Re: Speed record with scooter requirements?

100 MPH on a stand up scooter? Make sure you have good medical insurance. Also, seriously consider investing in an airbag equipped race suite like the one of Alpinstars Tech Air Race compatible suits (+ the actual Tech Air Race vest, of course), or Dainese Misano.

Re: Vespa PX125 (Large Frame) Electric Conversion.

Two of the three low-beam elements in the LED headlamp have failed, leaving me to rely on the high beam 100% of the time. The high beam is real narrow. The whole assembly is no longer suitable for night riding (hard to avoid on these short winter days). So, I bought a new Vespa H4 reflector from Sco...

That wire is listed as "solid", you don't want solid wire, you want stranded.

Re: New build

Those SPIM08HP cells are impressive. I'm thinking about build a pack for my Ryobi electric riding mower with them.
I like the bolt-together nature of them. Plus, they have damed impressive current capability.

I'm definitely looking forward to see where this goes!

Re: 1957 Lambretta LD 150 EV conversion

Resistor is quite knowledgeable. I know Jim also got advice from him during his build. I'm building the swing arm myself. Don't know what i'm doing yet but i have a welder and an angle grinder. I'm not afraid, i have good life insurance. :D :D :D Here's my work from home desk. My head is always turn...

Subscribed. I'm sure you've probably seen it already, or the thread over on modern vespa, but, if not, check out the build that JimVonBaden did of my VespaLectric, https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=109761 (I purchased it from him after he completed, and will continue to refi...

Re: 4kw QS hub motor - More power

I have an Vespa with a 4kw QS hub motor and a 72v/38ah battery. (build thread here: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=109761 ). It tops out at 100km/h, and cruises quite nicely at 80km/h. It has a Kelly KMS7245 controller. If you can't change the programming on the controlle...

Re: New Project: 1961 CB77 Superhawk

You'll need closer 120ah of battery for 90 miles range at 40-45 mph. I've got a converted Vespa P125X with a 4kw QS205 hub motor, and a 38ah 72V battery. 30 is the safe range for it at those speeds. I know you already have the CB77 in hand, but, a CB160 would be a lighter weight bike to start with, ...

Re: Aprilia RS50 with 4kW QS-motor 17" rim

my intended top speed is 80kmh but i think it will be a bit faster. My Vespa EV conversion (built by Jim VonBaden, build thread here: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=109761 ) has a 4kw QS205 motor. Its stop speed is 100 kph. That said, the Vespa has 10" wheels, not 1...

Re: Vespa PX125 (Large Frame) Electric Conversion.

I've noticed that I'm seeing a 10 volt voltage sag on the displayed voltage on the battery monitor panel when at a heavy throttle drawing 150 amps. That is a LOT of wasted power and heat generation -- 1500 watts! I've not yet determined how much of this is in the battery, and how much is wiring and ...

Re: Vespa PX125 (Large Frame) Electric Conversion.

So, in an attempt to get the most life out of the battery, I set the BMS to stop charging at 82V (90%). The other say, I learned one unintended consequence of that is that the regen braking doesn't work until you run the battery down at least a little bit. This is a bit disconcerting as I've gotten ...

Re: Voltage drop off and your KWH per mile

I have a theory why the batter discharges faster as the SOC goes down. My QS205 powered Vespa has a 72V battery. 100% SOC is 84V, 50% SOC is about 72V, and 0% SOC 60V. The motor controller will draw as many amps needed to produce the power being asked for. As volts go down, amps go up. If power dema...

Re: Vespa PX125 (Large Frame) Electric Conversion.

I took Resistor's advice (on the ModernVespa thread). I set the battery current limit to 40 (was 60 when I first got it from Jim), and the phase current percent to 60 (was 110). That reduced max acceleration slightly with > 25% DOC, but had no affect on top speed. As SOC got below 25-33%, top speed ...

Re: Vespa PX125 (Large Frame) Electric Conversion.

I'm going to have consider cooling the battery on this build. Up until today, the highest temperature I've seen externally on the pack has been about 43C (110F). Being a large, dense pack, the temperature of the cells toward the middle must be much higher. I may need to put some thermocouples in the...

The VespaLectric is definitely quicker off the line than the GTS250ie. The GTS250ie has a higher top end speed.

Re: Vespa PX125 (Large Frame) Electric Conversion.

The VespaLectric begins a new chapter. As Jim contemplates his next electric conversion adventure, I made the drive to the nation's capital yesterday to take possession of the VespaLectric, and become its new caretaker. I took it for a short test ride while there, and can definitely say that this th...
