

Re: Torp 11kW / 29kg mid drive electric free rider prototype

63 lbs is possible. An Exess HP-E180 w/Bafang Ultra, carbon fiber frame, bicycle wheels/tires, 10lb. battery weighs about 58 lbs. Considering the Ultra is about 15 lbs and if the Torp motor isn't a lot more, add heavier rims/tires & aluminum frame, it might be possible. I hope this isn't a year or m...

Re: Bafang crank arms are for riders of height 5'11" - where can we get smaller cranks?

The study you listed refers to non-assisted road bikes. This topic has been discussed ad nauseam for years & to my knowledge hasn't been definitively proven. Regardless, ebikes don't need as long cranks as pedal bikes & if you are using your's off-road, the shorter arms (I use 155 & I'm also 5'11") ...

Joe, did you upgrade to manitou fork and If so, why did you choose it?

No, I bought a frameset.....frame, shock & motor. I put on a 180mm Lyrik fork.

Re: EXESS HP-E180 Bafang Ultra Max Enduro bike

The Exess is a premium bike whose price should be judged compared to similar hi-end, hi-powered, boutique bikes like M1, Stealth, Optibike, Haibike, Gryp, Sem Adventure, Ubco, Eve, Boxxbike & others over 250w. When you also consider most major brand "legal" bikes have models more expensive than this...

Re: EXESS HP-E180 Bafang Ultra Max Enduro bike

This is great news to potential US buyers. I bought one direct from Germany last February & can't speak highly enough about the bike & the company. I have put >1000 (off-road) miles on mine & can't wipe the grin off my face every time I ride it. The exess  power is intoxicating. Jurgen@ Exess ...

Re: RevX bike

I don't think the shipping from Europe to the US is that expensive w/o a battery..$ 400-$600 I'd guess.
You could probably have a battery made in China or US if Rev-X would be willing to supply the battery box.

Re: Bafang ultra, how strong is it.Does it overheat?

Andy123 I have currently the Exess controller with their stock settings for ECO 1-5 & Sport 1-5. I have seen no need to reprogram other than the override condition you mentioned. On the Exess, I am only aware of the override under certain conditions, such as at the top of a hill. Whether Exess repro...

Re: Bafang ultra, how strong is it.Does it overheat?

Yes...it is 104, I should have checked before typing. Here is my set-up with spacing. The center of the chainring is 11mm off the back of the Christini spider. This puts the chain on line with the center of the cogset.

Re: Bafang ultra, how strong is it.Does it overheat?

Andy123

Check your chainline with the Christini spider, it's designed for fatbikes & you have to mount your chainring on the inside with about 5mm (or so) of spacers to get the correct chainline.

Btw, its a 110bcd.

Re: Bafang ultra, how strong is it.Does it overheat?

Yes, there was a dead spot on the throttle on the original motor/controller but I'm not sure if it's the fault of the cheap throttle or the controller. I'll see if the new controller makes any difference. I have a Domino throttle I'd like to use but I'm not sure if it's compatible. If anyone knows w...

Re: Bafang ultra, how strong is it.Does it overheat?

Exess HP-E180....love it. I can't think of ANYTHING I have ever owned that has given me more smiles/$$. I had a Bosch Performance CX powered bike before I got the Exess, so I have a basis of comparison. The difference in performance is like the difference between a pedal bike & an ebike. When I ride...

In the meantime, I suggest you contact UPS/FedEx to see if the freight to/from Germany + the cost of the conversion is worth the effort since you ar...

Re: Bafang ultra, how strong is it.Does it overheat?

Cvin The controller that came with the bike is NOT their latest controller. I am buying a new motor from Exess with the new controller & should be getting it in a few weeks. My trails are pretty open, so I never ride in low assist modes; plus I like to go fast! The Exess has ECO 1-5 & Sport 1-5. I p...

Re: Bafang ultra, how strong is it.Does it overheat?

Using an Exess for commuting seems like major overkill, why pay for a cf 180mm travel bike & lock-out the suspension ? As far as low cadence...riding off-road I'm often at low cadences with no issues. I understand why they'd make a 250w Ultra, but this is also major overkill. I think the smaller Baf...

Re: Bafang ultra, how strong is it.Does it overheat?

I have an Exess HP-E180 52v with one & I'm very happy after a year of riding. Compared to a Bosch Gen3..there is none. MUCH stronger & definitly NOT lazy. I use the bike exclusively off-road on relatively flat terrain, so I can't comment on how it would perform in a commuter application or off-road ...

For low volume production you could vacuum form it in ABS plastic using a much cheaper mold. You could also make it in 2 or 3 layers of carbon fiber so it could be flexible.

Per an email from Jurgen today, the motor WILL have to be sent back to Exess for the new controller installation (or buy a motor/controller). :(
