Re: Efficiency. Geared vs Direct drive hub motors

The path was the Norwottuck rail trail from Northampton Mass to Amherst Mass round trip about 18 miles. No significant elevation till Amherst. I rode at almost the same speed with plenty of PAS (peddling) especially on the DD bike (Radcity) because I was worried of depleting the battery before I ret...

Efficiency. Geared vs Direct drive hub motors

I recently purchased two new ebikes. The Radpower Radcity and the Elux Newport. The Radcity is a direct drive 750 watt 48 volt 10 amp bike. The Elux Newport is a geared 750 watt 48 volt 10 amp bike. Both are almost the same weight and both ride great but the Newport (geared) motor ebike gets about a...

Re: RadCity size?

I'm thinking of purchasing the Radcity but not sure which size? For any bike that has a photo of it's side view available, and that you know the size of any component, you can determine all the dimensions, and figure out if it has adequate standover height. Since most at least list their wheelsize,...

Re: RadCity size?

I checked out the surface 640, great looking bike with decent specs and power. But emailed the Surface 640 company three times for questions about the motor--and no answers. Obviously poor customer service. Electric bike review commented Radcity size issues: " Ken Cooper 2 days ago I finally receive...

Re: RadCity size?

I spoke with the folks at Radpower and they suggested the 16"frame. One of the owners is 6ft and prefers the 16 inch. I'll stop by my local bike shop for their opinion. Yeah, buying a bike is like purchasing clothes, a large might not exactly be a large.

I'm thinking of purchasing the Radcity but not sure which size? It comes in 16" and 20" frame. I'm 5'10" with inseam 32 inches. Any suggestions? I prefer an upright position with adequate leg extension. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks. https://www.radpowerbikes.com/pages/radcity-technical-specs ...

Re: Car hitch for bike rack. Tongue weight-- Achilles heel

Thanks for the great advice. According to the instructions "GROSS LOAD CAPACITY WHEN USED AS A WEIGHT CARRYING HITCH: 2000 LBS. TRAILER WEIGHT & 200 LBS. TONGUE WEIGHT". Maybe I'm over concerned but America is very litigious, you can successfully sue a restaurant if you spill hot coffee on yourself....

Re: Car hitch for bike rack. Tongue weight-- Achilles heel

Does the tongue weight take into consideration Force? Force= mass x acceleration. What if I hit a large pothole or make a sharp turn, is tongue weight affected by force? Any Physicist or Engineers out there?

Car hitch for bike rack. Tongue weight-- Achilles heel

Any engineers out there? The tongue weight of a class two hitch is only 200 lbs. My ebike weighs about 40 lbs minus the battery and the hitch mounted bike rack weighs about 50 lbs so it doesn't give much wiggle room. I'm always worried about liability, nightmares of my bike rack failing as I driving...

Re: Radwagon Cargo bike

Problem solved!! Yeah, I feel stupid. The running board was pressing against the derailleur. I removed the running board, now shifts easier and doesn't autoshift under resistance. I'll add the running board after I've drilled some new holes in the wooden boards to adjust for clearance. Thanks for al...

Re: Radwagon Cargo bike

atxmarmot, glad to know your bike is running well. I'm satisfied with the bikes power but shifting is an issue. My Radwagon is new, purchased from the web so can't take it back to the company. I'll drop it off at the local bike shop to address the gears.

Re: First ebike, very excited!

Welcome to the Ebike world! Great looking bike. Be safe on the roads, lots of distracted drivers. If night driving, invest in decent lights. Quality lights aren't cheap but less expensive than an ER visit. I also wear one of those ugly orange safety vests, dorky but safety comes first. http://www.ma...

Radwagon Cargo bike

I just purchased the Radwagon Cargo bike. I'm satisfied with the power and build but it doesn't shift very well? Local bike shop worked on it but gears still slip while hill climbing. Anyone else have issues with their Radwagon? Might just be an issue with all ECargo bikes--very long tail, and long,...

Tipping? How much should I tip the local bike shop tech?

I always tip the local bike shop tech when he works on my ebike. 5 bucks for a flat tire and 10 for major repairs. I think I get better service and he's always ready to fix a flat on a moment's notice. Does anyone else tip or am I being overly generous? I'm sure those guys don't earn big bucks and I...

Evelo might have the parts you need. Good luck, same happened to my Evelo (tonaro) after only 2700 miles. It's in the shop getting repaired. I'm very disappointed by Evelo's quality. High pitch metalic sound, bike failed.

My Evelo (Tonaro) 500 watt 48 volt ebike failed tonight. It has 2700 miles and slightly over a year old. The bike was running well but I noticed strange vibrations from the crankshaft. This evening the motor assembly was very loud with a metallic grinding sound then it lost power. Any suggestions? I...

I don't see any downside to a system like this, used in addition to a mirror. Particularly with the advent of electric cars which are very quiet, and can sneak up on you, what's the harm in any tool which raises awareness of what's behind you? The fact that you haven't been hit yet may only mean th...

Re: Varia bike radar

I just use mirrors, and remain aware of my surroundings, riding defensively and assuming that no one ever sees me and/or in fact is actually out to get me. ;) Haven't been run off the road or hit yet; or any really super close calls that I couldn't get away from. As for lights...I don't see any pic...
