Re: Hub Motor on skewer front fork?

Chalo, Can you at some point in the future post a pic with the two different types of "front washers"? I'm guessing that it's a bent tab vs an elongated tab, but I'd like to see the differences. My only experience with them are those included in the Grin front wheel kits. Those, a tight fr...

Re: CA V3.1 and BaseRunner 4 working temperatures ?

I don't know if Grin has ever published max limits for low temperature use. I'd contact them directly if you think you need the "official" numbers, otherwise it's really just anecdotal information. My CA3.1/BaseRunner based commuter bike is used all winter, stored in an unheated garage (bu...

Re: Upgrade brakes and running shifter cable under Tongsheng mid drive motor

First I think the cantilever brakes shown in the earlier post are not setup properly. Correctly setup with the right pads there should be enough space to have them oriented with the bolts accessible. Cleaned up, setup correctly and with good pads, they should continue to offer good solid braking. V-...

How about this way??..both switchs are independently turning on and off its own converter and the converters are independently wired directly to the battery positiv and negative. Though they are sharing the same battery +/- wires. Yes, that's better. Now add some low amperage fusing on + output of ...

Re: (Beginner) Long-term battery quality: EM3EV, Grin, EBike.CA, Luna

No long term experience (only 15 months so far) but I've been very impressed with Grin's (ebikes.ca) 21700 52v battery (Panasonic NCR21700A cells in a 14S x 3P layout). It's a 14.5amp/hr or 750w capacity and I've comfortably pulled 600w (80%) from it on a number of occasions. It's rated at 40amp but...

Re: Looking for a trustworthy front hub motor

So, I'm looking for a front hub motor, 36 spoke, fits in 100mm dropouts, and not going to melt at 60V. Targeting a maximum speed of 20mph. Anyone have any recommendations for a motor and a controller? I've been using a Shengyi SX-1 (standard wind geared front hub) from Grin with a BaseRunner contro...

Great pics, it's nice to see these as they can be very educational to other folks. I can't add to the discussion about the torque arms but I do have a suggestion since you are interested in maintaining that aluminum frame. There is some minor damage around the openings and I'd gently sand that surfa...

Re: Just more than a bike (low power / low consumption)

In general, once you are talking hub motors, the best bet is to have lots of power up the hill. This gets you up with max efficiency if you ride up the hill about 15 mph. Not fast enough for wasting much on aero, not too fast to pedal hard to help, and not too slow so the motor makes heat. Quick up...

Re: Just more than a bike (low power / low consumption)

No, larger wheels don't simply speed up the motor ... but the question is about the matching of faster wind geared hub motors with smaller wheels and slower or regular wind motors with larger ones. We've done this for years for various reasons. I'd like to find out if there may be a benefit for chan...

Dan, You've raised a question I've had for a while. Well as long as you folks are talking " low power ", you do realize that small front wheel geared hubs tend to work well as well. Less encumbrance with various gear systems as well :o Ah yup, sure do. The city bike I mentioned in the post above is a front hub setup. It's worked out very w...

Re: Just more than a bike (low power / low consumption)

I have 2 bikes, each with ~500w Shengyi SX geared hub motors, BaseRunner controllers, CA3s (same setup except for wheel size), cadence PAS + throttles, and a 52v 14 amp/hr (750w) battery. I'm 6' 2" and around 210lbs, but older (62) :) Normal riding is done with about 200w of assist (PAS level 2...

Re: Charger question

Output of 58.8v at 5 amps? = ~300w I'd add 50% for safety, so 450w. That's comfortably within the specs for any 3 prong NEMA 5-15 plug. If it were me I'd verify the pinouts of the existing plug (ground, neutral, and hot), cut it off, strip back the wires, go down to my local hardware store and get a...

Re: Seting up a GMAC for "250W nominal power" ?

With a self imposed 250-500w limitation managed by the CA3 I just don't see the extra capabilities of the GMAC being a benefit. So unless there was some very specific hardware requirement for the GMAC (locked clutch, external torque arm, 10mm round axles, higher power potential, L10 connector, etc.)...

My guess would be that just slowing the power ramp up would initially get you in the ball park. Would you mind sharing the exact parameter(s) you change to achieve this? I'd start with PAS ramp up rate under the Throttle Out Settings in the CA Setup Utility which is also referred to as ThrO->PAS Ra...
