Re: Ampera/Volt inverter with Lebowski brain

Sounds sketchy AF. The most reliable way is to make sure the igbts are paralleled at the igbt. Not running two 3phase Inverters then paralleling the outputs.

Re: Tesla Model 3

L2 Is slow charging in most cases and you will be hard pressed to find data that shows L1 is any better for the battery then L2. You'd have to define L2 though. If I remember correctly, standard permits up to 19kW charging with L2, while L1 will be something like 1.2kW. For 24kW Leaf or 13kW Zero t...

Re: Tesla Model 3

Its also much worse to keep your battery close to 100% SOC. So charging from L2 1 time a week to 90% or something is much better for it then to charge to 90% every night from L1. And charging to 80% via level 1 overnight is better still. Also no matter the socket the more you connect and disconnect...

Re: Tesla Model 3

Its not recommended to rely on a L1 (15a 120Vac outlet) You will wear out the connections and your cable as well its super slow for charging when you really don't want it to be. We have 42 Level 1 chargers, in use 8-10 hours a day, 250 days a year. No "wearing out" the connections. You have to use ...

Re: Tesla Model 3

There are a quarter billion cars registered in the US When all those go electric... some number will be able to charge at home. MANY will not. Most people will be able to charge at home. Here, even apartment buildings are putting in level 1 chargers (fancy name for an outlet) in their dedicated par...

Re: Thread for new battery breakthrough PR releases

Not saying it's not likely a scam, but being 48Vdc doesn't mean you can't be a supercar. If I were currently building an unlimited budget build targeting maximum performance in an all weather capability vehicle, I would targeting 20-21s cells maximum. When EV tech matures beyond copying 1990s indus...

Canadian money would be as plastic as your polyester shirts. It's still textile/fabric.
No no you are not correct on this at all.

You can see through it. Its plastic even snaps in 1/2 in the -30 or colder temps in northern Canada

Re: Bitcoins

Bitcoin's going up again. Fool me twice, shame on me.. i am not participating. It still has no value and no real use case. I may find myself doing server ops for a crypto mine again, who knows.. I was about to say paper had no value... Then I realized how we have cut down over 1/2 the worlds forest...

Re: Ampera/Volt inverter with Lebowski brain

Amber you just need to know phase to phase resistance. All you do is flow power in 1 phase wire and out another leaving the third unhooked.

Re: VESC-controller: Axiom hardware released!

In this case we might need to open the circuit between the controller and the battery. I mean that opening the circuit with the fuse or the contactors takes some time (tens of ms-s or more), and the semiconductors (antiparallel diode in forward conduction) may fail faster than that. Can't tell for ...

Re: VESC-controller: Axiom hardware released!

I understand the fuse, but I find it risky to rely on it to protect the IGBT at the uncontrolled current: maybe the IGBT blows before the fuse. But I don't know IGBT-s, I play only with FETs around 100V, and if I wanted to change to a higher voltage power stage to increase rpm, I would also reconfi...

Re: Ampera/Volt inverter with Lebowski brain

Best is to use a current limited supply, but else a 12V car battery with a lightbulb will do. Measure current and voltage across motor and apply Ohms law. Use 2 motor terminals (leave 3rd one open), divide resistance by two for the star equivalent resistance value Oh yeah now I know what you are up...

Guys I want to boost 50V to 117V for a range extending pack for my Zeros. Think this will work?
Mine has 150v rated parts. Anyone notice the second spot for a second diode that's not populated?

Re: VESC-controller: Axiom hardware released!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the pwm stops in FW mode and the BEMF becomes so high that the phase-to-phase voltage exceeds the battery voltage then the antiparallel diodes start to conduct at the sine wave peaks at an uncontrollable high current. Isn't it true? If it is so, then the higher volta...

Damn you guys are kicking ass! Field weakening has been a long time wanted feature for the VESC platform. Would you be able to tell us some of the downsides to field weakening besides the drop off of torque? You need to be carefull as you can run into a situation where the back EMF is greater then ...
