Re: mac geared hub motor and offroad cycling

Well, for one thing it's fun budget right? So have fun and stop worring about it. Toys break. If they don't you aren't playing very hard. Watch for overheating on the really steep uphills, and don't huck big. As I understand it, if you don't bust the gears jumping, the only real risk is overheating...

How did you wire 4 6s packs into 10s2p config?

I am confused.

Dan
ooops. you got me. 12s2p of course :) was a typo. had "10ah" in the back of my mind while typing *g*
so first 2 are put in serie and than two double-packs in parallel.

Re: mac geared hub motor and offroad cycling

The MAC motors now come with gray gears, which are stronger than what was installed in the past. They are wider as well. They started shipping with the stronger gears.. hm.. 6 months ago? no reports of broken gears yet either. So it's up to you. You can always buy replacement gears.. and they are n...

Re: mac geared hub motor and offroad cycling

i can't say anything about the version of the motor. is an old one? a new one? no idea. i didn't open it to take a look at the gears. i attached a picture of the motor and of the specifications. maybe that would help. how do i find out which version i have? http://trading.grafsport.eu/images/stories...

mac geared hub motor and offroad cycling

i read a lot here, and sometimes read, that mac/bmc motors (as well as all other geared motors) are not good for offroad cycling. i installed one in my full suspension bmc (not chinese bmc, but the swiss cycle company *ggg*). no i'm a bit afraid to drive offroad because the motor could be damaged. i...

wiring of powerlog 6s

having 4x 6s 5000mah zippys wired (corrected) 12s2p (was 10s2p) i'm watching cell voltage quite carefully. i attached 2x of those: http://www.upload-pictures.de/bild.php/1957,buzzerDKZTP.jpg now i want to LOG cell voltage, AMPS and WATTS as well, so i bought this beauty: http://www.upload-pictures.d...

Re: zero volt and cell count error ??

ok. now i swallowed the bitter pill, and ordered an overpriced ZIPPY Flightmax 5000mAh 4S1P 25C to repair my 6s pack (and probably any other pack i have that may have a damaged cell in the future). BUT: how do i securely seperate the packs from each other. the are glued together. will i damage the i...

Re: zero volt and cell count error ??

sorry. i still got one question: some of you mentioned that mixing different brands is a bad idea (different internal resistance, chemestry ...). when the pack died, i ordered some cheap replacement from ebay just to keep me going. this of course is no zippy. it's this one: http://www.upload-picture...

Re: zero volt and cell count error ??

nope. no 25c available at all. that's all they got. i have to look @european warehouse, because p&p + customs for one cell from hk would be an overkill. http://www.upload-pictures.de/bild.php/1943,zippyEX53M.jpg i found a 3s in US warehouse for $28.99 pls $9 p&p. omg. is it worth it? i'll gi...

Re: zero volt and cell count error ??

ok. i was expecting that answers.
point is: there now are some 5800 or even 8000mah packs. how long will i deal with 5000 then ??! ;)
i always goes up. i will see to find some 25c and repair the one pack. then upgrade to 2x 5800 ones as second parallel pack.

Re: zero volt and cell count error ??

one more question: i can't find any zippy 5000 25c that are not on back-order. would it mind if i replace the damaged cell with a 20c? oder better use a 30c one? or don't do that at all? discharging the pack never exceeds 5-10c, so a high c-rate is not necessary.

Re: zero volt and cell count error ??

yep. i looked like a loose wire. i really can't imagine how a cell really could reach ZERO volt. normally also my oldest nicd cells have some remaining voltage. so what ... i will keep the pack, as all other cells are in good shape. i will see to buy a 2s pack, so i have one cell to use, and one spa...

Re: zero volt and cell count error ??

did unsolder the cell, and measured again. still 0V and 2Ohm resistance. i think i will keep the other 5 perfect cells just in case on cell in another pack dies, and recycle the dead one. any other suggestions? i think i can't buy a single cell like the one in my pack to revive the whole pack, can i?

Re: zero volt and cell count error ??

thanks dogman. did as you wrote. i was just in the garage opening it the way to told me, as you wrote the post :) was quite easy. did some strange measuring: 0.0006V (0.6mV) cell voltage. how can that be? the cell looks totally ok. no bloating, nothing. http://www.upload-pictures.de/bild.php/1934,ce...

zero volt and cell count error ??

i ignored (or missinterpretated) the low voltage alarm and ended up with one "dead" cell in one of my 6s zippy packs. i connected the pack to several chargers, and all of them showed 5s packs. then i tried to charge them (0.1A only) to see what happens. of course the pack was put in a lipo...

that's cute :) it looks great, but i'm 110% sure that it will not handle 22A constant current *ggg*
i'm also looking for a socket that can be mounted/fixed in the bag. something round, with a sleeve nut (if that's the right term)

Re: Parallel Charging Harness, board or charger?

i also have to charge 4x 6s lipos with 5000mah. i have several chargers, but am to lazy to reconnect those lipos twice for charging all four of them. so i bought a quattro charger (eg @hobbyking <$100). they are quite cheap. i also bought 4 balance lead extensions so it's easier to connect the batte...

if looking for a frame, i would also suggest looking for a frame with STEEL dropouts.
i'm looking for a downhill frame, but can't find any. all of them i've seen so far have a very "compact" frame to better withstand the forces i guess.
