Re: Using EV Chargers

Now hopefully we have dispelled any myths. . . The type held and propagated by folks who have no practical sense of Power and Electricity. ... NO ... You can not practically "grab a charge" from a DC Fast Charge Station with a couple resistors and some jumper cables. ... What you can do tho. ....

Now Hiring - EV Engineers Needed - Bay Area

I am actively recruiting right now. By actively... I mean right here, right now, get you an interview and an offer. ... If you are coming from someplace like Tesla... I can guarantee you an interview and priority. I value Tesla Engineers over Apple, Google, or anywhere else. Tesla has, over the last...

Using EV Chargers

This will be slow to roll out... but I now am familiar with how to do this. From Easiest to Hardest: J1772: Basically you take any charger with a 240V input and zip-tie it to your bike. Add a diode and a couple relays and you are set. You will of course need the correct inlet connector. I can help y...

Re: Problems with Lunacycle - GOT DENTED RIM

I have butted heads with the owner of Luna in the past. Credit where credit is due... In the business I did with him (Eric) he held up his end of the bargain and delivered what was requested in the condition described on time. Those rims look pretty munched... I would just use them myself EH... In t...

Re: Even the mormon capital of the USA has legalized medicinal cannabis..

I did not read the thread, so probably should not post, but here is some factual data: * Utah, specifically Salt Lake City, is actually less than 50% Mormon. Compare that to some traditionally Christian cities. * Utah just passed the gnarliest DUI law in the country. .05 IIRC. * In the startup commu...

Ethos of Give and Take

I have been participating, on and off, on forums similar to this since before we had digital cameras. Back then... the world was a different place. Search Engines effectively did not exist and ... the Internet as we know it... did not yet exist. This was not that long ago. Anyway... As things natura...

Semantics... But sure I agree.

I have been renting Jump Bikes... Even tho I have two perfectly good personal ebikes.

I like not worrying when I reach the end of the "last mile"... As opposed to the weight of protecting personal property.

Re: (mini) Jump Bikes Review

Step one is sparking interest in ebikes.
Charge station, swaps, pickup program... Matters not.

This early.. . they need to pick them up just to assess wear and service mechanical parts.

Santa Cruz now has a generation who think power assist rocks.

Re: Spot welding fuses to individual 18650 cells?

Yes yes but I want a 80amp pack 120peak like a 20s8p of Samsung 25r. But what buss bar systen can supply that and fit on a bike. Keep your fuses. Hey Zip Its ok... I want a 100A/200A peak :P For my ebikes I still run pouch cells Their roots are in RC flight and that aligns perfectly with ebikes. I ...

Re: Sevcon Gen 4 Errors and Solutions thread

To be clear If nit picking In this very particular case It is more reliable to run a coil that is of a voltage that is close to your pack This lowers the stress on the PWM fets (one top that stays on, but the bottom nchannel switches) They are small fets and ... if they fail... your system will fail...

Re: Sevcon Gen 4 Errors and Solutions thread

That means over current on your contactor coil This is because the Sevcon is PWM'ing your pack voltage and sending that to your coil. If it is a raw coil... it works... as say your pack is 100V and the coil is 24V you send a 25% duty cycle... you get ok voltage Your contactor has built in supression...

I have seen them overseas but they are more a company that you spec and order batches from... So from the supplier I am sure you could get sample batches out of them - 5 could happen but 20 is where I usually start (Enough to convince them that you are doing an engineering evaluation) Zero specified...

2008? Zero Wheel (rim laced to hub)

I have on my KMX trike a rim I think it came from a 2008 Zero... so that would be a 17" motorcycle rim? I used to adapt (lace) all bike rims to the special KMX hub... which takes a funny shaft size... but that got old. I had an adapter machined with the ID of the KMX shaft and the OD to fit this par...

Re: Spot welding fuses to individual 18650 cells?

Kit for 30 cells = $1 a cell
So - 10*14 = $140

For that.... You could build a kit which is sound (in an engineering sense) and safe.

Re: 2WD trike pulling left when accelerating

P.S. Most people running dual controllers are doing so in a tandem configuration. Speed mode is a confusing mode for many people. It can be visualized in 2 ways 1) Big difference in current speed vs demanded speed This is like flipping an OpAmp into saturation - the current limit dominates 2) Tiny d...
