Not wanting to sound smug, but I'm glad I bought a plug-in hybrid.

Re: la Nina rears her ugly head

Lost power for ~2 hours last night. I have a couple UPS plugged in series so I was able to use my wifi router for the 2 hours to get internet and phone service on my tablets and laptops. I was just about ready to hook up my inverter to the Volt for power for the freezer and fridge when the power cam...

That would be an ambitious project, but one that will have to be conquered eventually as sooner or later we will run out of fossil fuels.

I wish you the best of luck on this. We need more folks like you. :thumb:

I have doubts about a 4 door pickup selling very well. I hope Musk didn't shoot himself in the foot trying to please everybody.

I think that there is a need for a mid range electric work truck but this isn't it. Could you imagine that truck/car with a tool box in the back.

Re: How to use Chevy vault for backup power

I bought a 1500kW pure sine wave inverter for my 2016 Volt and it worked fine. Haven't had a chance to try it out on my 2019 model. If you do a search on the Volt forums they have more info.

VERY nice. Clean installation!

I've been tempted to convert a pickup truck but don't have the energy I used to have.

Re: la Nina rears her ugly head

We have 13 solar panels on our roof, but seeing as how they are tied into the grid they won't do us any good with the power off. I'd love to find a way that they could keep the volt's batteries charged when the power goes out. Then I could be totally independent of the grid in outages. I thought of...

Re: la Nina rears her ugly head

While PG&E hasn't cut our power yet (Lompoc,CA), I'm ready with a 12V 2kW inverter that I'll use with my Volt's battery. I've got a full tank of gas in it so should be able to keep my food cold for a week or so. We have 13 solar panels on our roof, but seeing as how they are tied into the grid they ...

The pics show up for me. Did you mean the pic is taken at a bad angle?

You are right that a 83 mm BB will be a bit too big. There are not quite enough threads for it. It would fit a 68 - 70 mm fine.

Looks like it will take up to a 80mm. I remember that it would fit my Townie 21.

ATS Speed Drive (Schlumpf) 165% overdrive crankset w/cranks

New ATS speed drive with Schlumpf 160 mm cranks. The ATS is a authorized Schlumpf knockoff. I bought this new from member Mattyciii about 7 years ago and never used it. It was sold to me as new but Mattyciii did test mount it before selling it to me. The cranks are 160mm which is just right for high...

Would the contactor be different if it was built for 12V DC or 100V DC but same amp rating?

Yes

Good luck finding a 100V 100A dc contactor that is affordable. Even then you really will need a pre charge circuit to keep the contacts from welding themselves shut when energizing.

I did the same 'semi rerirement' thing 3 weeks before my 40th birthday. I had a chance to sell my business and took it. Best decision I ever made.
