Re: 50cc auto scooter conversion to electric (with video)

Thanks Malcolm maybe I will have a chat with the local office to see what gives and report back. I don't really see why they should be to worried about the tax class and missing out, as they would be getting my money anyway instead of nothing if the fuel details were changed to electric ( isn't all ...

Re: 50cc auto scooter conversion to electric (with video)

Hi Malcolm, Yes I have seen that section on the v5 but there lies the problem it needs a current MOT to be able to tax it :? . Im not sure if my local garage was spinning me a line or not about not being able to MOT the scoot but it did make sense what the guys were telling me, they did say it could...

Re: 50cc auto scooter conversion to electric (with video)

re: red tape I had the same deal twice now and finally got a letter back from dvla saying they won't change to electric because it would change the tax class. The only way to do it . Is to mot the bike as electric, then get the tax disk, then send it all off to dvla. I have not managed to mot my bi...

Re: 50cc auto scooter conversion to electric (with video)

I sent the logbook off with a little note saying what I have done to the scoot to try and get it re-reged as a elecy scoot but the logbook just got sent back to me unchanged and no explanation as to why ...

Re: Electric Peugeot JetForce conversion

Yes, but how was the acceleration? Mine did take the speed, but acceleration was very poor and motor's power draw was only 1-2kW, as it was running on max rpm all the time. My power limit was at 6kW, but still it drew only 1-2kW due to maxed-out rpms. Especially this was seen in uphills: maxed-out ...

Re: Electric Peugeot JetForce conversion

did you try it under load? I.e. while accelerating, not with lifted wheel spinning freely in the air. Yes I was riding it around on some "private" roads it cruised at round 35-40mph So i know the rpm from the motor was the limiting factor ( 8000 rpm) for the max speed, I did start looking into chan...

Re: Electric Peugeot JetForce conversion

Yeah, but one small issue: variator does not work with electric motor due to constant tension. The belt just does not climb up under load, even with tripled weights. This was the main reason to ditch it. The issue also applies to NuVinci CVT hub. Both tested and dealt with by me. Interesting :? I d...

Re: The queerbox - idea for gears for a non-hub drive

Im glad its working out, the whole pushing the bike backwards was a major body blow for me ( Im still working on a solution ) but im sure for normal riding and may be some light off road it would not be a problem for 99% of people, well done for getting this up and running. How quick do it shift gea...

Re: Electric Peugeot JetForce conversion

Uhm, why run the electric power through the variator? This is just losses (like 20-30%) when it comes to this application. Swings and roundabouts its, its no where near 20-30% losses through a variator ( by my testing ) but it is lossy, on the plus side you dont need such a big controller or motor ...

Re: 3 speed freewheels

This one at least appears to maintain the required narrow width of a SS freewheel. 22t, 19t, 16t http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=64523 I think Chainreaction have started selling a cheapversion of a 3 speed screw on freewheel. That appears to be the case, Watson.... :) ...

Re: Current Cycles Prototype Buildlog...

I just got the shafts and bearings. Look nice and the tolerances are great! I should have something to show after the weekend! I will try to hit it hard for the three day weekend and get this thing up and running, albeit with only three phases working since I still need to make a new Hall sensor se...

Re: Current Cycles Prototype Buildlog...

OK Thud, I ordered the shafts you suggested, along with the needed bearings for them, hopefully they work out well. Do you think I need to harden them? I was considering getting all the set screw divots drilled in them and then hardening them along with the gears using the oil quench method. What d...

Whiplash, gwhy, Tell me about bearings used on your bikes - what size tubing (ID/OD), & what size cartridge bearings you fellas are utilizing for your pivot points. I was going to just use a steel bushing with a zerk fitting, but I might as well go all the way for my swingarm pivot. BTW, a friend o...

Re: RedBull's "Silent Ride" with Adam Raga

The uphill wheelie across the small creek at 1:22 mark seems to me to be good display of both torque and riding skill. The log crossing at 1:36, the uphill wheelie turn at 1:57 and everything from 2:23 to 2:37 qualify as "skilled riding" in my opinion. You need to check out some other vids of raga ...

That video does nothing to display this dudes riding Skill set on a trial's bike........but beautiful cinimatography. Yep, nothing there to show us if this has the torque required for trial, and everything edited so we can't hear it. Still, I want to believe, that gives me the push to build one. :w...

Re: Issues sorting out phase timing

the way I do it ( done it) is to connect the phase wires ( just have a random guess ) the swap the hall connectors round until it runs and sounds right ( no load, low current, a small hub I would have thought should be no more than 1A wot ) if the motor is running the wrong way after you found a nic...
