Pretty fun watching this on glympse. He's on the Hennepin Canal bike trail cruising at a a cool 25 mph. About 25 miles east of Moline IL. So cool.

Re: 4500+ Miles US Ebike Tour - August 2014

I've been following this too. I remember following Justin's trip in 07 or 08. Seeing this adventure got me thinking about upgrades to my Yuba my goal is to do a 500 miler self supported trip sometime in September. Seeing those people with the kickstarter... Anybody can do a trip like that with an RV...

Re: what battery to use ? 36v - 48v for heavy bike at 1200W

If it helps I have a heavy cargo bike and a heavy rider living in the Rocky Moutains... I think my bike (hub motor battery) and my fat ass weighs in at 340 pounds but I do load up frequently with at least 50 pounds of crap from the grocery store or camping gear for my touring rides. I had a Ping 36 ...

Ideas on reconfiguring a Ping pack

I have a 48 V 20 Ah ping pack that I bought last year that I puffed some cells on by running regen too soon on a fullish battery (It also could have been the balance wires had an issue which is why the last 4 pouches on each side puffed. or It could be I left the BMS connected for too long this past...

Re: Alright help me spend some money.

I actually bought the Crystalyte HS3540 so it's not that fast winding motor. Justin talked me in to that motor over a Ezee saying that regen would make cogging a wash... not sure if I believe it. I easily got 80 miles out of my my 36v 20Ah on the flats with the geared motor not sure I could expect t...

Alright help me spend some money.

Background: I had a 36 V 20 AH Ping v1 and a BMC V1 rear mounted on a Yuba mundo for about 3 years and put over 5000 miles on it. Eventually though the Ping got a couple of runt cels and I upgraded to a 48 v 20 AH Ping, I also bought a controller and a and new CA from Grin and I have had NOTHING but...

controller shutting down under any load and other annoyances

I took my bike on a long touring ride over the last weekend 170 miles round trip from Salt Lake City to Brigham City. The setup was a Hy-power cycle modded 25 A 12 fet BMC controller that I've had for a couple of years, a v2 BMC geared hub motor a brand new 48 V 20 AH Ping v3 battery and an old hamm...

Re: What did Ping send me?

I realize that the connectors are the balance leads but what are the connectors called?... This pack is way bigger than what I was expecting... Oh well a couple of ammo cans mounted on the rear rack of my mundo and I won't even know it's there while riding... I's only 4 pounds heavier than the 36V 2...

Re: What did Ping send me?

I think you are right. 2 x 24 V 20 AH packs. So what is this connector called? http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6157/6189832625_f81cdd5978.jpg Should I find a male and female of that connector and create a harnessor should I cut it off and hard wire it? Or cut it of and go with some Anderson's in a 4x...

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6002/6190132806_8f75521f65.jpg I just received this in the mail today... and I'm trying to decide if I received the wrong battery pack. Re: New Freewheel Slipping

I had that same thing happen on my BMC hub motor... what eventually ended up happening was the cheap China metal on male threaded side on the motor sheared off so the threads stayed on the inside of the freewheel and the free wheel eventually spun free, but it started out in the same way you are des...

Re: I think I finally killed my PING v1

I sent Cellman an email about 3 weeks ago about buying one of his packs... never heard back from him. I need to do some searching on the forum to see what the concensus is about the BMSbattery A123 cels and BMSs and build my own pack with the 38140S.

Re: I think I finally killed my PING v1

Usually it wouldn't drop much below 36V but I have to remember that most of my riding then was on the flats of the valley. There is a slight uphill grade all in all but one direction so I need to remember that the bike won't perform the same way. I haven't tried the 8% uphill climb yet but I'm think...

Re: I think I finally killed my PING v1

Thought I'd take a minute to update this thread... I ordered a replacement BMS from Ping opened up the duct tape and replaced the BMS connector wires and admired what a cool setup the Ping pack really is, quite the design IMO. So for the last few days I've been charging and bleeding off with short a...

Attached is the image that Ping sent for testing the individual cels. And Pings instructions: Measure voltages from v1 to v12 based on attached diagram. The red line represent red probe of the meter. The black lines represent black probe. If any of the voltages is lower, just charge it up with a sin...

Re: I think I finally killed my PING v1

good news... I think the battery might be fine and the BMS is the problem. I checked the voltages of the individual Cels and all but one were balanced for a depleted pack... all cels read 3.1 volts except for one that registered 2.95. I have a order in now with Ping for one of the newer BMS...Crossi...

Re: I think I finally killed my PING v1

Dogman, I am actually hoping that it is just the BMS. For some reason I decide WOT was a good idea based on something I had read her on ES so the battery only lasted a couple of days and never it charged above 37 V after those WOT climbs... stupid. Previously on climbs I had always kept the throttle...

I think I finally killed my PING v1

Subject says it all I'm pretty sure my 36 V 20 Ah Ping finally died. I recently moved up the hill so as to have a 500 ft vertical avg climb of 4% a for a little over a mile. The battery is no longer charging past 37 v. and I haven't check balancing as I lost my multimeter in the move bit that's not ...

Well my initial cheapo Ping charger blew up a few weeks ago so I decided to place an order for a couple if new chargers from BMSbattery. I ordered another cheapo plastic type 2A 36 v charger and a 4 A 48 V charger. I have a v1 Ping 36V 20 Ah pack that is still going after 2500 miles. Anyway my old p...

Re: Online Map Resources for Bicycle Commuters

Many states have their bike routes set up in a google earth kmz or kml program. Do a google search for (DOT [state] bicycle .kmz) and I'll bet you can find what you are looking for. Even Utah (arguably one of the most backward states) has a great .kmz file with bike paths and routes for the entire s...

Re: My first “let the motor do all the work” ride

I did just the opposite. I tried to see how far I could go. I tried to keep the total watts at <250 and my avg speed was ~15mph. I did 32 miles in <9 Ah on my v2 BMC rear hub 36 V 20 Ah Ping battery. It was a great fairly flat ride. I wish I had more time to explore my area on my ebike on excursion ...

I just got stung by a bee in the forehead last week. Hit the bee going about 20 mph. It didn't really hurt at all but ballooned up pretty good. That's the second time it has happened. Never got stung by a bee until my 30s and now it seems almost annual occurance. Still, I'll take bugs over the sub u...

Re: 1st Mountain Ride with BMC V2-T Motor + 18FET 48A Crystalyte

I have that same motor and I can vouch for it's ability to climb the hills while remaining relatively cool. I did blow my 35 A BMC v2 controller last week when the controller blew a cap (and other things) but the motor was still cool. Seems the cheap trailer connector acted like a fuse. Maybe I miss...

Re: First "touring" ride Yuba Mundo

I have the CA set to limit at 24 amps, but from what I've read the current limiting in the CA isn't necessarily instantaneous. From what I've been able to tell the cap because it just got too hot and lost it's capacitance rating and.... pop... another possibility was that the CA showed the max amps ...
