Re: Hill Climbing eBike

Full Sideways View.jpg Just thought I'd get an image in good (moderate) light conditions. Yesterday I did the tedious job of grinding the chainring inserting nuts down from double ring to single ring. Could I have driven to a local bike shop and gotten the correct size? Yes. But tedious grinding is...

20 Tooth Heavy Sprocket Base.jpg This is the "guts" of a cheap 20 tooth sprocket. Lot's of heavy useless metal. Even the ring that does nothing but secure the threaded cups is built like a tank. It looks like with some effort this could be reduced in weight about 25% making it more compar...

Shut up and pay. I have a 12S SPIM08hp pack. Just be aware the listed specifications are when the battery cells are warmed up. These cells are practically supercapacitors when warm, but when cold they lose at least half their capability. This means that you will typically want to do a short warmup ride first to drai...

We should distinguish between what was called "Smog" and what is regular CO2 the plants breathe to be healthy and green. "Smog" was the thing back in the 1960's and 1970's that pissed everyone off because it made the sky brown. Los Angeles in the 1960's had horrible Smog. But tod...

Looks like a heavy dirt bike tire, rim setup. Who would have thought Say whaaaaaaaaaaat? 10lb difference It's not weight because I can lift the bike and it weighs nothing. No... it's like Fat Bike tires with big knobbies only worse. Every time you roll the knobbies are so huge the wheel is going up...

Famous words It actually worked pretty well... the chain was silent and didn't fall off. The gear ratio is better suited for about 15 mph which might be a little high for a Hill Climbing eBike that would need the pedal assistance at lower speed. Well, that's at least my speculation. Rather than goi...

This looks doable.

Switch to the 48 tooth sprocket... then a chain tensioner that attaches to the motor mount bolts looks to be a no brainer.

Should be easy.

Noise of the chain slapping the frame is of no real concern unless you are using the ebike for hunting, for your hill climb to the weed store ebike noise shouldnt be a problem. If anything, to long then use a pulley to clear tubes or route the chain where you want it routed. It's a matter of person...

Sometimes a ghost sprocket can work well enough for testing. Originally I had planned to use a 48 tooth sprocket but then started to think this 38 tooth might be nice because it would be easier to get the bike going from zero. The 48 tooth would have placed my pedal power in alignment with the peak...

Bottom Bracket is Installed !!!

Next will be finding some way to tension the chain.

Everything seems aligned enough to work.

I can't fully ride it because the chain falls off, but the suspension feels soft but good.

All okay so far.

23 strands 6 turns means 138 strands in the slot. Assuming you use the SAME strand thickness then: 138 strands overall divided by 5 turns means 27.6 strands... hmmm... So here you must decide... Do you think you can push it to 28 strands making 140 strands overall or do you relax and drop down to 27...

I did have a mild cough that lasted around 6 weeks. The first day was the only scary part as I got the fear and panic sensation of not being sure I could breathe.
