Re: Design Space - Specialty E-bike frames

Sort of like Hal did? IMHO his bike frames are expensive, but not at all when compared to the larcenous prices you pay for a decent FS frame. As you start to spend more and more money on motors, controllers, and batteries spending $1k for a custom bike frame is well worth it IMHO. Because the thing...

Re: AC Lipo charger?

i think your gonna have trouble, particually if your talking about a 100+w charger with a built in ac adapter. ive been hoping to find something similar myself for a while, but they dont seem to exist. your best off doing something like what burtie suggested. you can also find pretty cheap laptop po...

you could look into some ski gear... basic no name stuff can be pretty cheap (even here in aus). you could even go the whole hog and get something like this... http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__YH4HNs4BGU/TOlkI6FAulI/AAAAAAAAABM/4teCkBXANfg/s1600/onesie+front+back.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__YH4HN...

Re: how best to parallel lipo packs.

well after some more thought ive come to a simple conclusion/decision (or as simple as possible...) and thats to use a 25 pin connector, similar to a VGA connector. someone with more knowhow will probably be able to name the exact type, I just found it in the local Jcar shop and thought it'd be near...

Re: how best to parallel lipo packs.

Making a single connector is a good idea. Just to note that 15/30/45 amp PowerPoles typically melt over time when used this way, Need to use 50 amp rated connectors which in PowerPoles is the 75 amp model. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9284 will these do? ill pr...

Re: how best to parallel lipo packs.

[ Perhaps i misunderstood you. It sounded like you were going to leave everything in serial, and then parallel all the leads. That 8s charger will do it, it will just be a hassle since you'll have to do twice the work as charging them as 2 10s groups. Make sure you use connectors that prevent you f...

Re: how best to parallel lipo packs.

It appears the best way to achieve an 84V PSU would be to put three 27VDC psu's in series. You can adjust them from 26-32v each. Two of these in series would also work quite well for up to a 15s lipo pack too. http://cgi.ebay.com/350W-27V-DC-13A-Power-Supply-Regulated-Switching-New-/190460576735?pt...

Re: how best to parallel lipo packs.

You could have got an iCharger 3010b+ 10S unit for well under $200 shipped from hobbyking... Oh well, maybe the cellpro is a good charger, nobody on here seems to be using it though. 8s on a 20S pack seems really inconvenient. With the 8S unit, you will have an awkward balancing regimen. You will n...

Re: how best to parallel lipo packs.

If you can't find an 84vdc psu, you could put a couple of 48V ones in series. Just make sure they have output adjustments that will go down to 42v. It probably wouldn't be too hard to build a simple one. Basically, all you need is an ac->dc converter (a rectifier, 4 diodes) and a step down transfor...

Re: how best to parallel lipo packs.

DAMIT so ive just spent $240 on a top end balance charger and it turns out I could just buy a budget charger and spend the $$ on a 84V power supply instead? I was expecting to make some mistakes that cost some $$, just not before actually starting the build!! oh well... what are people using ...

Re: how best to parallel lipo packs?

Your diagram is basically correct. Switches are problematic due to the currents involved (on the main lines). There are a lot of wires to manage. It is best to avoid reconfiguring the pack for charging. Causes mistakes. Plan for a charging solution that works with the pack "Normal". Some reconfigur...

how best to parallel lipo packs.

Im a bit new when it comes to this stuff, so I thought I'd ask for some advice on paralleling lipo's. In the long run, Im planing a 20s 4p pack made of 5ah 5s HK lipos. Initially, Im building one half this size for 10ah. My main question is in regards to the balance leads, obviosly, for parallel cha...

Re: Norco aline dh build - Shopping list advice/q's

Yeah, you may even consider the idea of more ah of 18s, rather than 20s. You need 10 ah for sure for a really practical range. You didn't mention torque plates. But those are pretty much still do it yourself. There is a machining thread in the for sale section. weirdly enogh after crunching the num...

Re: Norco aline dh build - Shopping list advice/q's

I built a 2008 A-Line. What are your speed and range expectations? That bike is a very good ride, but if you keep it as a dirt bike, it has alot of rolling and wind resistance. Better overbuild a bit from the start, to save on the upgrades that I had to do to make it meet my performance requirement...
