Re: I need an electric TOAD....

Would the "tennis ball on an antenna" trick work to help line up the hitch? Probably help but from what craneplaneguy describes it sounds like precision alignment is critical and there's literally no "wiggle room". I know my dad got pretty good hitching the 4X4 but I might try an RC camera and vide...

Re: I need an electric TOAD....

Good description of life with a TOAD. Thanks! Definitely sounds like some RC video stuff might come in handy? Not only to monitor what’s happening inside the TOAD but I bet a tow bar camera would help line things up similar to docking spacecraft or mid-air refueling? My dad often TOAD his F250 Power...

Re: I need an electric TOAD....

Yes, I do have solar but only about 100W at the moment. More to follow once I figure out what to do with an internet satellite dish on the roof I no longer need/want. Good to know about reversing TOADs in practice. Maybe I’ll just tow a 500E in D with the seatbelt latched and avoid Reverse? Let rege...

Re: I need an electric TOAD....

The possibilities/opportunities would be truly incredible for electric TOADs. An ideal marriage if there ever was one - RV’s with generator, towing capabilities, and need for battery power storage, etc. Excellent way to explore/test home-vehicle energy interfaces in these early stages of R&D.

Re: I need an electric TOAD....

Flat towing needs the wheels to steer i believe ? How does a tow bracket forcing the wheels to steer affect electric/hydraulic steering systems on EVs ? Good question. Majority of highway miles never really turn the front wheels so I don’t think it would be too much of a problem. I know some TOAD p...

Re: I need an electric TOAD....

Does any EV have a "neutral" drive position ?? I dont know of any, and wonder what the implications of extended tow/driving of the motor. At the least i would expect considerable drag, and probably heat generated in the windings.....but maybe worse ? :? Maybe a simple 2wheel, braked, tow dolly woul...

Re: Which connectors for quick disconnect for front hub moto

When I don’t splice phase power wires I normally use 4mm gold Bullet RC connectors. Sometimes the red hard housings and sometimes a concoction of shrink wrap to insulate them - staggering also helps maintain a thinner exterior connector package too. Hall Sensor wiring is usually something light gaug...

I need an electric TOAD....

We’re seriously shopping a TOAD (tow behind RV) car and we’re only considering full electric. I believe the LEAF might be able to be flat towed with some careful preparations? But, finding a tow bar bracket seems next to impossible. Versa bracket might work but there’s strong chance it won’t? My fav...

I suppose I should follow up 7 years later and report that the Nilar went back when they started failing after only a few cycles. I don't remember what or why they failed but the company refunded my money once I returned them. They even sent me the prepaid return label, IIRC? Nilar was very easy to ...

Re: Throttle Hall Sensor replacement?

In the 10 years I've been using the cheapest Hall sensor throttles I can find I've probably only had one sensor fail. Most failures have been either damage from hitting something, plastic fatigue coming apart, loose magnets, etc.

I'm with Alan that something else may be going on here?

Quick follow up, Post Office accepted my well packaged 8qty 5Ah 4S packs and 1qty 5Ah 6S pack for ground shipment NY-CA. Dad sent me Honey Baked Ham for Christmas so I used that serious styrofoam container and sturdy box. Everything wrapped well in bubble wrap and fortunately got the same counter gu...

Re: Throttle Hall Sensor replacement?

I've never replaced just the variable Hall sensor in a throttle. I've only reworked switching type found in some motors.

But, component parameters should be fairly simple to specify. 5V power, 1-4V signal range, seems simple enough.

Re: Throttle Hall Sensor replacement?

$25 is too much and obviously not very good quality. I buy the cheap $5 thumb throttles and rarely have much trouble with ‘em http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&LH_BIN=1&_nkw=e+bike+thumb+throttle&_sop=15 The only negative effect of water ingress I've suffered is sometimes an inadvert...

Homeless sleep everywhere in NYC but often on the subways when it’s very cold or stormy out. One of my 1st lessons here was the wise older black lady waiting for a train together says: “empty car’s always the smelly one” as morning rush A train pulled in with every car packed except one. Doors open,...

Ykick, you got me... So Ron, you’ve ridden much in Manhattan? I have actually driven through Manhattan in a car, and visited on foot on several occasions. I've read it's very flat, and it "seemed" very flat. I worked for Ohio Hazardous Materials/OHM as a laborer on the anthrax cleanup of the New Je...

Re: Lawnmower batteries for ebikes?

I've got one of the 4Ah EGO packs. The stock charger is HUGE but they can be charged through the output port using other chargers. Connections can be kinda skanky since it's all proprietary plastic hardware. Search in my posts "lawn" "tool" "packs" and there's probably more detail that I'm unable to...

Re: BMS On/Off switch wires?

So before every ride I have to stick the charger in? No. The BMS I've used with on/off switch worked normally as expected after the initial connections to the battery and a shot from a charger. But if you ever disconnect the battery from the BMS it will require a shot of charge before it will work ...

@AstroKat - Ditto what DogMan said but notice I didn’t bring it up here the OP did. Asked and answered as best as I know how. Once you develop a healthy set of thighs, you don't need any gears in flat Manhattan. Therefore...many of the bike messengers have a couple cheap single-speed bikes. Re: BMS On/Off switch wires?

Have you tried pushing a charge into the pack through BMS? Some of the BMS with on/off switch I’ve used needed a brief charge current to “activate” the circuit. Dunno why but that’s how the BMS w/switch behaved for me? What do you mean by a brief charge? connecting the switch wire to the + wire or ...
