Re: Definitive Tests on the Heating and Cooling of Hub Motors

An open motor has a great ability to be cooled with a passive or active fan as you guys did. And a motor case with little air shows to transfer heat better to the case. How much heat could be transferred to the case through radiant heating if an ideal black lining were on the magnets and all in the...

ThanKS Justin! I'm currently in the trip did you get any feedback from OP? I know, old thread.. still totally actual for me and I'm pretty surprised there is so less ES madness here Nothing at all from the OP unfortunately but the offer still stands if he's listening! In the meantime though I've be...

Re: Analysis of regen on an ebike

Excellent thread, especially start and end, now understanding quite a bit more on regen efficiency, but given the tradeoffs of various systems in term of hill-climbing efficiency, I would appreciate your insights on the overall performance in a mountainous area. The irony is that while it is arguab...

Re: Compact Field Oriented Controller, ASI + Grin, limited run

Can one program one of ASI's other controllers (such as the BAC2000) with the latest version of the Phaserunner Software Suite? Out of the box, no. But if you already have bacdoor installed then in principle it is possible to update the firmware on your BAC2000 to have the same customized firmware ...

Version 1.1 Beta 6 software release

Hey everyone, there is a newer V1.1 beta software that is getting very close to having all desired features of the V1.1 release code and I'd love to have some people testing it out too. We have the windows build available here http://www.ebikes.ca/downloads/PhaserunnerSuite-windows-v1.1.0b6.7z.exe M...

Re: Compact Field Oriented Controller, ASI + Grin, limited run

Max amps going from the controller to the motor ("phase amps") should be set according to the most restrictive specification of : - the controller (ex : baserunner is said to be good for 30-35A phase without going into thermal rollback mode) Correct with everything but on this one point there's no ...

Re: Cycle Analyst V3 preview and first beta release

That was my first idea to do it, but unfortunately the Lebowksi's safety feature won't make it finish boot if the throttle in signal is higher than idle throttle. So let's say you calibrated your throttle to 1.5-3.5V and it sees a throttle voltage of 1.6V during boot it will wait until voltage is a...

This is a nice update, thanks. I’ll have a test ASAP. Apparently there was a chance of a memory leak with the beta build that I posted the other day so use these links here instead Windows: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bh92ddhvsh2ytwz/Beta-1.0%20PhaseRunnerSuite%20V1.1.0.exe?dl=0 MacOS: https://www.dr...

Re: Cycle Analyst V3 preview and first beta release

I guess it wouldn't be too hard to implement. Just check it speed>x km/h, then add some (pre defined) voltage to the idle throttle voltage. No need to check for Watts used or so, even though that would be convenient. I guess a simple implementation like that would really help. Correct. The risk wit...

Re: GMAC vs MAC and Infineon vs Phaserunner

So far I love it. The drag from the clutchless GMAC isn't bad at all, in spite of the numbers, in a 20" wheel it seems to coast as good or better than my Stromer. I'll probably still mess with the coasting function when the firmware comes out, but I would be perfectly happy as is. We're just now in...

Re: Bafang G3xx series high reduction ratio geared hub motors

Justin, do you usually refer the winding turns back to the known labeling for the bafang cst, or something else? No, not at all. The winding turns would hopefully be written on the actual motor stator when you open it up, at least that's been the case from what I've usually seen. There is no reason...

Btw, as you wrote that: Is there a planned feature list for new firmwares? Is CA3 still developed? Yes, there is definitely ongoing development going on with the CA product line, but some of this has switched track to being more hardware related rather than firmware related which I'll be posting ab...

Re: Introducing the Electrom

Would there be a way to close the loop by adding PAS (/encoder/resolver/etc) to take pedal position into account to make controllers regen input variable, so the deadband would require less torque to overcome? Yes, most definitely if you're up for a custom electronics control project. In any higher...

Re: Introducing the Electrom

So I understand the mechanical setup, but how do you use the motor as a generator, and how does it's output get turned into rectified current at a voltage that can charge the battery? I'll speak for Tig here since he came by the shop with the Electron a couple weeks ago. In the end he's got it setu...

After much waiting and back and forth I finally got some sort of information from gomax about the windings of the g360... Kind of. From reading the docs on Grin's website it looks like in version 3.0 we could set the AuxA->Function on a per preset basis, but not in version 3.1. I did some more investigation and the sensor gives some strange readings. First of all it now shows 1.88V resting voltage and 20Nm w/o touching the pedals (where as it was 1.5V before). When i set sensor to "custom" i can reset the ZERO torque voltage, and then it shows 0Nm again. And when i ride i...

Re: Variable regen drag brake for tandem bike w CA3 & PhaseRunner

Variable regen braking would be perfect for this application. I envision a small potentiometer (or perhaps a switched pot) that can be rotated up from its zero position to engage regen that is proportional to the pot’s position. Variability of regen is important to tune speed. After descent it will...
