Re: opening a Bafang CST... and putting it back!

Number of teeth is OK: I believe it's 42, anyway everything runs very smoothly once the motor is disassembled, or until the cap not not tightened. Opening it up again... it's obviously what I have to do, and I did it already. However, there is not much to misplace that I don't know what to change. T...

opening a Bafang CST... and putting it back!

Hi there, I need help with a Bafang CST which I just opened to substitute the nylon gears. After opening, and learning that the motor was in perfect condition but for one split gear and another one with a damaged teeth, I ordered replacement gears, swapped them, mounted everything back, and... I hav...

I have in mind a similar approach for my 16s packs. Do you guys think that charging with 2 chargers fed by two distinct power supplies is safe?

Re: is A123 8s2p 4.6Ah enough for 500W bike?

I'm throwing in my 2c of experience. I have a similar commute, short and steep, perhaps a bit longer than yours, and I am doing it happily since more than 2 years with A123 32113 cells (with threaded tabs). Nominal 4.4Ah, measured about 4.0Ah new, they were gray market at best. I am more than happy ...

Re: Welding battery packs in Europe

This is to give the community a feedback on the amazing service provided by this guy schwibsi (Andreas). I have just received my pack and I am extremely happy with it: perfectly done, and quickly, with utter attention to details. But what I enjoyed most in this experience is the way he handled the p...

Re: Tesla Powerwall $350 / kwh Retail

Hillhater: yes, I am positive of the 3kW max power limit. In detail: the limit is 3.0kW but the meter actually breaks at 3.3kW (10% tolerance); ii) there are grace periods, like 20% excess allowed for 1', the slightest excess of 0.x% will cut the power after 15'; iii) it is of course possible to hav...

Re: Tesla Powerwall $350 / kwh Retail

Same here (Italy). AFAIK, the 7kWh model is meant to maximize the percentage of solar energy that you use locally, and to avoid putting most of it back to the grid. There are many financial models for solar panels at work, and I guess some are (and will be) such that self-consumption becomes the mos...

Re: CAv3 Powering off Low Voltage Cuttoff

Yeah, leave it on for a couple of days at least. AFAIK, when the charger switches on/off (red/gree light), this means that one cell is high and hits HVC. The other situation is when one cell is low, so the charger will go to green and simply stay there. It's at that point that the real balancing act...

Re: Welding battery packs in Europe

Hi Schwibsi, can you advise on a small / medium saddle bag capable of holding 5p10s of 18650 cells? A different side of the same question is: can you please tell me, based on your judgement, which is the minimum number of parallel cells for say 20A continuous (mountain area here)? Is my 5p estimate ...

Killing a LiFe pack is not impossible but also not easy. Chances are you'll recover everything.

How and where do you measure the 21V? Is there a BMS attached to the pack?

Infineon controller bricked while programming?

Hi there, I have damaged a controller which I'd like to recover. I am not in a hurry because a replacement is on its way, but I could use a spare. I am writing here because I hope to find someone that can guide me step by step through determining if and where the controller is broken: I have a DMM a...

Just want to let you know that I am using a pack of 16 A123 32113, and I am very satisfied with it. I am quite sure they are not legit. The weld job sure it's machine made, but it is clearly done afterwards. The weld is extremely weak mechanically, especially at the aluminum side: you either need th...

Re: 18650 battery pack build Kepler style

Awesome job, Kepler! I had to do something similar but my results are waaay less high-quality than yours. My cells are in the 32113 format though, so I had to make as wide a box as possible (ended up with sthg like 10cm) and still the cells need to be installed slightly oblique.. The reason I'm writ...

Re: Controlling the acceleration of the motor

CAv3 provides current throttle and power throttle in addition to speed throttle. It's not acceleration (doing literally that would be obviously unfeasible: set a given acceleration, wait long enough, and voila' you are at supersonic speed) but practically quite near and probably what the OP meant. I...

Re: Bafang CST 500W Really Really Hot

I constantly run a Bafang CST uphill, at 48V 20A in hot weather it happens to become lukewarm, that's it. I'm in Italy too, so overheating based upon country can be safely excluded! Definitely a phase/hall combination issue. Actually I did have to swap them, but I have a Lyen controller, your is mos...

Re: Conductivity improving grease project

Well, viscosity is a property of fluids, and sure enough everything can be in a sense considered a fluid. However, with the asi70 grease paste being said by the spec sheet to "retain its consistency and properties" between 50°C and 200°C, I take it there is no need to measure its viscosity! Overall,...

Re: CA v2 and speed control

Agreed! In my own case, I had very well in mind the pros and the cons, only problem being that my optimum was spot on the middle between a slower winding and a faster. But, generally speaking, and without the intention to relieve sellers from their responibility, I don't think it's overly complicate...
