Re: Assembling a safe fast ebike

I think you'd need: 1) Hydrolic disk brakes (those with mineral oil fluid not the cheap mechanical cable operated ones ones). You need big ass disks to shed the heat and big pads. Almost right. Type of oil doesn’t change a thing to the performance of a caliper. We tend to prefer mineral oil for oth...

Re: New Barnyard Find (Ohm/BionX)

The guys at Bionix were good, but they did put their talent into complications more than performance. They were so scared that users would escape their hold on service and parts, that they managed to scare their clients away. They had a good system with quality components, and the best PAS software ...

Re: Middrive vs hub acceleration

Today, you need a motorcycle mid drive to beat the big hubs up to 40 mph. With a 3 kw mid drive your advantage does end at 25. Up mountain trails, your advantage does rely on how bad is the trail. If it is nice enough to speed, you are soon in the dust. Right, so with a 3 kw middrive would I be abl...

Re: I need help, as i dont have anywhere to ask, and no one to help me

The simulator is getting closer to real life observations, but still renders exaggerated torque to the lower kv motor. The Kv of an electric motor is not a gearing. The copper mass is still the same thus the amplitude of the magnetic field is very similar. The resistance is lower in the fast motor, ...

Please explain me how i drive this controller on 1450w? https://nexun.pl/czesci-do-e-bike/kt36- ... -30a-sinus
Somehow I can’t translate this link into a language that I can read. Yet, if the controller is available with bluetooth, you can set the program with you smartphone.

Re: Why the torque per amp discrepancy?

These results do raise the question: Why does a change in winding affect torque more in some cases than in others? Is it the controller multiplying phase current more for a low impedance motor? So when that doesn’t happen, is it only the controller trading amps for volts, or is there something else...

Re: Making new E-Bike, question about power

DD hub builds can be good climbers, especially now that big hubs are available in a large variety of windings. The problem is the power used for climbing, not for its efficiency but for the rider keeping himself from using it all the time. When you can feed 20+ kw in acceleration to a big DD hub, it...

Re: Why the torque per amp discrepancy?

What I meant, is that you are showing the simulation for a motor that is not available, in a winding that is more than double the speed, with a controller that is too small for it. That, is not realistic. Even with another similar motor, nobody would power a 26 lbs motor with a 20A controller. It w...

Looks more realistic to me: BED7D906-D360-4A36-ACF3-2B36818AF9D4.jpeg But which will be the cheaper, more widely available, and more legally inconspicuous controller and battery? All these factors can make a project more realistic. What I meant, is that you are showing the simulation for a motor th...

Re: I need help, as i dont have anywhere to ask, and no one to help me

Motor Kv is not a gearing. You should run your theory in the ebike simulator. Then you will see the loss of ´torque per Amp’ of a faster Kv, and for how long in acceleration the lower Kv has a (small) torque advantage. Screenshot_20200904-211509.png I dunno; it sure looks like wads more torque to m...

Re: Middrive vs hub acceleration

Don’t dream with 7 gears. By the time you will have shifted them all, the DD hub will be long gone. A powerful single gear mid drive can beat a big DD hub, up to a certain speed.

Re: I need help, as i dont have anywhere to ask, and no one to help me

About torque: watts are power, no matter the winding. A slower winding only has its efficiency zone at lower speed, making it more economical in acceleration for the time that you are not yet at efficient speed of a faster winding. But, since they both have the same weight of copper, they have the ...

Re: I need help, as i dont have anywhere to ask, and no one to help me

Speed and voltage relation is in motor winding. The motor KV (speed per volt) need to match the speed that you want for the voltage and tire size that you chose. Yet, keep in mind that faster does consume more. Faster acceleration, faster top speed, are the ennemies of long range. About torque: watt...

Re: Assembling a safe fast ebike

Easy to build speed, not so easy to make it safe. First is geometry. Most bicycles are not designed for speed. Geometry corrections are a must, to achieve proper handling and braking of a fast ebike. I disagree with the previous comment about bicycle components and tires not being up to the task, si...

120A is much more power than you want, if your goal is long range especially.

You need to buy the programming cable for this controller, to set it to the power that you want to feed.

fwiw I recently picked up a large Orange Patriot 7+ frame and it is big, way bigger than my old stumpjumper XL. Re: Anyone used the 1500w ebay hub motor?

Personally I prefer an axle channel to a drilled axle, because it is protected better in a crash. Both are a design flaw anyway. The wiring should exit the motor through a bushing between the axle and the bearing.
