What did you do to your e-bike today?

Last fall I had a 24 inch rim laced for the front at a local shop. I took delivery of a 48 v shark from EM3EV .. Finally a production plug and play battery after several years of playing with lead and lipo.. I finally got out the garage this wknd and fabbed up a tensioner since I am running single s...

Re: Cyclone or BBSHD on Specialized FSR?

Sorry just caught this thread again. That FSR is way different than mine/newer maybe. Less room for a battery under the frame like mine. Plus I put a 24 inch on front. That is a lot of money though. I only gave 150 on CL for mine. I do love it though. It was the top of the line 30 yrs ago . It is th...

Re: Looking for "new" used bike for electric conversion

That Gary Fisher looks like my Giant Rincon. I run an old E-Bikekit DD hub on the back on 36 volts. I fabbed some torque arms using some heavy washers that came with the hub. I welded small tabs on the washers so I could bolt them to the dropouts. Bike works good . Rim brakes are not great. The Mani...

Re: Cyclone or BBSHD on Specialized FSR?

Looks about the same year as mine. Mine had plenty of room for the battery under the frame. I am running a 24 inch front but you should still have room. Sorry cannot help on the midrive.. I still need to build a custom mount to move it up and maybe build a bash guard around it too.

I like that. Maybe paint the bottle battery and stripe it to look old/retro. Most people would not know it is electric. Welcome to the ES family..

Looks good. A bottle/shark battery will fit and still give you plenty room to step through.

Going to a local bike shop is a good idea. Then you can actually ride different bikes. Even if you don't buy from them.

Re: Seeking advice on e-bike selection

I have heard good things about the torque sensing PAS systems on the new midrives. A system that doubles your output and no throttle. Just mount and go. That and a IGH would be sweet. . I rode a tadpole with a CVT. NuVinci I think. Loved it. And belt drive.. 8) Get something you can fit large tires ...

Re: Dumpster Delinquent

Haven't done that in so long. Last thing I got was yards of leather from a discarded leather couch. The material on the back was pristine. :D And when I want to get rid of something just put it on the curb with a free sign-poof - it's gone.

Re: Recumbent Advise

Looking at your bike again. Putting it on the front might work. Maybe solidly mount it in the headset below the handlebars. I just see all that room on the bottom tube but you might have to move it back out of the strike range of the pedals and add an idler on the vert "seat" tube to raise the chain...

Just saw a RX7 for 500 in town yesterday. Love the body style. Sorry I am not good help. Are you looking for cars with blown engines? I assume that was the prob with the one I saw. Maybe put a wanted ad somewhere.

Re: My first +50mph e-bike

Dogman is right . A big dd hub and 72 volts will do it . But look at MadRhinos bikes in his sig. Quality bikes , motorcycle tires , hyd. brakes etc. A lot of money for sure but cutting corners at 50 mph. would be bad idea. Check out pinkbike and post a couple bikes you like and the sphere will tell ...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Seems wind has not had as much press in this thread ;) Here in Ks there are lots of wind farms in the last 5 years . Wind tends to die down after daytime so same prob as solar. Seems like we could do more with geo thermal. Not sure to call it. :? Seems we could tap into Yellowstone and Calif, Initia...

Re: I'm new here, and I'm trying to decide on my first bike.

I overvolted a 9c to 60 volts and 55 amps it was crazy.. Go with 48-52 volts and keep the amps to 30 and a 9c type motor should live forever. Just don't lug it up big hills.

I love my 2810 = slow winding motors. Just make sure you fab some torque arms. Especially on the front. Regen will make it even more important, working on that axle both ways. Ready to see this machine in the woods. 8)

That will be awesome . 2wd 8) As long as you keep the power reasonable it will do fine. Come up with robust torque arms.

A job you love is worth more than money. That's what hooked me about construction, I just had so much fun making houses out of a pile of sticks. I can drive around here for a 200 mile radius, and go, I built that, and that, and that. Really loved building the roof structures where it got dangerous....

Re: New Samsung cell 33G

I bought mine as a cheaper alternative to the high discharge cells. I use to run 50 amps on my play bike but now it should be back to 20-25 amps. EM3EV does good job/honest report of listing the different cells max amps for a guy like me.. Easy to figure out.. 8)

Re: New build, Mid Drive or Hub?

Only good argument for a hub would be price. They are very cheap compared to md setups. Also in the last couple years they have gotten better and lots of choice of vendors/manuf. now. I have always seen the advantages of middrive . Keeping the motor in it's happy zone. weight dist. hook it to any dr...
