Re: how about a 3d printer section?

So far Tinkercad has been all I have needed (if I can't find a .stl on thingiverse or thangs that does what I want). However I can see myself having to get comfortable with Fusion 360 if something complicated comes up in the future.

Which printer did you end up getting?

Nice job with the CAD. I couldn't do that.

It will be interesting to see what you come up with for gearing for all those speeds.

Re: how about a 3d printer section?

I'm not positive, but I think all the filaments with cf in them print with a rough texture.

Curious why you chose cf/PLA. I thought cf was to add rigidity, PLA is brittle to start with. PETG and Nylon are a bit 'bendy' without the cf.

Re: how about a 3d printer section?

If I use a lot of that purple glue stick I can get it to stick ok on my glass bed. I bought a tube of magigoo that I will be trying today. I've been setting the Z offset at one paper layer (~.07mm) for PLA but am using 3 pieces of paper in order to get a decent looking first layer test print. The be...

Re: how about a 3d printer section?

So far most everything I have printed has been of Sunlu PLA+. I can get PETG to print sometimes but am still having trouble with it wanting to ball up and tear away from the bed about 50% of the time depending on what I'm attempting to print. When I do a first layer test it turns out about perfect. ...

Re: how about a 3d printer section?

Yes, there are a lot of plastics that can be printed that are stronger (less brittle) than PLA. I'm in the process of figuring out carbon fiber/PETG and when done with that I'm going to attempt NylonX (cf/nylon).

Re: how about a 3d printer section?

Yep, it's kind of like building a bike out of wood. It can be done but what's the point. It's like everything we use to build with, they all have different applications. I have to agree that layer adhesion is the Achilles' heel of additive manufacturing. That said, I'm having a blast playing around ...

Re: how about a 3d printer section?

It really doesn't cost much to get started in 3D printing. Newegg sells the Ender3 v2 for $229 and a roll of PLA costs ~$20. With that a guy can make a lot of useful things that would take much more time to make using traditional methods. However after saying that, I won't be getting rid of my "...

When I built that bike there were no mid drives. :)

But you are right about a hub motor being less complicated. If starting over I would still use one. Nothing wrong with a mid drive though.

Re: how about a 3d printer section?

ive finally come to the conclusion find a couple goto filaments and stick with them That's exactly what I'm going to do. So far I've decided on Sunlu for PLA+ (good price, prints fine). I think I want something with CF in it too. The CF/PETG from Filament.ca I'm trying out seems to print ok so far....

I don't know how I missed this thread until now, but I have to say that you do excellent work. Overall some of the best I've seen. Nice to see you brazed the frame. Re: how about a 3d printer section?

Retractions is in the advanced/expert settings under Travel in Cura. Your machine using PLA shouldn't need more than 7mm. 80 mm/sec might be a bit fast. Try 40 if you are having trouble I can't stress enough how important the first layer is. Your Z offset has to be spot on. Use the micro step contro...
