Once you get this prototype done!

Get it into mass production, we all can have fun.

Have been wanting to build a bike/car so can hardly wait until you start riding.

Re: C Cab Hot Rod Power Advice

I've enjoyed reading this thread during my new found (lockdown) spare time. Well done Ed on producing such a fun and unique vehicle. You've shown admirable persistence in coming to terms with the electrical side of the project and it is clear your knowledge is expanding rapidly from the early posts...

um...ok. i have no idea what that is or does, though. doesnt' look anything like any of the things i was talking about. :? This should explain it. Only the first few minutes explain what it is and how it works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J67L5D1oq5Q I may have paid more than I needed, but this...

Re: C Cab Hot Rod Power Advice

Thanks, amberwolf, I hope you are happy with yourself. You've cost me $193.95. Why am I laughing ????? But it's for the better. Well, it's done..he accepted my offer of $180 including shipping. Didn't think about tax until too late. So it cost me $193.95. Didn't really want to put that much mo...

Re: C Cab Hot Rod Power Advice

I've bitten the bullet and put in an offer for this https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cub-Cadet-70-100-Up-Ross-Steering-Column/264510850709?hash=item3d96134695:g:rwoAAOSwAGhdsxTC If it is accepted, I will have to cut the shaft down from 25-26 inches to 19 inches. Or maybe change steering wheel style. If I le...

Re: C Cab Hot Rod Power Advice

Amberwolf - Thanks for that info. It has made me pause a bit, to see how I want to proceed. To do this 'right', I'm thinking for this part of the build anyway, I'm really smarter by buying the correct component for the task...though that will mean $$$. Currently looking at a couple of options. http...

Steering Update Although I have the steering in working order, I am not satisfied with the outcome. I've been searching and searching for more appropriate options. They are either too large physically or too large money wise. Been looking at the various types as well, such as boat steering mechanism...

Steering Trial Run As this is the first time checking it for ease of operation, there are some adjustments to be made. But if it works on the road, it will be great. I'm still looking to install a steering column/box with gearing later on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agSpFG420nI https://www.yout...

Ok, the column is done and bolted to the frame. https://i.ibb.co/p0zqrFh/DSCN4417.jpg https://i.ibb.co/fQgLc5v/DSCN4423.jpg Doing a fit check. Can't decide if I should keep the tall shaft, and maybe use it as a flag pole, or cut it down to size. https://i.ibb.co/8sn6nSP/DSCN4418.jpg https://i.ibb.co...

Re: C Cab Hot Rod Power Advice

The urge to get started on the steering, hit today. I'm using a support tube from a salvaged basketball hoop framing. Wedged in is a 3/4" bore shaft collar. One on each end. The top shaft collar is welded near the top of the post. The bottom is plug welded in. I took advantage of a hole that was alr...

Re: C Cab Hot Rod Power Advice

Just another thought about using the switch panel or similar. https://i.ibb.co/fDkwhhz/DSCN4402.jpg This overhead location is much easier to get to and it isn't quite as visible. Re: C Cab Hot Rod Power Advice

Worked on some sort of steering design. I think I have got the main idea down on paper, and all the levers going in the right direction. I don't want to turn the wheel left and end up in the creek on the right... 😬 In the drawing below, you are looking straight down, over the top of the frame rail....

Re: C Cab Hot Rod Power Advice

I needed to see what the new console looked like with the body on. Also how much legroom, remained with this design. Also, worked on the visibility problem. Between my height and how the top is designed, I couldn't see straight out the front. These pictures don't show the change, but with fiddling w...

Re: C Cab Hot Rod Power Advice

It might be interesting to see what happens if you only slow down one motor. This could be helpful in a hard turn. now that's something clever i never thought of. :!: and easy to setup for automatic operation with microswitches on the steering, operated by cams. I think tanks and bulldozers ...

Re: C Cab Hot Rod Power Advice

Looking good. I love CAD (cardboard aided design). The speed switch works with any kind of motor. It simply limits the throttle. You can use a jumper wire or short the speed switch wires with a screwdriver to see what it does. It might be interesting to see what happens if you only slow down one mo...

Re: C Cab Hot Rod Power Advice

Today I've been working on a mock-up, battery cover/console. Not what I had in mind, when originally designing, this car. But the design has to evolve as the need arises. This is but the first design and the most practical. It's quite boxy, so it needs some contrasting pockets, holes, do-dads.....yo...

Re: C Cab Hot Rod Power Advice

Your hall and phase wiring looks good. Lots of people get stuck on that step or blow something up. The wiring in the 'reference photo', isn't my wiring, just in case, you thought it was. But I can take credit for it if you insist... Most controllers have a "3 speed" switch, but I guess yours ...

Wiring Update It's a good thing, (and one reason why) I take pictures. Lots and lots of pictures. Not only for posting, but as a reference for myself, during the course of my builds. In this case, it was instrumental in discovering that when I changed to the new terminal blocks, I didn't pay attenti...

Re: Do I need and Ark?

Ever think of piling up a been? A speed bump high enough you don't need the floodgates, that you can drive over. I don't literally have that, but there's a high sidewalk to drive over and my lot is downhill. Yes, speed bump your driveway. That's what I did. I have a pipe I can open if needed to dra...
