Re: Commuter suggestion BBSHD vs MAC

I'm not trying to pin you down but buyers have a habit of finding these threads and from well respected sources and then expect 37MPH. IMO 32MPH with a 52V battery is more realiz=atic and with a 20Ah battery for the first few AH after which I'd expect some degradation in top speed. At least with th...

Re: What's the point of 1000+W ebikes ?

On multilane road with traffic lights and 45 MPH posted speed limits I like to ride 28-30MPH. That speed seems to work out perfectly to about 1000W. Long, stupidly steep hills? I find 1000W can keep my 230lbs ass hauling up steep grades 12-16MPH and that's not even using my lowest granny gear. There...

Re: Commuter suggestion BBSHD vs MAC

True, but the issue is how long can it do 37mph? Which BBSHD can do 37MPH? Battery? None of the three I had, one left still riding, were that fast. Thanks! Interested to know which version software and battery. 37MPH might be a little optimistic but I didn't want to quibble over a couple MPH. Many ...

Re: Bafang DPC 14 display with 52 Volt Battery

The DPC-14 56V limitation receives much more attention than it deserves IMO. Load applied it usually drops below 56V and the volt meter itself is fairly accurate. It's just one of things which bothers some folks because they know the pack is 58V and the dash volt meter only displays 56V. "The sky is...

Re: Commuter suggestion BBSHD vs MAC

Just to clarify my BBSHD will easily do 37mph. I haven't had it faster then that, but I suspect it'll do 40. Nothing against the Mac, just wanted to iterate that the BBSHD can be faster than 28. True, but the issue is how long can it do 37mph? No matter what "type" system you need about 1000W const...

Re: hub drive vs mid drive

As far as mid-drive vs hub motor torque just go drive a 5-speed manual transmission car in 3rd gear all of the time. A better example would be to drive a Tesla. Gas motors have very limited torque bands; electric motors do not. (And Teslas are always in the same gear.) That is a good point however ...

Re: Best Self-Defense for a Lady on an eBike?

It used to be called a housing crisis but it’s more like a housing catastrophe. I’ve noticed many large encampments driving along the 57 next to Anaheim stadium for several months now. I wondered when it would be addressed. Typical government "hired contractors" they'll just toss out the easy ones a...

Re: hub drive vs mid drive

As far as mid-drive vs hub motor torque just go drive a 5-speed manual transmission car in 3rd gear all of the time. A bigger engine will help but it’s always going to be a compromise. Now drive that same manual transmission with all 5 gears available. Much easier, eh? In fact, a very small engine c...

15S sucks too. It's neither Fish nor Foul for most eBike systems. These continue to work great for me in 12S - https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-5000mah-4s1p-14-8v-20c-hardcase-pack.html But that's not quite the industry 48V (13S) For hub motor systems 16S can work nicely if using custom aftermark...

Re: What will it take to make ebikes, More mainstream ?

As far as that goes, people drive from one store to the next in a strip mall, taking more time finding a new parking spot a few dozen feet from the old one than doing the actual shopping in the store. (certainly more time than just walking from the first store to the next). Granted that it's...

How much distance between battery pack and controller?

TBH, I've never found need for 10ga wire.

12ga is what I run 40A service from a trailer using several feet of 12ga wire.

Re: Cordless tool battery pack discharge byself in one week

Open it up enough to measure cell groups and look for one drained into the low 3V region? If the BMS uses balancing circuit there's a strong chance the bleed resistor is somehow turned ON thus killing the attached cell or group. Shorted balance switching transistor is common problem. When you have i...

Re: Lost BBSHD Crank arm bolt-Alternatives

Never maiden and/or ride any new Bafang mid drive install without carrying 8mm Allen wrench. They do become loose in the 1st few miles of use but with simple re-tightening they'll eventually remain snug. But if you allow them to get loose and run loose, they'll never be the same and nearly impossibl...

Re: Fiat 500e Frenzy

Ykick, those cars are small enough I'd get or build a nice low two wheel or tandem wheel ramp trailer to carry it on. Much nicer to tow a trailer that you can actually back up, probably about the same drag on the tow vehicle, no wear and tear on the hauled vehicle, no special tow bar etc. required,...

I've been eyeing one as TOAD behind an RV. Test drove a couple and really liked them but stalled on whether I could get away with flat towing? Re: Balancing a grossly imbalanced 14s14p 18650 battery

OP - check to make sure the balancing circuit isn't ON due to a defective switching transistor. This is often why cell banks go out of balance in the 1st place. In other words, the bleed resistors are only supposed to on to drain charge from the highest voltage cells. If/when the switching transisto...

While it’s true more people are currently adopting eBikes for transportation I don’t believe it will ever become the huge “hit” that some folks predict it will become. Re: 5.5mm barrel male to xt60 male cable suggestions sought

There appears to be 2mm and 2.1mm center pins/contacts in play within 5.5mm barrel connector family. Normally not a huge deal but if pushing the current limits (most barrels were never intended for more than a couple Amps) it may create high resistance and that could lead to more problems.

Good luck frame mounting. Too much bouncing, vibration and coupled audio when mounted to most places I've tried on a bike. Chesty harness or helmet mount is my preferred method of action cam mounting. The former is the best IMO. You can often see the handlebars from that perspective.

Good points and 'can say I pick vegetation from my mid-drive system every once in a while. All it would take is a sturdy little branch jammed into the derailleur and prove to be a much bigger problem.
