Re: Water cooled car alternator

Well I made some progress by trouble shooting. It looks like my female sensor connectors needed some TLC. I engaged them out of the house and bend the latch back. Now they are tigh and have solid connections. The other things I did I swapped the sensor order. From YGB to BGY. That works now and giv...

Re: Car alternator to PMAC?

Another thing that seems strange is it seems to always want to spin in reverse. Every time I have set it up on the nuc it spins in reverse, but there I can just change direction. And I just connect the phases and halls in any order and run self learn. On the cheap controller I have found a few comb...

Re: Car alternator to PMAC?

Not good. Capacitors won't fix that problem. The flux it getting pulled to one side at high currents. Most motors have the hall sensors mounted at the end of the slot, not in the middle. Since the rotor teeth are skewed, this might be hard to make work also. You may need to use a separate encoder, ...

SecondLife EV Batteries: Trustful?

Hello, everyone, sorry if this isn't the correct place on the forum to ask, but i would like to know if someone here knows the british ebay store "SecondLife EV Batteries", i saw an ad about a 60kW motor for cheap, but i don't know if they are trustful or not since the motor is advertised ...

Re: Car alternator to PMAC?

*Would getting a third sensor in a better position than the one to the right or left make a difference? Yeah, you NEED 3 sensors, and its better to keep them at the same level in the middle Check Austiwawa's Channel for a hall tester schematic, so that you will know if the sensors are working as th...

Re: Car alternator to PMAC?

I have been reading here: http://mitrocketscience.blogspot.com/2011/08/hall-effect-sensor-placement-for.html There are 36slots, so that means they are 10 mechanical degrees apart. And there are 6 pole pares on the rotor. Then it seems like I can mount the sensors 20degrees apart, so that would mean...

Re: Car alternator to PMAC?

I have been going trough some threads, but none of them use permanent magnets. I know there should be at least one, where they built a new rotor. But I havent found that so far, and I dont think it matters much because it is different. I want to use the original rotor with a permanent magnet. But I...

Re: Buick Lacrosse e-assist moto-alternator

Interesting I would have thought the PM rotor would be the way to go along with it being wound as (?)36 volt making it easier to gain rpm through voltage change... am I off in my thinking? In what ways are they better and would the controllers be cheaper for the A/C gen2? PS thanks for the advice T...

Re: Water cooled car alternator

you can buy a Belt-driven Starter/Generator motor,It is a permanent magnet synchronous motor,It is very efficient,Maximum power is greater than 15Kw Buying those would be interesting to use, but you didn't told us their brand, voltage, or where its sold. There also are other starter/generators that...

I'm working on a project and I want to use a BAS to wholly replace the starter; I don't need the the power assist function, so it would just be starter be alternator. Does this motor have enough power for cold cranking and would I be able to use a standard controller? Mild hybrid DIY builds aren't ...

Motor extension/adapter, viable?

Hello again, ES users I know someone that got one of those mini chinese cars but is looking to upgrade it (1000W if i'm not mistaken) So i had the idea to make a sleeve adapter/extension for Motenergy brushed motors, the ME1003 just as an example And between the motor and the gearbox, where the adap...

Re: Water cooled car alternator

Hi, i have bought two water cooled car alternators, for remake a rotor with magnets. But i measured parameters like no load current, revs and BEMF. And its not bad at all. I wonder if it's not worth using as is and not remake it. Because I will have a variable "magnet strength" = variable...

Do you have a picture how to place the hall sensors?
Not all alternators are made equally, so a single photo won't be a correct way to help you.
Austiwawa's video have a quick equation that you can use to know where to install the hall sensors

Re: Car Alternator to 3Phase Motor conversion.

Hello for everyone in this thread Well, about removing the power off the rotor and it speeding up, its because with less magnetic flux on the rotor the speed goes up and the torque goes down, but i don't recommend doing that again, alright? Installing hall sensors are a bit messy but doable, please ...

Re: Alternator Hall Sensor Positioning

Here's my findings with driving on alternator. If you use without sensors, to generate back emf, rotor need min 1.8A. I'm using pwm for rotor, and testing with dc source gave me the same amps. I installed sensors, but maybe made a mistake for placing them, because, controller work same with or with...
