Re: Do you use an fairing or partial fairing on your ebike, emoped or BSM?

I can't believe this topic still goes on and on and on even though we had 10 pages and the people trolling about low center of gravity hurts stability clearly lost. MadRhino wrote a very easy to comprehend post that seems to have resolved all the confusion. And I actually did not know that about Tr...

Re: Do you use an fairing or partial fairing on your ebike, emoped or BSM?

I'll gladly internalise any new model if it seems better than one I currently have - but you are not making it easy with what amounts to condescension trolling. Fair enough. I thought MadRhino made an interesting point about Trials bikes in that they are purposely designed to go the other direction...

Re: Do you use an fairing or partial fairing on your ebike, emoped or BSM?

Are you absolutely sure that supposed high CG of a motoGP bike is a design choice, not an (undesired) consequence of other design contraints? That's what I've been trying to tell you and it appears the other guy just explained it better. And the terms get confused here. When I say "Handling&qu...

Re: Do 100mph bikes exist??

MotoGP bikes are now getting up to 220+ mph on the straight sections on the faster tracks. I figure going 1/10 that speed is enough fun for me. At 10 mph the typical bicyclist can get around without protective gear. At 20 mph you probably should have gloves and a helmet. At 30 mph it's time to put o...

Re: Do you use an fairing or partial fairing on your ebike, emoped or BSM?

...a rolling bike's point of contact is the part that swings across the surface. Low center of mass impairs both maneuverability and control, because you either end up having to swing a large fraction of the bike's mass across the surface to establish a lean angle (mass concentrated at the high and...

Re: How do you feel about your state's moped laws?

The nearest arterial to my house is full of people's houses, schools, parks, churches, libraries, community centers etc., but folks drive on it like it's an intercity highway. I've never once seen someone pulled over there for speeding. The best I can do is ride on it and let drivers consider slowi...

Re: How do you feel about your state's moped laws?

The roads should be split, one lane in each direction for automobiles motorcycles and trucks and the other 2 lanes for everyone else bicycles, velomobiles, small electric transport that just might be the conversion that will happen. You just cant trust drivers to change lanes so you frock them over...

No, but we can agree this is a great strawman though. I stand by my post as it was solid. You are 100% in error and seem unwilling to even consider the basis of the error. But no one PAYS you any money to think right? I mean it's not like you are building anything that's going to cause harm to othe...

Re: How do you feel about your state's moped laws?

We don't need separate roads; they are our roads too. Separate, as history has showed us, isn't equal. Here's what I see... The truly "residential" roads tend to be 25 mph and those are the ones you ride on with little traffic worries. Those 35 mph streets tend to be feeder routes to some...

Re: How do you feel about your state's moped laws?

That would be a good opportunity for protected bike lane (I.e. class 4 bike lane). My ebike is designed with wider tires and they are very capable of absorbing bumps up to a point. When you get to speeds in excess of 28 mph and hit a bump you really start to need suspension. And then you start addi...

Re: How do you feel about your state's moped laws?

Everyone, even folks on horses where I live, has a right to use the general traffic lane. If drivers have to slow down, they have to slow down. It's not wrong; it's just the deal when we all share the same roads. My point was that a freeway is designed to permit speeds that are radically higher tha...

Re: How do you feel about your state's moped laws?

City planning is important, but who is going to want to use class 2 bike lanes and class 3 bike routes if their transportation struggles up a hill? A moped is a two passenger vehicle and should be able to climb any hill at a timely and efficient speed or else people will not consider it and instead...

Re: Rewinding a 15470 outrunner

Which line would be the closest to the typical silicon electric steel in common motors? 5? I think you get it. Yes... you pay more up front to get the higher peak and also pay more on the way out. That's hysteresis. This is why I'm saying for continuous power the permendur laminations would be horr...

Re: How do you feel about your state's moped laws?

:?: What about posted speed limits? If a street has a posted speed limit of 25 mph then a Class 3 ebike or a moped should be able to get around without causing any blockage to others. But if the street has a posted limit of 35 mph or higher there is no way for the "micro bikes" to be up to...

Re: How do you feel about your state's moped laws?

That is my exact experience too, they aren't looking at their own speed. It is better to let them (the dummies) pass as you said (good advice); but sometimes that is easier said than done in the moment. My area has golf courses and lot's of golf carts driving on the streets as well as an increasing...

Using the example I did in my previous post a 749 watt mid drive Class 3 road ebike which uses the bicycle gears to transmit power gets 27 mph on the same course (using the same 157 lb rider). And keep in mind Power "Out" and Power "In" are different. Assuming 750 watts "Ou...

Re: How do you feel about your state's moped laws?

My advice is, get used to dummies in cars passing you. It won't kill you, though turning your speed up to match theirs might. I operate within a very controlled retirement community with old people. Re: How do you feel about your state's moped laws?

And how would the average speed of a purely human powered bike compare to the average speed of a moped with 4,000 watt continuous and 10,000+ watt peak power (but limited to a top speed of 28 mph) on a hilly course? The Class 3 ebike rules are a real blessing in my opinion. Trying to limit an ebike...

It is hard to get the right gears to be able to pedal 30mph 58t crank and 11t or 12t rear.
Which is why the ebike is a 28 mph device.

My ebike is restricted in the motor to 28 mph.
