Re: Shamrock, 25 foot sailboat electric conversion with an ebike hub motor

After going through the whole thread I'm getting more and more excited about my catamaran conversion. The extruded aluminium mounting is such e brilliant way to put things together. I'll be at my boat next week to do the measurements, but I'm fairly confident it'll be perfect for my boat, even if it...

Re: Electric liveaboard catamaran project

Before you finally commit ... Have you sailed a Cat with outboard drives before ? Unless you plan on staying in rivers or lakes, the pitching of a cat in open water waves will lift a transom mounted outboard prop clear of the water.. they need to be mounted as far forward as possible. ..and i would...

Re: Electric liveaboard catamaran project

Nice boat project! Have you already bought the electric outboard motors? If not, you could look into the QS Motor range to replace the diesel engines. More info on them here on E-S: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65972 Water cooled QS138 is probably more than enough: htt...

Re: Electric liveaboard catamaran project

So just one quick update. I was able to spend another week on the boat and get the first piece of the project done... The engines are out! It was a monumentally difficult job due to the hardtop making it impossible to use a crane, and the boat being out of the water, over 2 meters above the ground. ...

Electric liveaboard catamaran project

I've bought a boat! It's a 1976 Catalac 9M catamaran, older than me. Now it had two 30HP perkins diesel motors. These were completely overpowered for a sailboat like this, they usually have two 10HP diesels. They're also really heavy, and smell like diesels. This is a major problem for my wife, as s...

Re: Electric catamaran

Sail boat, they used to build them heavy back in the day before they knew how strong fibreglass really was.

Doesn't do too well close to the wind, but sails well downwind.

Re: Electric catamaran

Will do of course. I'm still making decisions, and now I'm thinking the ePropulsion 6kw motor would be better again. Less holes under the waterline. Going to do some measurements for solar. 1200w can definitely fit, but it looks like 1600w is an option. More is always better of course. Ultimately I'...

Electric catamaran

So I've recently become the happy owner of a small 4 ton 1976 British catamaran. It currently has twin diesels, one of which is in a bit of disrepair. Being a huge fan of electric motors I think this is the perfect opportunity to go electric, or rather hybrid considering I'm keeping one diesel. Now ...

Re: bluetooth BMS?

I have a ANT 16s 100A BMS. The problem is, the bluetooth goes offline after a while even if there is a constant draw of current. To wake it up, I have to manually use a extra 3V-cell and connect it with the two designated wires. That is most unconvinient. Anyone knows how to solve this issue. Maybe...

Re: bluetooth BMS?

So my ANT BMS has been working flawlessly apart from one minor issue. When charging, my cells will be balancing fine, then when they're just about at full voltage and perfectly in balance, it seems like the balance function turns off and the voltages will start to drift. The lights still flash as if...

Re: What could be wrong with my bike?

So I ran another test this morning. Lifted the rear wheel and ran the motor very slowly. No problem it seemed to turn fine. Then I disconnected the red phase. No turning wheel until I spun it by hand. The same with the blue and green phase. Reconnected all again and the wheel would turn again from a...

in your second pic 2 phasewires are touching the stator, so i would start there.
I did check if they were properly insulated, and added some extra tape just in case.

Re: What could be wrong with my bike?

Time to re-open this thread. I'd stopped commuting on my bike for a while, but now I'm back on it again. Problems are still the same, though they completely disappear once the bike is just moving even at walking speed. I'll have to get hold of a better multimeter to test the resistance between the c...

Re: Low-Speed Sputtering 2KW controller/hub motor

Did you ever resolve this? I'm having the exact same issue with my cromotor and lyen controller. Also disappears once I'm moving but does feel like slight cutouts when starting up. My review tester seems to indicate everything is normal, and unloaded the wheel will turn really slowly and smoothly.

Re: bluetooth BMS?

Thank u eee291, making progress on this and feeling better about it. I was also able to contact the seller and they were great and got me the English manual. I have posted a link below to the English manual for what I am calling the ANT Protection board BMS 8s to 24s. https://drive.google.com/file/...

Re: bluetooth BMS?

I'm just about to connect up my bluetooth BMS finally. One question though. I bought the 24s 100A board, so I would have expected to have 25 balance leads, one for the most negative and going positive through all of them, only thing is my BMS clearly has slots for 26 cables (pictures attached). Any ...

Re: Need a video of a lipo fire

I don't take it too personally. I realise the UN isn't perfect, nowhere is, but the work I'm doing and the people I work for are all honest, hardworking and doing their jobs to literally feed people when things are going horribly wrong in the world. My role is to teach people how to use drones for m...

Re: Need a video of a lipo fire

Haha yeah I guess grabbing the camera might not be the best thing to do at the time. I know a few people here have deliberately overcharged lipo to explosion. Hoping they'll share those videos. I work for the UN, this is something we'll be turning into an online course as the minimum requirement for...

Need a video of a lipo fire

We're putting together a safety video for some drone training. One of the things we'd like to show are a lipo fire. I know there are thousands on youtube, but the agency I work for insists on putting the video into our course, not just the youtube link. That means we'd need permission to use it. Doe...

Re: bluetooth BMS?

A couple of questions before I hit the order button. I have a 24s 10AH lifepo4 pack, and while I generally only use 20A to 30A, I sometimes burst to 80A for a short while. Will the 100A version of this BMS be able to handle that for me or should I go for a higher amp version? https://www.ebay.com/it...

One more question, is the screen useful or can everything be displayed on an android phone? I'm particularly thinking of the need to track down a weak cell, can I view all cell voltages simultaneously on a phone?

Phew, I've gone through all 18 pages of this thread today to make sure this is the BMS I should order. My bike is 24s 10AH lifepo4 powered, and I never run more than 65A peak or 25A continuous. I'm looking forward to be able to check how charging is going without having to go outside this (southern ...

Re: What could be wrong with my bike?

With no load I have no problem, here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9vvhofSaog I've had the side covers off the motor, but without something to pull the stator out I couldn't really check the magnets. Here's a couple of pictures: https://imgur.com/a/ZMfHoEB and https://imgur.com/a/Xiprq...
