Re: Lightweight City Hub Conversion shopping list

FYI, I've run both a Q100C and Q100H models and on a low-powered KT sine wave controller, they were both so quiet that they couldn't be heard over the tire noise above 5 MPH. The controller has a lot to do with motor noise. But that's neither here nor there as I'm sure the Bafang is a fine motor. Th...

Re: First build

But how far are you going to be able to go on a 10 Ah batt. at 30 mph? 10 miles? And he mentioned lot's of hills. In a perfect flatland, maybe a 30 mph, 20 mile range ebike could be built for $1000, but w/ hills, I don't think so. I could buy a motorbike or scooter for $1000 and ride it for years w/...

Re: The BEST connectors, period

For the main power wires, it's depends on the system Voltage. Under 50 Volts or so, simple 6 MM bullets work well. They are easy to install and replace.
For everything else, I prefer the Turnigy JST's w/ real silicone wires.
Or whatever else I have in my junk box:)

Re: 18S LiPo Wiring diagram

From what I've seen over the years, BMS systems don't seem to be a good fit for RC LiPoly. If they can be made to work, they don't seem to last. Some respond to this statement by saying a higher-end BMS is needed, but I'm dubious to this even. I would suggest you either break the string and charge w...

Re: First build

Not trying to dis-suade you, there are many reasons to build an ebike, but I would say, in most instances, having a reliable 30 mph avg. commuter that saves on gas may not be a sound one. I would suggest you look into a sm. motorbike for these reasons; 1) Gas prices are low, even in Calif. 2)A motor...

Re: Help! Best conversion kit for GF 29er Full-Suspension bike?

W/ the BIG wheels, "all-terrain" aspirations and high speed goals, you probably would be better served w/ a mid-drive system. Certainly, a 1500W hubbie and a "bottle battery" won't cut it. You would need a BIG hub motor w/ lot's of battery. You might want to research some of the ...

Re: 36V 250W controller replacement

Ok, those are an unusual bunch of colors. If it's a "factory built" bike, that probably isn't suprising. Perhaps that makes it difficult to follow the wires and see what they go to. You could do more research by looking at the wiring codes that most controllers have on their "vendor&q...

There is no "right one". Look thru the many on Ebay for the Rating (in Watts), the size and the features you need. What ever you buy, the colors of the power wires (power-main, phase and Halls probably will match), the others, maybe, maybe not. There is no real standards and basicly what y...

Re: Questions about my first build: a 24” kids e-mtb rear drive conversion

If you don't want to remove the frt. chain whl. to install the PAS disc, you can cut the plastic disc into 3 pieces and epoxy it on the inside of the gear. Then it's only a matter of either bending the supplied sensor bracket to position the sensor to the disc and epoxying it the the bottom bracket ...

Re: Questions about my first build: a 24” kids e-mtb rear drive conversion

Oh, I read your first post as a "10 year old bike", missed the "son" part. That list looks good for him, but I would get a 36V battery. You can still limit the speed w/ the controller and 36 Volts will give him room to grow into it. And I would still look into some quality tires ...

That's a pretty good list, but I'm not sure about the Aliex. batt. One of the good things about using BMS Battery is that are such a lg. vendor, that they have a lot of turn over on batt.s so they are fresh. Actually, A "water bottle" or "shark" style battery will fit on the frt....

Re: Requesting a BMS recommendation after fire: 8S LiPo

How not to over-discharge? Well, nothing changes on the dis-charge end when you change up the charging method except you are getting rid of the unreliable BMS Just calculate 3.65V times to number of cells and keep using the CA, but you should carry enough capacity that you don't go below 3.75 Cell. ...

I think something is amiss w/ the motor. I had an original, 2.4 Kg., 5 to 1 single compound geared MXUS motor and it was strong runner. At one point I raced it against a Q100H. Both systems were approx. the same; Both bikes had frt. mounted motors in 26" whl.s. Q100H (260) - Grin Infineon 20 Am...

Re: Shorten Hub Motor Axle with Sawzall

Get the correct thread die (probably a 1.25 M/M) and thread it on the axle first (w/ lot's of grease). Cut the axle as sharp and clean as possible and if it gets ragged, flat grind it w/ a hand held grinder. Then you can work the die off to clean the threads. Turn it back on carefully (start it by h...

.... my existing controller overheats after about 1k feet of climbing while the motor isn't even warm, so I'd like a higher amperage controller. Re: where to mount the battery on a fs mtb?

A lot of bikes have two sets of water bottle lugs, the second set on the frt. of the frt. down-tube. The batt. might look like it will be too close to the tire, but mine have never hit.
The other option is to install new screw-lugs. It takes a kit to do it, but any bicycle shop can do it.
