Re: My battery builds

Looks good. Thanks for sharing. I've been using sla's for too long now. Someday I'll make the switch to 18650. Does the anti spark XT-90 connector get rid of the spark at the switch? My key switch gets pitted out after awhile. Then it gets hot and de-solders. I take it apart and sand the contacts on...

Re: Schwalbe or Maxxis or Kenda

The Kiniptions 26x2.3 look interesting at 850g - fold up.
The DTH's 26x2.3 are lighter at 650g - fold up.
The Schwalbe Big Apple 26x 2.35 is 780g - wire bead.
The Schwalbe Super Moto 26 x 2.35 is 630g - folding.

I like tires around 750g or under. :)

Re: Schwalbe or Maxxis or Kenda

Looks like the choices are still slim for e-bikes. More tires being discontinued. Now they're making a whole bunch of "Fat tires" but no smaller sizes. I was looking at a Maxxis DTH 26x2.3. Anyone tried those? Schwalbe's are $40 each. Yikes.

Re: Remove Microphone off PCB

Good news! I didn't ruin my camera. It now works with the new mic although the gain could be turned down a little somehow. The camera doesn't have that feature. I soldered on to the trace on the back side. It was bigger then the one on the front. Damn these are small traces!

Re: Remove Microphone off PCB

I am not so sure that the trace in the red circle is the proper one anyway. That looks like one trace. Mic wires don't connect to themselves. From what I can see from the picture, I think these are the traces for the mic. Mic traces.JPG I would also be wary of using heat other then an iron because ...

Re: Remove Microphone off PCB

Thanks for the replies. I got it off but something happened to the middle contact on the board. Probably got ripped off. :x I don't understand this type of mic with center positive. Might have to find the trace on the other side. The lapel mic I bought was going to be external if I can fix this.

Re: Remove Microphone off PCB

It's on there pretty good. I don't want to destroy it. It has soldering pads rather thin pins so yes it is surface mount. Need a soldering iron with a thin putty knife attachment. Scoop it off.

Remove Microphone off PCB

I have a different mic I wanted to try for this camera board. A simple question but what's the best way to desolder the mic when there is no pins on the back side? I may want to reuse it if the new one doesn't work out. I know you guys are smart in here. :)

Re: Tires - Balloon/Urban type

Looks like Michelin Pilots are discontinued now. The replacement is Michelin Energy which looks like the same tread design but only available in 700c. Then they say it's for ebikes. :? On a side note, it looks like Bontrager Hanks tires are back again. I'd run a liner of some sort if getting those a...

I got a flat today and I noticed while fixing the flat that the sidewall is already starting to crack or dry rot. Wow, its only been one year. Shame on you Michelin engineers! The bontragers were much better and didn't crack.

Re: HOT SLAs!!!

SLA are sealed. they do not vent. sounds like a loose connection is overheating and causing the goop on the connections to smoke. if you are charging in series then measure voltage across each pack in the series to evaluate which has the high internal resistance. As I understand it, the AGM variety...

Re: SLA Batteries, the Peukert Effect on 24v 12Ah

I'm torn between LifePo4 for @ $400-650 which is better range, longer lasting, etc….. But (4) 12v 12Ah SLA's delivered for a final price of a bit less than $100, it makes the decision harder, especially since I don't have trips farther than 10-15 miles Makes for a tougher decision. IAN. Looks like ...

Re: SLA Batteries, the Peukert Effect on 24v 12Ah

Right. I don't know how many cycles but usually I do 1500 miles a year. Only $19 a battery. Even the more expensive good brands have failed early on me so no use getting those anymore.

The puffing came back. More noticeable after discharge. I hooked up a voltmeter to the cells. You can watch the voltage rise just pinching it with your fingers. I clamped them down again with authority this time. These type of batteries are a joke.

I had trouble getting the hot glue to stick to the foil where the acid came out. RTV wouldn't stick either. Had to do one pack over when it puffed slightly. It seems to be ok right now.

Great thread. It worked on lifepo4 rc packs. Although I wasn't able to squish it back to original size. Restored some capacity too. I used hot glue for the hole. I'm stoked.

Re: Prop Pusher E-bikes

From what I've read, the large scale electric ducted fan motors put out like 10-15lbs of thrust each. So 6 motors = 60 - 90lbs thrust. Doesn't seem like that much for 80 mph. But it seems that all you need is 6-10lbs worth according to wind tunnel tests on TT bikes for 30 mph. So maybe all you reall...

Re: Prop Pusher E-bikes

30kw on a road bike and all they can manage is under 80? don't get me wrong this is still dangerous as hell for what it is. . Maybe tone that road bike down to 45 mph which would be like an olympic level sprinter. They don't say what motor/fans those are. It would be interesting to know what speeds...
