Re: Battery configuration, bad idea? 11S using 2S

You don't need a BMS. Does your controller have a programable LVC? Thats what I use and I have it programmed a tad higher then the minimum for my setup. I would trust that or standalone LVC setup as amberwolf said.

Re: 18FET 84-132V Infineon controller from Lyen - poor quali

I'm not sure how much work Lyen actually does to the controllers when he gets them or the parts. A few years ago when I bought mine from him; I believe he was buying the boards with the SMT components Pre soldered from the factory. Then he would add/solder all the though-hole components, wires etc.....

Re: Melted my Anderson power poles together

Also I have run into other problems with andersons. They also get pretty warm if you use them as the connection between the battery and the controller. I have worried before about this connection melting, but never my charger cable connection. Every time I connect the battery to the controller ther...

There may be something wrong with the meter then. If you are using the motor, etc... you should see all those values changing. :(

Re: Couple Questions Google can't answer

yep, throwing away good junk is a pet peeve of mine. it gets worse: when i worked for HP, our IC fab used these big 15 hp vacuum pumps for the furnace tubes where we did the chemical vapor depostion. when they moved equipment like these pumps, the electricians would pull new wire bundles to the loc...

Re: Couple Questions Google can't answer

Unless you are going to run 80 amps constantly, you don't need that heavy of gauge. I cruise anywhere from 5 to 25 amps depending on the speed. You Will be fine with 12AWG or 10AWG. And yes the shorter the circuit the better! I buy my wire from this guy, 3 feet of black and 3 feet of red in a pack. ...

Re: Lifepo4, never below voltage?

I came from the RC world before here, and I never took lipo's down below 3.0V per cell. Even the discharge option in my RC chargers are 3.0V..... 2.7V may be on the wild side... I have had a A123 Cylindrical cell (lifePO4) that I bought used and the voltage was down to 1.2V or 1.4V I can't remember ...

The 12 fet controller is already 45amps. 50 is not much more, and not really worth upgrading the traces.

Re: Simple balancing question

I tested some out last night, each clear LED i have draws about .035 amps off the 1S, 3.6V peaked. So two of them will be close enough. They are the ultra bright ones, I thought they were .020 amps each, but that may be at 3V. I'm guessing with the discharging of the cells the amp draw will change, ...

Here is what I did on my normal mountain bike. No problems with the chain comming off on bumpy downhills...

I belt sanded the teeth of the outter chain ring, and CNC'd out a custom plate to replace the smallest chain ring. Salsa 36T is the biggest they make for the middle ring.

Simple balancing question

Right now my Ebike has 3 6S packs, 1 4S pack and 1 1S pack. I am re-doing my charger setup and I wanted to combine the 1S to the 4S to make it so I only have 4 packs to charge. My problem is I run a 12V cooling fan off the 4S pack(around 14V hot). The cooling fan pulls .067 amps. If I run the fan of...

Re: Using RC quad charger to charge one 16S Lifepo pack

I'm actually in the process of doing the same thing but with 23 cells. The whole goal behind this is to not have to unplug each battery off the harness every time we have to charge. 1. You will need to have a on/off switch between the controller and the batteries so you can open the circuit before c...

Re: 18650 cells?

There are many things to consider like the losses thru the soldering or weld tabs. Exactly. I run 10AWG off the packs/controller and through most of the harness, and its only 3.5 feet long going through a switch. Technically I could make it 1 foot, but I wanted to have the power swtich at the handl...

Re: 18650 cells?

You just need to do the math when buying cells. Those cells you posted in the first post would be able to do 247amps cont in the 15P formation. 16500mah = 16.5AH x 15C = 247.5A You will need to cell match the packs and 15 in Parallel would be not worth messing with. You should find larger capacity c...

Re: Isolating 4 port charger questions (24S)

So I tested out 3 laptop AC adapters laying around here . All of them have the ground wire (L, N, G). Turns out all of them have continuity from the ground pin to the output tip. So you have to use AC adapters that only have 2 pins (L & N)(NEMA 1-15P or 1-15). This might rule out using computer ...

Thanks, Yes I want to charge all the packs at the same time still connected in series.

Do the power supplies have to be non grounded 2 connection AC (pos & neg) ? Or can they be 3 connection AC (positive, negative, ground) ?

Here's the diagrams just to see:

Re: upgrade noname controller

First off, You need to use flux when you solder and more heat, from the looks of what i see in your pic your connections are poor. Second it looks like you have (3) 680ohm resistors in parallel. (correct me if I'm wrong) When you put restors in parallel it makes it handle more watts, but the resista...
