How to make gears quieter: Use High-Precision Gears Reduce the pitch error, tooth profile error, runout error and lead error. Grind teeth to improve the accuracy as well as the surface finish. Use a Better Surface Finish on Gears Grinding, lapping and honing the tooth surface, or running in gears in...

Re: Luna Cycle X-1 Enduro FS (Bafang M600 / Dengfu M09)

I've ridden an Ultra with the plastic gear and I'd say it's slightly louder than the BBSHD with the plastic gear. Both are very quiet and hard to hear any noise. Even my direct drive hub motor with a sine wave controller makes as much noise at certain speeds.

Sur Ron takes 2nd place in a Hare Scramble. Looks like he would have taken 1st with a bit more juice.
Great riding skill! I'm getting too old for that kind of speed.

Comparisons are also good. The BBSHD does make some noise, but on mine it is very hard to hear unless you are on smooth pavement giving full throttle. I also got a chance to ride a Spitzing M1, which is a $10,000+ German ebike. The Spitzing was way louder than the X-1 at any speed with a very notice...

Another trick is if you pedal backward, the motor will stop instantly. This is especially useful on a technical off road trail to keep from getting launched over the side of a cliff.

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Hey guys, does the motor disengage during gear changes? I just rode a custom e bike today with a Bafang Mid Drive 48v1000w kit installed and it was quite jarring how the motor cut out when I changed gears... THanks If the gear change sensor is installed, yes, it cuts the power when you shift to pre...

I tried learning Fusion 360 a while ago but realized it was going to take more time than I had available. I still want to lean it or some similar CAD program so I can make 3D printed parts and fun stuff like that. Once I retire in a couple of years, I hope to have more spare time.

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

There is a 12v signal that powers the backlight on the battery display, and there is a signal going to the controller that bumps it into EP mode if the battery temp gets too high or if the voltage gets too low. The bike runs fine with this connector disconnected but would not go into EP mode if the...

Re: Luna Cycle X-1 Enduro FS (Bafang M600 / Dengfu M09)

I got a chance to ride a X-1 over the weekend. I paid careful attention to the noise. Just starting out from a stop with full power, I could hear a little whine, but as soon as I reached about 10mph, it was totally drowned out by the wind/tire noise. While not quite as silent as a BBSHD, it is not l...

Yes, a pot is a potentiometer.

A nice reflective bike cover would help keep the battery cool when parked in the sun. I agree that an active cooling system would likely not be worth the effort.

Can someone tell me plz what this connector is good for, maybe how the wiring works there and if I need this connection to go to my sabvoton 72200 controller. Re: Help ID compounds on Strain Gauge in hub motor? - photo

Both silly putty and dielectric grease are non conductive. And the strain gauge is a fairly low resistance resistor, so it would take something really conductive to mess it up. The most important thing is to get a good bond between the strain gauge and the metal. What goes over it shouldn't effect i...

Ok. This should do better for connectors in the beta units.
That looks pretty good to me. Much better than the separate end board.

Re: How to wire a key switch properly? (for main power)

Most ebikes just have the battery always connected to the controller and only switch the low current "key" or "ignition" line. If you want to store the bike for a long time, unplug the controller.

Re: BBSHD Controller not programmable

I've had problems with some of the FTDI USB adapters. The Bafang controller needs the "low" signal to be really low, like less than 0.3v, but some of the adapters don't pull down low enough. In one case I was able to make one work by adding a 10k resistor from the TX line to ground to make it go a l...

Re: 3WD hybrid GO-4 project

Any idea how much a GO4 weighs? They look pretty heavy. It's going to take a really big electric motor to make that thing move. If you get it dialed in right, you should be able to go full power on both gas and electric to get some impressive acceleration. Controlling the regen may be a bit challeng...

At least one person did a Phaserunner on a BBSHD. If you search around you should be able to find it. You may need the metal gear at higher power levels.

Re: BMS problems

Don't use the C- port. Mine has that too. Under normal conditions, the resistor can be pretty small like1/4W. If you have a shorted controller, the resistor will just smoke and be like a fuse. A larger wattage one won't hurt as long as it fits in the space. It doesn't matter much which way the resis...

My last rain was in May. Now forecast shows a chance Wednesday Night A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. West wind 6 to 10 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Then back to sunny and warm. Things are very dry now.
