Re: DIY assembly kit for 18650 without spot welding/Solderin

I'm a first time battery builder and I'm actually in the process of making 6, 5s13p packs. I will have 3 sets of packs connected in series to make a 15s13p battery and then connect them in parallel to ultimately make it a 15s26p pack. This will operate on a 40amp controller. Do I really need to wor...

Re: DIY assembly kit for 18650 without spot welding/Solderin

Yes, this isn't a solution for the super high power people.... yet. You can't expect to build a 3p pack and pull 60A out of it using this kit. Obviously using more cells in parallel is always better. Not only does it make the cells last longer by reducing the individual load, but you also go farther...

Re: Another No Solder/Weld 18650 Build (Updated 03/09/2014)

Whether a pack like this is a personal build, or is being made for sale to the public, I like the idea of clear polycarbonate side panels. It's easy for the end-user to paint them, or apply any type of coating they desire... Agreed. Plus if it ever gets to that level, he can market them as "bu...

It's almost a shame to hide it. That's a beautiful looking way to mount the batteries. Maybe a clear polycarbonate case so you can see the batteries inside?

Re: DIY assembly kit for 18650 without spot welding/Solderin

I'm going to drill and counter sink posts so pack can be bolted together. On second thought, there seems to be the risk here that if clamping is performed in the middle from bolts like this, the caps around the outside can be forced up and loose contact, like a lever arm being pushed down on one si...

here's a dumb question.. while i understand that SS is required for spring action, the bolts are not, while i'm guessing it would be a lot more expensive, but if the bolts were made of copper, wouldn't that reduce that heat? btw i did a quick search for copper bolts ... http://www.ebay.com/bhp/copp...

Re: DIY assembly kit for 18650 without spot welding/Solderin

I've just begun playing around with custom copper bus bars. Hardest part is drilling the thin copper. I need to make a jig to do a stack of them clamped together. But I already see a performance boost.

Re: 36V and 48V 20AH Panasonic batteries $400 and $500 free

Another basic battery question. I don't care so much about going over 20 mph, although it would be nice to have that option. However, would the 48v give me more distance than the 36v if I kept them at the same speeds (e.g., pedaling at 18 mph)? Yes, because at 48V, if you go the same speed (and don...

I'm wondering if you could confirm which you had experience with? I will use due diligence and test first. Thanks for the warning. I just checked the bottle. 294 wicking grade. I call it wicked grade. I've had screws break the heads off after using it. At test would be the safe thing to do. I worry...

As far as I know, Panasonic hasn't provided data on max burst current for the ncr18650b cells. You might be able to find some user-data though.

36V and 48V 20AH Panasonic batteries $400 and $500 free ship

I built a few 36V 20Ah and 48V 20Ah batteries using my maker battery kits. Each uses Panasonic 18650B cells. The 48V battery has a 30A continuous BMS and the 36V battery has a 25A continuous BMS. No charger included, but you can get a good and inexpensive charger that is compatible for 36V or 48V he...

Re: DIY assembly kit for 18650 without spot welding/Solderin

Sure, I intend to, there's no reason you would be unable to. Will you solder it or just use the screws? The balance wires can be connected to the screw terminals. That's usually a 50mA max current flow, so no problem there. For the main discharge and charge wires coming from the BMS, you'd use the ...

Ah, sorry no, I can't give it away. Cost me over $1,000 to build the thing. Asking $500.

It's a 9C rear hubmotor, 25A controller and a 48V 10Ah NMC battery.
