Re: mixed Pb + Lifepo
It's that higher level of understanding that I am seeking by posting here.
The LiFePO4 pack is Headway cells 40152S. They charge up to about 55V. I want to add about 13V using a 15Ah SLA. I have a (nominal) 60V charger.

mixed Pb + Lifepo
I know. I know that mixing these into one pack is a bad idea. I do read warnings about it, but I have not found a good explanation. I do want to know the details of what would happen during charge and discharge cycles if I added a 12V SLA to a pack made up of 16 LiFePO4 15Ah cylindrical cells. Thanks.

Amberwolf, thank you.
As soon as we get a bit of warmer weather, I'll apply your solutions -- which, now that the snow is flying, may not be until spring.

Cycle Analyst Throttle Settings
I have a 750-watt trike motor driving the rear axle on an adult tricycle. When I crank the throttle on full, the motor cuts out after about 15 seconds, but it will run steadily if I hold the throttle at a lower power. What adjustments do I need to make in the CA to correct this?
Thanks.
Stan
Thanks.

I went for about a 30-minute ride this afternoon. The motor did not falter at all using the Battery with the BMS.

Re: Motor Cuts Out Randomly
AngryBob, See my responses between your lines. So, you are saying that you are riding along, lose power, then, with no change on the throttle, you do absolutely nothing, and then power comes back on? ----Yes And, this happens with a pack with no BMS, while a pack WITH a BMS worked? ----Yes. Was this...

Re: Motor Cuts Out Randomly
aCeMadMod, You asked me if I had BMS. I was using a non-bms pack on the motor (the one that cuts out) which powers my drive train. I switched that pack with a bms pack, the one that drives my front hub motor. I went for a short run this morning and the motor did not cut out. I will test some more to...

Re: Motor Cuts Out Randomly
Thanks.
Okay. I'll jack up the drive wheel first and run it in place so that there is very little load on the crank.

Re: Motor Cuts Out Randomly
I have the CA set to ramp up gently. It's the reason I bought the CA. The motor was starting up with such ferocity that it was wrecking freewheels. If I set it to bypass mode will it also bypass ramping? As amberwolf said, "this sends the exact same throttle signal out that it gets in, no modif...

Re: Motor Cuts Out Randomly
"Describe your EXACT procedure to restore functionality after the cut-out. Voltage readings?" Actually, I have not had a chance to try some of the suggestions. Hopefully, depending on the weather, I'll have a report tomorrow -- and maybe a solution. Sometimes it runs for several minutes, s...

AngryBob,
Thanks. I have an Electrocar Brushlessmotor Controller Tester. I can disconnect the controller and wire it up to the tester.

Re: Motor Cuts Out Randomly
aCeMadMod, the pack I usually use does not have a bms, but I have a pack that does, which I can try. Maybe it's time to manually balance the cells in that pack.

I forgot to mention that the motor is mounted on a Schwinn Meridian 26-inch tricycle, upon which I have installed a five-speed hub.

Motor Cuts Out Randomly
Is it the Cycle Analyst or the controller? I can't figure it out. I know that it is not low voltage because it cuts off even at low speeds when the CA is displaying high voltage.

The wire colours for the two three-pin connectors are:
red, green, black
& red, black, blue
I'm not sure which is the PAS (pedal assist) or which is the throttle.

All very helpful. Thank you.
I think I'll get some 1 kohm resistors. Would they be 1/4 watt?

Throttle -- Safe Trial and Error
I'm installing a new three-wire throttle, having to change connectors and match up wires. I know which wires carry the 5 volts. If I connect the 5V wire from the controller to the 5V wire (red) on the throttle, will it be safe to guess at the ground and signal wires?
Thanks.
Thanks.
